On Monday October 9th, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguars went up against the Space Coast Vipers. To kick off the game, the Jaguar Color Guard presented the Colors with Damilola Jolugan and Joleen Kalonaski serving as flag bearers and Hayley Pollard and Marco Narder serving as guards.
On Tuesday, October 4, The National Theatre for Children came to our school and performed for our K-2 students. They performed an energy show sponsored by FPL titled Captain Wattage. Captain Wattage solved the mystery about who was stealing energy. (It was Vivica Voltage!) The boys and girls (and teachers) loved it!
Fort Pierce Westwood Veterinary students were at the St. Lucie International Airport on October 5th to support in the arrival of a plane from Puerto Rico carrying animals in need of homes and care. The veterinary students along with their teacher, Whitney Uribe, helped to unload the animals from the plane, unload them from their carriers for examination, as well as support the veterinarian with their examinations. That support included completing paperwork, getting the medication requested by the vet ready, as well as the vaccines as requested by the vet. Allapattah Flats hosted its annual PBIS BUS DRIVER LUNCHEON on Friday, September 29, 2017. APFK8 served their drivers with great enthusiasm and appreciation for all that they do every day to keep their Gators safe! The drivers enjoyed a special drawing and a delicious lunch along with a lot of laughter and fun! We truly appreciate our APFK8 drivers and supervisors!
John Parker, famous BMX rider, visited White City Elementary. During his presentation, he discussed the spokes of good character, motion, and speed. It was a fun, energizing, and thrilling presentation.
Fort Pierce Westwood’s Tuesday Leadership Club (TLC) met for their first 2017/18 service project. TLC members stuffed 50 donated backpacks with school supplies for Panther students in need. TLC is a student driven group which develops positive leadership and characteristics to enhance themselves, their school and their community at large. The students involved with this service project are Trey Doilvien, Kenneshia Murriel, Matilde Mendez, Vanessa Vazquez, Kristina Thomas, Alvin Paschal, and Pharah St. Louis. Happy Fall! Students in Melanie Francisco’s kindergarten class loved working on a unit about apples. They measured, experimented, and used their five senses to investigate them. Jackson Mallonee, Elijah Josheph, Everette Robinson, and Tabitha Smith agreed that the best part of the unit was making homemade applesauce.
Stephen Siller: Tunnel to Towers Run The Tunnel to Towers run is an event created two years after the occurrence of 9/11. The event symbolizes Stephen Siller’s final footsteps running in full firefighting gear from the foot of the Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers. It pays homage to the 343 FDNY firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers, and thousands of civilians who lost their lives on the ill-fated day of September 11, 2001. We were extremely honored to help Private First Class Kimberly Foulk, United States Army, to surprise her children after being deployed for the past seven months. Her children were in class when they were called to the office. The custodial staff at Lakewood Park Elementary were treated to a lunch and dessert for all of their hard work. Not only do they care for the school on a daily basis, but they also supported the school and residents when the school was used as a shelter for Hurricane Irma. Thank you for all the hard work!

Mariposa’s reading night at Barnes and Noble was a huge success. Mrs. Brie Lamb read Tacky the Penguin to the students and Mr. R. Craig Logue also read a story. Over the summer, Mrs. Nemeth, 1st grade teacher, received five tablets for her classroom through a Donors Choose proposal. Seesaw is a student-driven digital portfolio that empowers students to independently document what they are learning at school. Students can use photos, videos, drawings, text notes, links, and the recorder to show what they know. After publishing a piece about Fall, students were able to take a picture of their work and record themselves reading it. Families also have the ability to see their child’s work through the Seesaw app and respond with comments and likes.
