SLW Centennial NAVY JROTC Assist in Vietnam and Global War on Terrorism Memorial Wall Tribute

On Saturday, November 27th 2021, the SLW Centennial Navy JROTC assisted the Reverence Motorcycle Association and the Historical Society of Martin County in presenting Colors for the “Tribute to Valor” in remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defending freedom during the Vietnam War and the Global War on Terrorism. The Color Guard personnel were right rifleman Cadet Petty Officer First Class Daniel Sharpe, unit flagman Cadet Petty Officer First Class Peyton Mangine, ensign flagman Color Guard Commander Cadet Ensign Casey Scott, and left rifleman Cadet Lieutenant Commander Gregory Vetrano.

SLW Centennial NAVY JROTC assist Veteran’s Group at Horses and Heroes Event

The SLW Centennial High School’s Navy JROTC assisted the Horse and Heroes of Southeast Florida by providing a Color Guard and a Parking Detail for their event. The Horse and Heroes of Southeast Florida empowers and improves the lives of people struggling with the challenges of military injury and trauma, physically, emotionally, and spiritually, helping them to connect to a community through the benefits of equine-assisted activities and therapies.   The program provides veterans and their families the opportunity to learn fundamental horsemanship skills that foster connection and teamwork between horse and human.

SLW Centennial Navy JROTC Provides Color Guard for Navy League Treasure Coast Council Meeting

  The SLW Centennial NAVY JROTC provided a Color Guard for the Navy League Treasure Coast Council.  The Navy League hosted their first meeting of the fiscal year at the Quail Valley River Club in Vero Beach, Florida, celebrating the 246th birthday of the U.S. Navy on Tuesday, October 19th at 11:30 AM.   The SLW Centennial Navy JROTC provided a beautiful 50 State Flag backdrop and walkway to honor all of the SLW Centennial senior athletes that will be graduating this year. All Senior Athletes from bowling, cross-country, and golf had the honor of having their names called and their future plans read.  They also got to walk down with family members to receive flowers from Principal Andrea Popwell. The SLW Centennial High School NAVY JROTC participated in the homecoming festivities during the varsity football game versus Jensen Beach High School on Friday, September 24th, 2021.   The SLW Centennial Navy JROTC took an educational Field Trip to the Kennedy Space Center on Thursday, September 16th, 2021. The unit had an outstanding time learning the history of the “space race” by starting their field trip at the Heroes & Legends building featuring the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame. SLW Centennial HS NAVY JROTC Assists in Kindergarten Round-Up

The St. Lucie West Centennial High School’s Navy JROTC assisted parents and soon-to-be kindergartners by escorting them to SLW Centennial High School’s auditorium.  The event was held on Thursday, April 22nd from 11:00AM until 7:00PM.  SLW Centennial High School was one of three venues in the Saint Lucie School District where the Kindergarten Round-up events occurred. Future kindergartners received backpacks and other school supplies to assist in their transition to students in the upcoming school year.  Good luck to them all!

On Wednesday, January 27th, 2021, The SLW Centennial High School’s Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) conducted its Annual Military Inspection (AMI) on its football field. Multiple distinguished and honored guests attended, including Purple Heart recipient Major Hal Davis (US Army Ret.), Navy League Treasure Coast Council Youth Director Captain Peter Petrelis (US Navy Ret.) and United States Special Forces Association Members Lieutenant Colonel Lynn Steele (US Army Ret.), Sergeant Bill Sander (US Army Ret.) and Sergeant Art Walker (US Army Ret.). SLW Centennial NAVY JROTC Assists Toys for Tots

  The SLW Centennial NAVY JROTC Black Talon Company annually partners with Toys for Tots and the United States Marine Corps to collect toys for underprivileged families and children.  This year they collected over 600 toys (4 Large Boxes) for the Toys for Tots organization and they have volunteered over 400 community service hours in support of Toys for Tots. The NJROTC Black Talon unit begins collecting toys annually, from October and ending in December, every year. The unit assists in collecting, categorizing, and distributing the much needed toys and cheer to the local area’s less fortunate families and children.  … Read More

The SLW Centennial High School Navy JROTC was proud to provide a Color Guard to open the Black History Month Celebration at Northport K-8 on February 14th.  The Color Guard Unit consisted of Cadet Chief Petty Officer Michael Parnass (Right Rifleman), Cadet Third Class Petty Officer Damien Cooper (Ensign Flagman), Cadet Lieutenant Commander Matthew Ciolino (Unit Flagman), and Cadet Third Class Petty Officer Alek Yatsushkevech (Left Rifleman).  

SLWCHS Navy JROTC Mentors Students

The St. Lucie West Centennial Navy JROTC unit continues its mentoring program with the Boys and Girls Club of St. Lucie West K-8 by educating their students regarding respect when performing Color Guard duties.  The students were educated in proper rifleman and flagman procedures as well as shown proper Color Guard drill commands and procedures.  The St. Lucie West Centennial Navy JROTC mentor the St. Lucie West K-8 Boys and Girls Club students every Tuesday each week.

SLWCHS NAVY JROTC Mentors at West Gate K-8

The SLW Centennial High School NAVY JROTC continues to mentor the West Gate K-8 middle school students through a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club.  This week, the Centennial Black Talon Cadets demonstrated physical training stretches and exercises and had the Boys and Girls Club children participate as well. Part of the mentoring process for the Centennial Black Talon unit is not only instilling principles of leadership, but showing the students the importance of physical fitness.  

SLWCHS Navy JROTC Provides Color Guard Detail for Night of the Stars Event

The SLW Centennial High School’s NAVY JROTC was honored to provide the Color Guard detail for the St. Lucie School District’s Education Foundation “Night of the Stars” gala event on Saturday, February 9, 2019.  The detail was manned by Nicholas Gunnel (left rifleman), Ian Martens (Unit flagman), Julian Ortiz (Ensign flagman) and Bryson Laurent (right rifleman).

SLW Centennial Navy JROTC Mentoring Students

The SLW Centennial Navy JROTC, in cooperation with the West Gate Boys and Girls Club, has begun a mentoring program.  The partnership hopes to instill great citizenship values of patriotism, self-sacrifice, self-discipline and attention to detail in our grade school youth.

SLW Centennial HS NAVY JROTC Has Annual Military Inspection (AMI)

On Thursday, January 31, 2019, the SLW Centennial HS NAVY JROTC had its Annual Military Inspection (AMI).  The Inspecting officer was Commander Patrick Thurman, USN (retired).  CDR Thurman is the Area 7 Manager of the NJROTC program and oversees the NJROTC program for the entire state of Florida and over 60 NJRTOC units.  CDR Thurman was truly impressed with the professionalism and military bearing that the Black Talon Cadets possessed.  The inspection verifies that all NJROTC requirements are being met to include academics, marching and drill, physical fitness and personnel inspection. SLW Centennial Naval Science Instructor at Woodcarvers Presentation

SLW Centennial High School NAVY JROTC‘s own Naval Science Instructor Gunnery Sergeant Rodriguez, USMC (Ret.) participated in the Woodcarvers Purple Heart Cane presentation this weekend on the 26th of January 2019.  He can be seen on the accompanied picture third from the right.  The Woodcarvers Organization presents handmade walking canes to Military Veteran and Active Duty Purple Heart recipients.
