CAST Color Monsters

Students in Ms. Smith’s first grade class discussed their feelings during morning circle time and connected each feeling to a different color as part of an arts integration lesson. They then read “Color Monster” and designed their own color monster to represent how they are feeling. Students are working on being proactive by regulating their feelings!

CAST’s Modern Mathematical Masterpieces

Fourth graders in Mrs. Church’s hybrid class learned about the abstract artist Piet Mondrian as they reviewed how to find the perimeter and area of quadrilaterals. Mondrian is famous for using geometric figures and primary colors in his art. Students were tasked to create their own piece of Mondrian-inspired artwork using only squares and rectangles with a perimeter or area of 20, then added primary colors of their choosing.

Congratulations to St. Lucie West K-8’s 2020-2021 Track Team! Overall, the girls’ team finished 3rd place and the boys’ team finished 2nd place. We are very proud of each students’ determination and excellent sportsmanship! JAWSOME JOB SHARKS!

Scaled Spaghetti Structures at CAST

Ms. Claudio’s seventh graders at CAST examined different styles of architecture and discussed the pros and cons and how math is used in architecture. Students then designed and built their own structure to scale using spaghetti noodles, marshmallows and tape. Their goal was to build the tallest structure that best resembled their scale drawing.

CAST Connection to Backus

Ms. Denman’s 4th grade class at CAST has been learning about the local history of St. Lucie County. Students learned about landscape artists A.E. Backus and The Highwaymen. To wrap up the unit, the students had an opportunity to paint En Plein Air. A student shared her new learning with family and discovered her great-grandmother was the model for one of Backus’ portraits!

WEST Prep PBIS Gets a New Look

The Fort Pierce Westwood Academy: The WEST Prep Magnet PBIS Team created a PBIS T-shirt and Logo Contest to allow students to showcase their artistic and design talents. There were 13 students who submitted artwork and the judges had a challenge to choose the one to represent the T-shirt for the 21-22 school year. The Winners of the contest are: 2nd Place tie to Rayna Duzart (Grade 12) and Bella Gentry (Grade 9). SLPS Celebrates the Class of 2021

Congratulations to the Class of 2021!   Last week, Superintendent Gent, joined by Board Members, celebrated the class of 2021 at Lawnwood Stadium. PSL Rotary Club Partners with Palm Pointe

Nancy Oldham & Larry Breault, members of the Port St. Lucie Sunset Rotary Club, brought copies of the US Constitution for 7th Grade Civic students. Mrs. Lulkin and Mrs. Wright received them along with Mrs. Newsome. CAST Student Interviews Fort Pierce Mayor

CAST’s Virtual Media Arts Students used their time outside the classroom to their advantage this past month as students learned to film Interview segments with friends, neighbors, and family members. One student, Sterling Prettelt, did an exceptional job in her interview and even got Fort Pierce Mayor Linda Hudson to join her for an Interview! Passion for Art at Oak Hammock K-8

Oak Hammock K-8 would like to congratulate Derick Calero for having his artwork chosen and displayed in the office of The Florida House of State Representatives, State Representative, Dana Trabulsy, District 84, at The Capital in Tallahassee. Pharmacy Technician Pre-Apprentices Connected with IRSC’s Apprenticeship

Students from Mrs. Julie-Anne JnPaul’s Pharmacy Technician program at Fort Pierce Westwood Academy: The WEST Prep Magnet, attended a virtual session with Indian River State College (IRSC).  Dr. Jessica Fulton from IRSC spoke with the graduating seniors regarding opportunities for them to continue on their academic-career path as Pharmacy Technicians.  This session included a presentation, question and answer segment, and students were able to leave the session with knowledge and plans for their future!
