Wind Turbines Lifting with Natural Resources at SLWK8

SLWK8 Middle School STEAM students in Mrs. Boham’s class created wind turbines to learn about technician and engineering careers in the natural and renewable energy sectors. All students were able to meet the design brief to lift one washer, which weighed 9 grams. Three teams created turbines that lifted 20 washers or 175 grams! They put the engineering design process through a workout by testing and improving numerous times to create an aerodynamic blade and support structure to lift such a heavy payload. On Saturday, October 11, twelve students from Fort Pierce Central’s CNA and Health Science Foundations classes participated in Inside the Operating Room: Robotic Discovery Day at HCA Lawnwood Hospital. St. Lucie West Centennial High School students in the Cambridge AICE A-level Marine Science participated in “A Day in the Life of the Indian River Lagoon”. On October 4th, a dedicated group of 15 enthusiastic members from the LPA Key Club came together to participate in the Breast Cancer 5K race held at Tradition Square in Port Saint Lucie.
