SLWCHS HOSA-Making Christmas Bright 2017

SLWCHS HOSA-Making Christmas Bright 2017

During the months of November and December, HOSA invited the faculty, staff, and students of SLWCHS to participate in a toy drive for the children on the caseload of Devereux Community Based Care of Okeechobee and the Treasure Coast.  These children are in protective custody due to unfortunate circumstances in their own homes.  They are often placed with foster families or relatives during this difficult time.

Eagle faculty, staff and students banded together and collected more than 175 gifts for these special children.  Members of our HOSA chapter and Allied Health classes helped load Devereux’s ‘sleigh’ last week.  Merry Christmas to all!

Governor Scott Honors Local Teacher with Shine Award

Governor Scott Honors Local Teacher with Shine Award

C.A. Moore Instructor Nardi Routten stood before the Florida Cabinet this week with six other Florida educators of distinction as Governor Rick Scott recognized them with the Shine Award. This prestigious award is presented to teachers and administrators in Florida who make significant contributions to the field of education.

According to a press release issued from the Florida Department of Education, Governor Rick Scott said, “I am proud to present these outstanding educators with the Governor’s Shine Award and thank them for their commitment to ensuring students reach their full potential. The educators honored today represent the thousands of great teachers around the state who are dedicated to preparing students for college and a future career.”

Routten’s fourth graders couldn’t agree more.  Principal Ucola Barrett-Baxter said the students are eager to get to class as soon as they arrive on campus.  “Each day is a new adventure – they just can’t wait to discover what Mrs. Routten has planned for them to solve, to explore, or to create.  Her classroom is very collaborative in nature with a rigorous pace, challenging work, can-do culture, and supportive infrastructure.”

Nardi Routten is a 20-year veteran educator and the 2015 Milken Educator Award winner.  She is also a member of the Teacher Leader Fellowship 2016, member of Leadership Florida, Education Class II and is currently working on her second Master’s degree in Educational Leadership.
