FK Sweet’s MOA Program Dives Into Lagoon Learning with FAU

FK Sweet’s MOA Discovery Program kicked off their first session with FAU Harbor Branch. The session introduced students to lagoon habitats and wildlife by utilizing scientific tools, examining specimens, and demonstrating how the concepts introduced in the classroom relate to marine science research. Students investigated seagrass beds, mangroves, oyster reefs, and the diverse array of animals that depend on them. Our Kindergartners at Frances K. Sweet have just completed an exciting unit on Sea Turtles as part of the MOA Discovery Program! Throughout the unit, students explored the seven species of sea turtles, their habitats, and life cycles, while learning how they can help protect these amazing creatures—especially during beach visits.  We’re thrilled to announce the return of Marine Marvels: Exploring Careers Beneath the Waves! As part of FK Sweet’s brand-new MOA Discovery Program, this incredible experience is opening up the world of marine science and conservation careers to our 4th-grade students. Frances K. Sweet Third Graders Attend the UF/IFAS First Annual Insect Festival

Frances K. Sweet third graders were invited to attend the first annual St. Lucie County Insect Festival hosted by the UF/IFAS Ag-extension. Students were able to learn how bees communicate with each other, careers in entomology, have a chance to pet and feel what a millipede is like, race Madagascar cockroaches, and even try insect snacks!

Frances K. Sweet Welcomes Community Partnership with First United Methodist of Fort Pierce

Frances K. Sweet is excited to have a new community partnership with First United Methodist of Fort Pierce. Through this partnership, the church has already provided backpacks and supplies for students, school uniform shirts, and welcome-back goodie bags for all staff. First United will also provide Grace Packs to students and their siblings, volunteer at the school, provide Big Brothers and Big Sisters mentoring for literacy, and support the work already started in our botanical garden. We are so excited about this partnership and look forward to a SWEET year!

Chef Howard Farro Visits Chester A. Moore Elementary

Chester. A Moore Elementary welcomed Chef Howard Farro to speak to our 5th Graders as part of our Black History Month and AVID speaker series. Students were excited to learn about how Chef Howard’s career got started and especially how he became a personal chef for celebrities! Chef Farro gave an inspirational talk that encouraged students to pay attention in school, always do the best they can, and to know they can rebound from any setbacks in life.
