What’s for lunch? This week was National School Lunch Week, and our Jaguars were treated to a multicultural lunch experience!  Take a look at our Themed Options! Tuesday-Japan/Wednesday-Italy/Thursday-Mexico/Friday-Brazil. The students and staff could not wait to see the cafeteria daily! Our Jaguars were exposed to so many sights, smells, and sounds! Southport Middle Welcomes 6th Graders

Incoming sixth graders had an exciting and engaging morning at Southport Middle School during their transition camp. The event was designed to help students acclimate to their new environment by introducing them to SPMS expectations and encouraging social interaction through various activities. One of the highlights was a campus-wide scavenger hunt, which allowed students to explore and learn the layout of the school. Celebrating Bayshore’s Young Authors

Congratulations to our incredible students for writing and illustrating their very own book! Students were asked to write and illustrate an original story.  Through their writing, students have opened the door to a “World of Wonder”. On February 7th, 2025, 120 talented students from St. Lucie Public Schools, spanning grades 6-12, showcased their skills at the 37th Annual St. Lucie County Regional STEM Fair held at Indian River State College. Soup-er Appreciation: Students ESE Spread Warmth Across the School

In a heartwarming display of gratitude, our self-contained students recently made delicious homemade chicken noodle soup and vegetable soup to share with teachers throughout the school. With a spirit of kindness, the students delivered their creations, spreading warmth both in flavor and in spirit. Southern Oaks Celebrates National Kids at Hope Day

November 1st is National Kids at Hope Day. Southern Oaks Middle School, an official Kids at Hope school, joined in the celebration. Principal, Henry Sanabria, students, and staff recite the Kids at Hope pledge daily, so it was only fitting that they evidence that belief on Friday, the 1st. The colors of the Kids at Hope organization were on display throughout the campus. Teachers, students, and staff wore blue and yellow attire for the day. It was their outward statement of the Kids at Hope pledge that “all children are capable of success, no exceptions.”  

A MOOOOvelous Day of Genetics Thanks to the Dairy Council of Florida and the St. Lucie Education Foundation

On Saturday, October 19th, 2024, twenty biology teachers from St. Lucie Public Schools engaged in an exceptional professional development session, generously hosted by the Dairy Council of Florida. During this session, educators were trained in the use of a gel electrophoresis machine, a vital tool in genetic studies. This training was contextualized within the dairy farming industry and was complemented by an enlightening tour of a self-sufficient dairy farm in Okeechobee! CAST Middle School Musical Theatre Students Visit the Kravis Center

Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie (CAST) Middle School Musical Theatre students had the wonderful opportunity of visiting the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach. Students watched the matinee performance of Shrek, The Musical.  Students also experienced their very first “talk back” with the Shrek cast.  A special thank you to Mr. Wallace Rahming, Musical Theatre director, for providing CAST students with such a wonderful experience.

Family Fun Fair

The annual Family Fun Fair took place on Saturday, April 13th at the Fenn Center. SLPS VPK teachers and paraprofessionals from Parkway Elementary (Kimberly Davis and Melissa Tucker) and Mariposa Elementary (Claudia Bonilla and Terri Johnson) engaged children and families in learning about the Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards and how to support student learning through creating, playing, and pretending. Every child took home materials and a handout of ideas to continue learning at home. A special appearance was made by Curious George (Mary Huffstetter).   

Southern Oaks Middle School Hosts Black History Month Art Gallery

Southern Oaks Middle School celebrated February’s Black History Month encompassing the 2024 theme, African Americans and the Arts, a concord with the theme established by The Association for the Study of African American Life and History. For February, students and staff were invited to contribute art they owned or created. Students and staff of all races contributed work celebrating Black history and culture. The museum curator and Media Specialist, Kaitlyn Kloser, displayed the art as a walkthrough of history to modern-day Black life. Students and staff toured on their own all month long. Village Green Art Club

An Art Club has been created by teachers at Village Green to allow elementary students to tap into their creative sides! Students who have an interest in art now have an opportunity to explore arts and crafts beyond what is offered in the curriculum. VGE students are having a blast expressing themselves in different ways!

Centennial’s Early Childhood Classes Experience Wearing an “Empathy Belly”

The staff from the Children’s Home Society “Teen Life Choices” visited Mrs. Wester’s early childhood classes and had the students try on an “Empathy Belly”, which allows the students to feel like they are 9 months pregnant. The students walked around the classroom, tried to tie their shoes, tried lying down and getting up, and bending down to pick up toys on the floor. After wearing this for five minutes the students were exhausted and ready to take it off. Village Green Fire and Ambulance Demo

Village Green students had the opportunity to tour a fire engine and ambulance truck this week. Stacey Carter, from the Fire Safety Program, along with St Lucie County Firefighters, delivered an educational and interactive fire safety message to our students. The firefighters explained the equipment and tools carried on the trucks and the students learned how the equipment might be used in various types of emergencies. This was such a great experience for our students!

Leadership and Accountability at Gaines Academy

Some of the 8th graders at SGAET recently had the opportunity to be accountability partners for Ms. LaBare’s class.  They paired up to share their Leadership Portfolios with each other.  Leadership Portfolios are created and maintained by ALL students K-8 at Samuel S. Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies.  The portfolios are a piece of the Leader in Me program and include each student’s individual goals, tracked data, work samples showing growth, leadership roles, and more.  These students practiced presenting their Leadership Portfolios to each other and provided each other with feedback for improvement.  A big thank you to Ms. LaBare … Read More
