An important Referendum Renewal is on the November ballot.  It provides a school resource officer on every campus to ensure our children’s safety, supports the recruitment and retention of high-quality teachers, expands mental health services for students and supports special programs such as art and music in our schools.   Early voting begins October 24th and runs through November 5th.  Election Day is November 8th.   For more information, please visit Referendum Information – St Lucie Public Schools.   

The 6th Grade Eagles and Falcons Teams invited parents to take a tour of their student’s classrooms to experience their child’s daily experience in class. Parents were informed of the core subject schedule as they learned of the student curriculum, expectations, and credits, and were able to sign up for future conferences. The guidance counselor gave an overview of how to access student information in Skyward and how the breakdown of assignments calculates the overall grade. On Thursday, October 20th, 2022, the PSLHS Jaguar Battalion presented the colors at the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony. Commanding the Color Guard was National Flag Bearer Cadet Major Eric Smith accompanied by Cadet Sergeant Jayda Whiteman as State Flag Bearer, Cadet Corporal Ryan Lewis as right Guard, and Cadet First Sergeant Jeremiah Davis as left Guard.

Another Crown Jewel in the books! What a crazy season it has been thus far. The growth in the PSLHS Band show in one week has been incredible! The PSLHS Jaguar Band received Runner Up in Silver Class, won best General Effect, and tied for best Music Performance. Students in Mr. Wilk’s English Class presented on this quarter’s STEAM topic: Invasive Species. Groups researched various invasive species such as moths, ferns, and armadillos and how these species affected our area, our economy, and the environment. Students got creative with their presentations using dramatic performances and technology.

Friday Night Lights were record breaking on Friday, October 7th. PSLHS not only WON the game, but senior, Saleem Felder set a record for the MOST TOUCHDOWNS ever by one football player at Port St. Lucie High School. Saleem scored 7 touchdowns to bring home the win with his Jaguar Football teammates!

On Tuesday, October 18th, officials from the City of Port St. Lucie visited Southport Middle School’s 7th-grade students in honor of Florida Government Week 2022. The officials presented information about the City of Port St. Lucie initiatives. They answered questions about their individual roles in helping Port St. Lucie meet the needs of its community. Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Culinary Students under the leadership of Chef Roland Foerster worked diligently on their knife skills. These skills help to prepare our students for their future and to be career ready!

All K-5 students participated in a class research project. Students learned about Hispanic/Latin countries. In addition, students learned about Hispanic/Latin culture, traditions, and achievements. A Title One/ Parent Night was held at Lawnwood Elementary to recognize and honor National Hispanic Month.

On Friday, October 21st the JROTC Jaguar Battalion presented the colors for Senior Night at the football game against Southfork High School. Commanding the color guard was National Flag Bearer Cadet Major Mery Fuentes, along with Cadet Sergeant First Class Eathan Clayton as the State Flag Bearer, Cadet Sergeant Jason Arocho as the Right Guard, and Cadet Captain Mikayla Von Stein as the Left Guard. Our school won the game with a score of 14 to 0. The JROTC cadets had a tremendous time helping park cars for visitors, families, and referees, and can’t wait until our next honor guard.

Lincoln Park Academy took Shakespeare to a whole other level in presenting Twelfth Night, 80s style. Twelfth Night is a Shakespearean classic that follows Viola on her journey as she disguises herself to fit in a new town. Her twin brother shows up and chaos ensues. Set in 80s New York, the music of this time truly helped moved the story into a new universe. Don’t miss our Spring Musical: The Little Mermaid, March 9-11.

Kindergarteners at Palm Pointe learned all about first responders during Play with Purpose. Students grew their vocabulary, oral language, and social skills all while learning about the heroes in our community!

The Port St. Lucie High School Guidance Team put together an amazing Senior Guidance Night on Wednesday, October 12th. Parents and students of the Class of 2023 met with counselors and other representatives from the Armed Forces and IRSC to get support and information they need to get ready for college and careers!

On October 15th, the Port Saint Lucie Jaguar Battalion competed in their first Rifle Match against South Fork High School with A and B teams. The cadets were placed in 3 positions: Prone, Standing, and Kneeling. Out of our 2 teams, team A had 2 of 4 cadets placing 2nd and 3rd overall, Yurem Garcia shot a score of 203 out of 300, and Skylar Warner scored 201 out of 300. Congrats to both teams as they compete again on December 3rd.

  Southern Oaks Middle School hosted its first Parent Night to SOAR. Parents were able to hear about the new FAST testing, GradVenture, graduation requirements, and other pertinent information that students and parents will need to know for a successful school year.

West Gate’s very own Stephanie Ramirez, middle school art teacher, created a beautiful art piece for the SLC Lil Feet Auction which provides shoes to children in need. Stephanie’s art piece, which symbolizes the fire department’s “Surfers for Autism” foundation raised $10,000.

Palm Pointe is so proud to announce that student, Malayka Vickers, has just been published. Her book, The Missing Suit, has been published by TaylorMade Boox and is now available for purchase through Barnes and Noble. What an amazing accomplishment for this young lady. Way to go Malayka, we can’t wait to see the incredible future you will have as an author.  

                          Students and family members enjoyed a night of fun filled activities and shopping at Oak Hammock K8 Title 1 Family Night and Scholastic Book Fair. At the book fair, a plethora of books and gadgets were available for students and parents to peruse. The Title 1 information station provided information on how parents can help their child/children develop a love for reading.
