Northport K-8 middle school girls are champion basketball players! The girls, coached by teacher Stephanie Soomar, recently played their final game. Every player contributed and the girls played their hearts out to bring home the District victory.

Northport K-8 participated in the 2019 Relay For Life recently held at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center this month. Northport is happy to provide community service and to receive the lessons that the students learn about cancer, care, kindness, and empathy. Northport’s team won Best in Show for the Lip Sync contest and participated in the Luminaria Walk and the Road to Recovery. We are so thankful for our entire Relay For Life team for their participation!

Fort Pierce Westwood High School’s Criminal Justice students toured the St. Lucie County Emergency Operations Center. This tour was hosted by St. Lucie County officials and the St. Lucie County Human Resources Department. Students gained insightful information on potential careers and how to utilize their industry certification starting this summer! Students are excited and looking forward to the many opportunities right here in St. Lucie County. .

FPCHS Medical Academy students were shining at the HOSA State Competition in Orlando, FL. On Wednesday March 28, 2019, Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion attended its 25th Annual Awards Ceremony. Guests from veteran associations collaborated with school staff and presented awards to deserving cadets. Cadets received awards for academic achievement, leadership qualities, and patriotism. Cadets were proud to receive recognition for their hard work. Starting the ceremony was the Color Guard commanded by Cadet Command Sergeant Major Victoria Diaz, accompanied by Cadet Major Joleen Kalinowski, Cadet 1st Lieutenant Lila Meade, and Cadet Sergeant Alex Nangle. Southport’s cafeteria staff delivered a healthy treat to Mrs. Sharon Dudash’s students along with a nutritious lesson on how plants grow. After finishing up a project on seeds in their class, Cafeteria Manager Eileen Kielbasa presented a lesson on how plants grow using Florida grown vegetables from the Farm to School initiative. The students got to see the seeds inside the vegetables, and enjoyed a healthy snack later in the afternoon. On Friday, March 29th, Palm Pointe fourth graders participated in an exciting day of writing e”lab” oration stations.  Students had an opportunity to travel to different stations and refine their writing through various mini-lessons and practice.  They were thrilled to show what they know after working hard all year on the writing process.  Towards the end of the day, students got to participate in a balloon drop that included balloons with positive messages to let them know they can do it.  Students will take their FSA Writing Assessment on Tuesday, April 2nd.  

In celebration of Music in Our Schools Month, Mr. Chad Guess took a group of Mariposa students to the All County Chorus which was held at Lincoln Park Academy.  Radley Yackamouih, Alexis Whyms, Karina Arocho, Nathalie Carrion, Szofi Viskolcz, and Celeste Swanson sang with students from other St. Lucie Public Schools during the annual All County Chorus event.

FPCHS art students were honored by the 2019 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.  FPCHS student Noah Weston won an Honorable Mention for his Portfolio piece, Prize Chicken.  Student Justin Brunelle won the prestigious Gold Key Award from Scholastic for his photograph, Friend in the Dark.  Congrats to these two talented art students!

SLWCHS Dance Team competed in the solo/ensemble competition. Congratulations! The Early Learning Coalition of St. Lucie County is sponsoring their annual Family Fun Fair!  This event is free and will take place on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Lawnwood Stadium.  For more information, see the flier above.

Students at Village Green Environmental Studies School received a visit from WPBF News Channel 25’s Meteorologist Britley Ritz.  5th grade students showed Ms. Ritz one of the school’s weather stations and explained how it tracks winds, precipitation, and barometric pressure.  

Students from Ms. Nelson’s class help plant seeds for our very first Tower Garden!  A Tower Garden is a general vertical hydroponic growing system, which require less space and water to grow the plants than traditional systems.

Oh what a lucky day it was at Northport K-8 School! The Chief Meteorologist for WPTV, Channel 5, Steve Weagle visited to not only give students an engaging lesson on weather forecasting, but he also participated in the Wearing of the Green in the media center. Northport first and second graders listened intently about the use of radar to find rain and learned about how rain buckets are used to measure the amount of precipitation. Northport K-8 sixth grade drama students with the assistance of several eighth graders, performed four short plays for the entire kindergarten group recently in the Northport Black Box theater. Under the direction of drama coach, Allison Barajas, students performed “The Frog Prince,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “The Princess and the Pea,” and “Cinderella.” It was a wonderful and heartwarming adventure into beginning theater appreciation. The sixth graders were professional and the kindergartners learned an appreciation for theater etiquette.
