A tremendous honor was recently bestowed on our very own Fort Pierce Westwood High School Principal Mr. Joseph Lezeau. Last week during the high school’s JROTC Awards Ceremony, an impressive number of cadets earned awards for high academic accomplishments and were recognized for their citizenship, leadership, and community service.  At the close of the ceremony, CSM Frederico Dottin presented Mr. Lezeau with the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service. Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie’s eighth grade science teacher, Aaron Barnes, was just selected to represent CAST at Texas A & M University’s G-Camp through their College of Geosciences. The acceptance into this program is an extreme honor as only 50 teachers in the United States are chosen for this exciting opportunity! G-Camp is a 20-day field camp for teachers that provides first-hand experience with the principles of geology in the field. A new partnership has been formed between Lincoln Park Academy and The Concetta Viggiano Parry Foundation, a non-profit organization located in Fort Pierce, focused on philanthropy, volunteerism, and grant-making.   This foundation has graciously offered to donate $10,000 toward establishing Lincoln Park Academy’s first-ever wrestling team!  The donation will help purchase the team’s initial uniforms and equipment for the students.  In addition, these funds will support the acquisition of safety equipment and assist with the logistical support related to participation in meets and competitions.  Dr. Paul Gavoni, a member of the foundation’s board of directors, presented the check to the SLC School … Read More

Lakewood Park Elementary’s Science Club was in action sorting seeds and spaces to classify plants. The Club meets after school to dive deep into the state standards with hands-on activities.

SLW Centennial High School Criminal Justice Students in Ms. Baumgarten’s and Ms. Oliveira’s classes had the opportunity to learn about Emergency Management Systems in St. Lucie County.  Speakers included: Frank Amandro, Assistant Director for the Public Safety Department; Billy Weinshank, Emergency Management Safety Planner; Karen Kozac, Radiological Coordinator Assistant; and Sue McNichol, Human Resource Coordinator.  Students learned about different types of emergencies and how to respond to them, emergency planning and preparedness, career opportunities in emergency management, and how criminal  justice degrees and careers fit in with emergency management.

Many thanks to Northport K-8 7th grade Stingray students Dymond Wilkerson, Ariel Perry, Tyreese Morrison, and Jaivon Curate. These students showed initative and unpacked the entire book fair! They carried boxes, moved the carts, designed and organized the books, and really worked hard to make THEIR book fair great. This year’s book fair is designed by and for students at Northport K-8!

St. Lucie Public Schools is proud to announce that Morningside Elementary’s (MSE) Odyssey of the Mind Team won first place at the state competition and is advancing to the World Finals competition slated for May 21 – May 26 in Lansing, Michigan. Morningside’s team will convene with approximately 850 other teams for what is deemed to be the largest creative problem-solving competition. Mrs. Marsha Mimnaugh, Reading Interventionist at Samuel Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies, has been selected as an NEH Summer Scholar from a national applicant pool to attend one of 15 Landmarks of American History and Culture Workshops supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities.  The Endowment is a federal agency that, each summer, supports these enrichment opportunities at colleges, universities, and cultural institutions so teachers can study with experts in humanities disciplines. Author Keith Lawrence Roman visited Mariposa Elementary this week. He presented his books to the students and talked about what it takes to be an author. He discussed imagination as the key to writing. Student Evan is holding one of Keith Lawrence Roman’s most popular books, I Sat Beside an Elephant.  Student Trey asked the author a question about being an author. Student Chason was so proud to have his book signed by the author.  Thank you for visiting our school!      

Students in the Carpentry and Drafting Programs at Port St. Lucie High School were provided an overview of constructing a home from land prep to closing. The students were educated by Joe Stein and Richard Bukowski, both construction managers from GL Homes. Joel Dramis, Building Code Administrator for the City of Port St Lucie, provided expertise on the permitting process while Jim Brann of the Porch Factory talked about the traits he desires in employees, as well as scholarships provided by the Treasure Coast Business Association.  

Announced nationally by Conn-Selmer Education on April 1, 2019, CAST Music Teacher Andrew Gekoskie was chosen as a Conn-Selmer Educational Clinician!  Andrew Gekoskie is also the Music Director of The Gardens Pops Orchestra and Artistic Director/Conductor of The Orchestra X Project – a professional chamber orchestra located in South Florida. During Spring Break of 2019, the Lincoln Park Academy Theater attended the 2019 State Thespian Festival. The level of accomplishment of the students that represented this theater department was the most impressive that it has ever been. Students were awarded with three superior rated scholarship auditions, all of which yielded interviews for colleges with the applicants for scholarships and training programs.  An additional three were superior rated performance pieces, two excellent ratings, and a straight superior rated Top Honors award on the Large Group Musical Performance. On Saturday, March 30, 2019, Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion conducted a fundraiser in the parking lot of O’Reilly’s Auto Parts to raise money for the Regional Champion Drill Team. Cadets pre-sold tickets for several weeks prior to the fundraiser to help increase participation in the event. The 23 cadets who participated raised enough money to offset the cost of attending the State Drill Meet coming up on April 13, 2019. The cadets are now able to afford transportation to the State Championship Drill Meet in Lakeland, Florida!

Ms. Whitney Lerman and her kindergarten students are teaming up with Mrs. Andrea Pierson, Cafeteria Manager, to grow and serve ‘school grown’ vegetables on the cafeteria line at Weatherbee.  The veggies shown will be transformed into coleslaw and salad and served in our cafeteria for lunch!

On Saturday March 30, 2019, the Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion’s Marksmanship Team competed at Sebastian River High School in the inaugural American Legion 12th District 3P Air Rifle Match.  Our cadets: Cadet Major Joleen Kalinowski, Cadet Captain Mathew Simmons, Cadet Corporal Emmalyne Lewiston, and Cadet Sergeant First Class Edward Cook competed against 12 other schools from three counties.  The match was to help prepare cadets for the Area 3 South Regional Air Rifle Meet on April 6th at Atlantic Community High School in Delray Beach, FL.
