Performance Based Academy Creative Science Lab

Mrs. Menezes’s Science students at Performance Based Academy recently participated in a lab project that combined their science knowledge and creative skills. The goal of the project was to reinforce their understanding of the diversity of Florida’s Everglades, and how different animal species adapt to different ecosystems. Students enjoyed the hands-on activity and were able to incorporate their creative and imaginative skills to create clay creatures that inhabit the Everglades. Perfect Score on the FSA at Mariposa Elementary

At Mariposa Elementary, fourth grader Jesse Hindman received a perfect score on his third grade math FSA and received a certificate from the Governor for his hard work! People’s Garden Ribbon Cutting Celebration

January 16, 2025, marked a momentous occasion in Fort Pierce as community members, partners, and volunteers gathered for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the People’s Garden. The event celebrated the culmination of hard work and dedication that brought this wonderful project to fruition. The garden, a testament to community collaboration, drew smiles and enthusiasm from attendees as they officially opened this new green space. Penny Scialdo of SLW Centennial Awarded the Navigator Award

The Treasure Coast Inter-Agency Transition Council gives the Navigation Award to five people from the four-county area.  It is given to those we are leading the way by navigating transition services for supporting the successful transition of persons with disabilities from school to post-graduation.  Penny Scialdo, School-Based ESE Specialist, has always been a proponent of seamless, positive transition for her students.  We appreciate all she has done for the students in St. Lucie Public Schools. A big congratulations to Penny for her outstanding service!    

Pennies for Pasta at Gaines Academy

Students at Gaines Academy generously donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Pennies for Pasta campaign. We surpassed our school goal of $2,000 with a grand total of $2,700 being donated to help local blood cancer patients with their treatments and hopefully find a cure. Ms. Lenaiah Wood’s second grade class collected the most donations and were treated to a delicious luncheon by Olive Garden. Pen Pals Make Great Mentors at Mariposa Elementary

At Mariposa Elementary, Mrs. Michelle Smith’s 2nd grade class teamed up with Mrs. Theresa Delancy’s 3rd grade class for writing!  Every 2nd grader has a 3rd grade pen pal who acts as a writing mentor.  After reading the story The Plump and Perky Turkey, students were asked to imagine that they were a turkey! Together with their pen pals, students had to come up with reasons as to why the turkey should not be eaten on Thanksgiving! Tahlia Sugrim and Abigail Santiago are showing their hard work. Pen Pals at Morningside

Mrs. William’s 5th-grade class at Morningside Elementary is writing to their pen pals! A student’s grandmother is a teacher in another county, and she teaches a younger grade. Through this experience, students are learning about someone who may be different than them but finding ways to share commonality through likes, dislikes, dreams, and fears. Today, students are reading their first letter and writing back. Pretty cool!

Peacock Dental Makes Donation

Peacock Dental in St. Lucie West donated 1,000 toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste to support St. Lucie Public Schools’ students experiencing homelessness. The support came after the local business heard about the McKinney Vento program and wanted to be able to provide something for students in our area. St. Lucie Public Schools appreciates this partnership!  

Peachy Time at Lakewood Park Elementary

Mr. Morales, a local peach farmer, and Sandy White, representative from Titan Farms located in South Carolina, partner in marketing Florida grown peaches, and made their first presentation to a first grade audience at Lakewood Park Elementary.  The first graders were excited to learn how the peaches grow and created pictures to show how Florida peaches look.  As a Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program school, students were able to sample some of the peaches grown on the farm Mr. Morales operates in St. Lucie County, just a few miles away from Lakewood Park Elementary. What a yummy presentation!

Peace Poster Winners from Lincoln Park Academy

Ms. Duran’s middle school students from Lincoln Park Academy participated in the Lion’s International Peace Poster Contest. The winners were selected by the Lion’s Club of Fort Pierce. First place was awarded to Zareef Mohammed (7th).  Second place was awarded to Zoey Thomaselli (8th).  Third place was awarded to Zoya Mukhamedov (8th).  Kaliyana Limear (8th) was selected as Honorable Mention.  Zareef Mohammed’s poster will advance to represent Lincoln Park Academy in the International Peace Poster Contest. First, second, and third place winners were selected by local artist, Debi Crouse. First place was awarded to Kiera Chapman-Martinez (7th). Second place was awarded to Brittney Wolfe (8th). Third place resulted in a tie between Bianca Arcadipane (7th) and Natali Gallegos (6th). Kiera Chapman-Martinez’s poster will advance to represent Lincoln Park Academy in the Peace Poster Contest. PBPA Senior Shantal Mitchell Proud Recipient of Essay Contest Award

Principal Jamison is proud to announce that Senior Shantal Mitchell of Performance Based Preparatory Academy placed first in the High School Division of the Dr. Samuel S. Gaines Essay Contest. Shantal aspires to attend Florida A&M University in the fall, and this accolade will will serve as a positive addition to her resume.

PBPA Press-Starting a Tradition

Performance Based Preparatory Academy has created a student-led newspaper. The PBPA Press released its first issue this past October and the students are scheduled to release one issue per quarter. All articles and topics are student-generated. October’s articles ranged from school updates, Hispanic Heritage Month, human trafficking, for or against masks, dealing with anxiety, and being a teen parent. PBPA Hosts Community Connection Luncheon

Community members attended PBPA’s first Community Connection Luncheon on Oct. 8th.  Students were able to hear success stories and interact with different community members. They were also able to learn about some interests that our community members have and how those interests helped them experience success in their careers.

PBIS Winter Dance at REE a Cool Event!

REE’s PBIS committee hosted a Winter Dance this past month! Students paid 20 Otter Bucks to attend the dance during their resource time. Dancing and fun overflowed as students jammed to the DJ and enjoyed being able to hang out with their friends. Our fabulous PTO decorated and gave out candy. An event sure to be held again and again.

PBIS Twin Day held at Palm Pointe

Students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently had a P.B.I.S (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) event. Students were able to turn in five rocket fuel tickets that they had earned for positive behavior and dress up as a twin for Twin Day. Students were very excited for this event and many students participated. Pictured is Dean Matthew Kovach and first grader Kyle May. This is Kyle’s second year dressing up as a twin with the dean. Way to go Kyle!
