SLPS Career Fair

The South County Career Fair was held on February 27th at the MIDFLorida Event Center.  Approximately 400 juniors and seniors from Mosaic Digital Academy, Port St. Lucie High, SLW Centennial, and Treasure Coast High were in attendance.  Students were able to meet and chat with company representatives, ask questions about their company and careers, interview, and possibly land internships.  The goal was to expose students to the companies and businesses in St. Lucie County, provide them with the opportunity to learn and explore specific industries, gain the confidence needed to approach adults and start conversations, interview, and practice soft skills.  The … Read More

Village Green Steps Up

Students are encouraged to build healthy habits at Village Green Elementary School! Once a week during their PE class they are given pedometers to track their steps. Students are provided information on the positive health benefits of physical activity. The challenge is to increase their steps every week in order to maintain good overall health. Students have enjoyed monitoring their steps and activity and tracking their progress. They have also been doing a wonderful job motivating each other to achieve their health and activity goals!

Southern Oaks Students Bring Black History to Life with Live Wax Museum

On February 27th, sixth-grade students at Southern Oaks Middle School made their contribution to the school’s many Black History Month events. Students hosted a Black History Month wax museum impersonation experience unlike any other. Sixth graders were visibly transformed into Rosa Parks, Jackie Robinson, Tina Turner, and even Beyonce from head to toe. One parent added she shopped for clothing and paraphernalia after studying the pictures of Rosa Parks. Southern Oaks Middle School Ventures into STEAM and Robotics

Southern Oaks Middle School enters the field of STEAM and robotics in January. The school began its first STEAM and robotics club this year. Spearheaded by ESE teacher, Maria Benjamin, the afterschool club meets twice weekly and teaches high-tech design of robots and drones. Benjamin who has had a strong desire to start the club for years, finally decided that this was the year. Oak Hammock K8 Students Wins at the County Regional STEM Fair

Congratulations to OHK8 students for winning at the County’s Regional STEM Fair. Micah Prakash, a 7th-grade student, won 2nd place in Intelligent Machines with “Pen vs Pixel. Lydia Bailey, an 8th-grade student won 2nd place in Environmental Science with “Recycled Paper.” The OHK8 family is extremely proud of their accomplishment. Celebrating Black History Month at Village Green

Mrs. Christopher, from Village Green Elementary School, celebrated Black History Month with students during their lunchtime with a fun game of Black History Trivia. Students in grades Kindergarten through fifth were able to participate and they had a great time learning fun and interesting facts about significant figures and events throughout history. Thank you to Mrs. Christopher for entertaining and educating our students and growing an inclusive and accepting community here at Village Green.

Turn Up the Volume at Bayshore

Students in Mrs. Maxwell’s math class “turned up the volume!” With a partner and a ruler, they measured the length, width, and depth of rectangular prisms in order to calculate the volume. This hands-on activity gave them not only practice with calculating volume, but also sharpened their ruler skills!

SLWCHS Culinary Art Students Rank Highest in St. Lucie County and 3rd Overall in the State

This weekend at the Rosen Plaza in Orlando, Florida our Culinary arts students had the opportunity to compete at the 23rd annual Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association, Educational Foundation, state high school competition. Centennial walked away with all of our students winning an award, a placement medal, and multiple scholarships to pursue their hospitality industry careers. Abigail Roth placed fifth in the state with one of the fastest times, ending with a stunning fruit carving representing her talent. Southern Oaks Middle School Hosts Black History Month Art Gallery

Southern Oaks Middle School celebrated February’s Black History Month encompassing the 2024 theme, African Americans and the Arts, a concord with the theme established by The Association for the Study of African American Life and History. For February, students and staff were invited to contribute art they owned or created. Students and staff of all races contributed work celebrating Black history and culture. The museum curator and Media Specialist, Kaitlyn Kloser, displayed the art as a walkthrough of history to modern-day Black life. Students and staff toured on their own all month long. Morningside OMers are going to States

Morningside Elementary is advancing to the state competition. On Saturday, four teams from MSE competed at the Odyssey of the Mind regional competition. Odyssey of the Mind is an international problem-solving, competition where students learn to work together and solve problems using creativity. Two teams won first place and will be advancing to states. Although our primary team is not competitive, their performance earned them a position at states as well. Lawnwood Elementary Students are Learning about Mae Jemison

Lawnwood Leopards are celebrating Black History Month.  Ms. Frazier’s VPK students read books and completed art projects in honor of Mae Jemison.  Mae Jemison is an American engineer, physician, and former NASA astronaut. She became the first African American woman to travel into space when she served as a mission specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour in 1992. Jemison joined NASA’s astronaut corps in 1987 and was selected to serve for the STS-47 mission, during which the Endeavour orbited the Earth for nearly eight days on September 12–20, 1992.    

Fort Pierce Westwood Students Attend Career Fair at Fort Pierce Yacht Club

Students from Fort Pierce Westwood Academy attended the Chart Your Course Maritime and Marine Career Expo at the Fort Pierce Yacht Club on Thursday, February 22nd. Students learned about a variety of career opportunities in Fort Pierce and the Treasure Coast, highlighted by hands-on activities, panel discussions, and demonstrations from a variety of local businesses and the U.S. Coast Guard. Lots of useful job and career expectations and opportunities were shared with all.

36th Annual St. Lucie County Regional STEM Fair and Award Ceremony

On February 16th, 2024, 180 students competed in the 36th annual St. Lucie County Regional STEM fair at Indian River State College. These grade 6-12 students represented 21 schools in St. Lucie County. The competition was split into two divisions, junior and senior, with 13 categories in each division. Students were interviewed by community judges from organizations such as IRSC, USDA, City of Port St. Lucie, UF/IFAS and many more.
