Floresta celebrated October’s early release with our theme of Ohana by welcoming families to our first round of conferences. Teachers discussed student performance and taught families the impact of attendance. More than 200 families leveraged this opportunity to engage.
On October 20th, 7 of our choir students traveled to the University of Miami to perform in the Frost School of Music Honor Choir! They sang with 300 other high school students from around the state. These students had the privilege of working with world-renowned conductor Jake Runestad. Titan Born, Titan Bred!
Sixth-grade students were honored to have one of their own teachers, a veteran herself, talk with students about being a veteran and what it means. Thank you, Ms. Velazquez for your service! In addition, Ms. Seng and Mr. Watkins had their students write Thank-you notes after learning what it means to be a veteran. Dr. Monroe and Ms. Sexton were honored to deliver the notes to local veterans and extend our gratitude for their service. It was truly an honor to celebrate our veterans!

Village Green Elementary’s third graders held their annual Veterans Day Musical on Thursday, 11/9. Music teacher, Dr. Cynthia Reynolds, did a fantastic job preparing the kids for this presentation that honored Veterans, their families, and their friends. It was enjoyed by all!
Students in Mrs. Brookes fifth grade science class at Fairlawn Elementary school participate in a gallery walk to gather information about planets as a culminating event to small group research completed in class. Students gained valuable information about each of the planets in an engaging manner.
Our Centennial seniors pledged to graduate on Thursday, November 9, at the Flight of the Eagle Senior Pinning Ceremony. Thank you to Kyle Greene, Centennial alum, for being the guest speaker. Students at Lawnwood Elementary conducted silly science experiments with candy corn! Classes used various liquids to predict and watch what happened. Students recorded their results and enjoyed their tasty treat afterward.
Mrs. Quiles’ class learned about classifying animals into major groups (mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, arthropods, vertebrates, and invertebrates) according to their physical characteristics and behaviors.
Mosaic Digital Academy students in grades K-5 learned all about manatees at the Manatee Observation and Education Center in Fort Pierce. The outdoor classroom provided students with an in-depth look into the lives of these marine mammals, an important part of Florida’s diverse aquatic ecosystems. Hands-on exploration of the tide pool touch tank gave students the opportunity to come face to face with sea urchins, sea cucumbers, hermit crabs, and more! Jovil Wharton of Drug Free St. Lucie and Friday Night Done Right showed Southern Oaks a glowing, good time at the fall Glow Dance. On October 31st, Southern Oaks Middle School’s gymnasium glowed as students rushed in with excitement for their PBIS celebration. Students wore glow-in-the-dark shirts to add ambient lighting as they showed off their best dance moves. Pizza, refreshments, and a variety of snacks were available for purchase to fund the PBIS bank. The Treasure Coast High School Future Business Leaders of America had an awesome day in the sun on Saturday, October 28th at Jensen Beach. ‘Pandemonium’ Steel Band represented St. Lucie Public Schools at the Fall Fun Fest on Saturday, October 28th held at the Mid-Florida Event Center. Members of the band were joined by recent alumni who are current music majors. They played various genres ranging from Caribbean, Blues, Swing, Latin, and Funk. Thank you to The Port Saint Lucie Downtown Lions Club for their generous donation which served to support our students traveling to New York City in April 2024.
During Bullying Prevention Month, the Cafeteria and Maintenance staff Leveled Up and showed their support for the “Be a Buddy, Not a Bully” initiative by showing how colorful friendship can be. The colors are a representation of how you can be surrounded by people who are different while realizing the value that each one brings to the pack. In their different roles of creating nutritious meals and providing a clean and safe environment, they help the students Level Up Learning, Level Up Success!
With over 5,000 employees, St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) was recognized as one of St. Lucie County’s Best Places to Work. This is the seventh year in a row that the School District has received this honor in the “Extra Large Employer” (over 500 employees) category. 3rd Graders enjoyed some independent reading time using finger flashlights to read in the dark. Their book bins are filled with a variety of texts. They loved that the light added even more excitement to their reading! #MSEshinesBRIGHT
Lawnwood Leopards participated in a Vocabulary Parade! This vocabulary parade was inspired by a book called Miss Alaineus. The purpose of the parade is to help students learn interesting words and share their meanings and connections with others. This K-5 vocabulary parade was a hit! GO LEOPARDS!
