Each year the Palm Pointe Elementary Physical Education Department runs a yearly fund-raising campaign for the American Heart Association.  The Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser raised $5,200 this year.  Students have been learning healthy heart habits and how the heart works.  The P.E. The Girls Basketball team of St. Lucie West Centennial hosted St. Cloud High School in their Regional Semifinal game. The team emerged victorious, advancing to the Regional Final. This achievement marks a significant milestone in what has been a fantastic season for the Girls, under the dedicated guidance of Coach Stewart, Coach Tolbert, and Coach Wetherall. Their hard work and determination have paid off, making them one of only eight Girls Basketball teams left in the state. Forest Grove Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society students took time out of their Winter Break to visit a local Nursing Home. SLW Centennial forensic science students delved into learning about blood typing through an engaging and interactive lab assignment. This hands-on experience was based on a real crime story from the 1930s, providing a historical context that enriched the learning process. The assignment began with students learning about the crime, and gaining insights into the investigative techniques of the era. They then moved on to the practical component, where they used simulated materials to test the blood types of the crime victims. St. Lucie Public Schools’ Secondary Programs had the chance to take 46 amazingly wonderful, talented, and respectful juniors to tour and explore Florida International University. These 46 juniors were from all of our 6 comprehensive high schools. It was a beautiful day on a beautiful campus. It was also the first time many of these students had been on a university campus. Visiting a college campus is very important for these juniors as most college applications will open on August 1st. Forest Grove Middle School hosted their 8th-Grade Pinning Ceremony, celebrating the upcoming end of their middle school journey and welcoming the bright futures our 8th-graders will experience as high school students. We would also like to give a special thank you to our guest speaker, Westwood Academy’s Assistant Principal Ms. Smith. Ms. Smith shared an inspirational message to our 8th-grade students as they prepare for their transition to becoming high school students. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee was proudly performed by the Fort Pierce Central Theatre Department and directed by Mrs. Tiffany Gardner. This award-winning musical comedy was a delightful mix of humor, heart, and unexpected twists. The show follows six quirky middle-schoolers as they compete in the cutthroat but hilarious Putnam County Spelling Bee, guided by equally eccentric adults. Fort Pierce Central Chorus joined the Lincoln Park Academy Chorus on Sunday, February 13th at 3:00 in the afternoon in a collaborative performance at the First United Methodist Church of Fort Pierce. Mariposa science night was a stellar success, as guests explored the wonders of the night sky and read books with flashlights. Attendees had the chance to look through telescopes, including the Dobsonian telescope, a design influenced by Isaac Newton’s early work. Dr. Jacqueline Venzen and Dr. Thomas Gay facilitated another learning lab for fifth-grade students at Village Green Environmental Studies School.   Students have been learning about physical properties, mixtures, solutions, substances, magnetism, and other matter-related science topics.
