Forest Grove Middle School’s MOA students participated in ORCA’s (Ocean Research & Conservation Association, Inc.) Citizen Science One Health program on Saturday, March 27, 2021. The students engaged in the dissection of fish with the purpose of collecting specific data for their fish monitoring project. The participating students learned how to accurately collect specimen data for the further analysis of the fish living in the Indian River Lagoon. Made possible with the outstanding collaboration of FPC CTE teachers and students, FPC’s Freshman Seminar classes participated in a CTE Fair.  FPC CTE academies set up “CTE Stations” in building 2 to showcase their programs and the myriad of advantages and opportunities offered to Cobra students. The Freshman Seminar teachers rotated their classes around to each station encouraging students to learn about the course offerings ahead of class registration for next year. The Lincoln Park Academy Theatre Department Presented The Addams Family Musical in mid-March. Determined to create during a time of disconnect, the LPA Theatre Department worked hard to find ways to create theatre in an inventive and safe way. Students were so respectful during the process and were able to create brilliant theatre during a pandemic. This show follows Wednesday Addams, who has grown up and found love. Spring is here! Students in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade at Oak Hammock K-8 are learning about the life cycle of plants, water use, and most importantly, where food comes from, by growing herbs in the school’s infamous butterfly garden. Ms. Campbell’s 6th Grade ELA students learned dill and parsley are not only great herbs for cooking, but they are also favorite host plants for the Black Swallowtail Butterflies. Northport Northstar girls have been so moved by our Women’s History Month daily presentations on the morning announcements and in the classrooms that they decided to organize a mentoring task force to encourage young girls. These girls are great role models and are super excited to work with teachers to assist younger girls. Morning announcements included talks about Joan of Arc, Mary McCloud Bethune, Harriet Tubman, Susan B. Anthony, Helen Keller, Eleanor Roosevelt, Mae Jemison, Amelia Earhart, Malala, Marie Curie, Anne Frank, Mother Teresa, Sacagawea and Zora Neale Hurston. Northport, along with community partners, First United Methodist Church of Port Saint Lucie,  are kicking off the Summer Reading initiative.  Delivery and organization of books has begun ? We love our partners in literacy.  ? 3640 books have been donated to the students @ Northport by the congregation? Thanks Church! Your partnership means the world to us.  The church also donated thousands of stuffed Easter eggs to the children of Northport. ?

This IS Rocket Science! As part of their “Flight & Space” unit, students in Mr. Fess’ 7th grade Northstars STEM class constructed and launched model rockets. These students have been studying aerodynamics and propulsion systems in addition to the history and present state of rocketry and human spaceflight. Virtual students participated as well. Mr. Fess had previously delivered rockets to these students so they could build along with him virtually and come in to launch.

The F.K. Sweet and Lincoln Park Academy chapters are excited to announce the STEM & Buds regional fair is fast approaching! Ranging from candy math to the effect of different wind strengths on trees, elementary and middle school students will present projects they have created this school year. The free virtual fair will be held via Zoom on Friday, April 23 from 5:00-6:30pm. Check out the Buddy Reading program between 4th graders and 1st graders at White City Elementary! Older Wildcats and younger Wildcats are paired together to practice reading fluency, sight words, and comprehension by taking turns reading to one another! Many buddies have also shared random acts of kindness with one another all year via notes, cards, and greetings across campus! Way to go, Wildcats!

Students in St. Lucie West K-8 School’s grade 4-6 Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) class had fun while learning during their Math block! By using task boxes, students were able to practice their Math skills independently. Teachers Ms. Davis and Ms. McIntosh designed the task boxes which contain all the materials required for a specific activity.  Activities in the task boxes are planned by the teachers according to each students’ goals and Individual Education Plans.
