Oak Hammock K8 Students Participate in Career and Technical Showcase

Students from Oak Hammock K8 participated in Career and Technical Education (CTE) showcase with students from middle and high schools across St. Lucie Public Schools. The Showcase was all about Entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurial mindset. The CTE classroom is a perfect place for teaching these skills, since CTE teachers already cover many lessons and projects in entrepreneurship. The categories were New Food truck concept, E-commerce, 3D Printing, Welding, Artistic creation, and Middle School Entrepreneurship. Oak Hammock k-8 participated in the middle school Entrepreneurship category. Students at Oak Hammock K8 School continue to Level up Learning, to Level up Success!

Jaguar Battalion Change of Command

On Wednesday, April 24th at 6:30 PM, the Port St. Lucie High School JROTC Jaguar Battalion hosted our Annual Change of Command Ceremony, Relinquishing the current Battalion Commander c/LTC Michael Coccaro of his duty and welcoming c/LTC Tamiya Ferguson to command and lead the Jaguar Battalion on a successful path for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. The Change of Command is a simple traditional event that is rich with symbolism and heritage.  The key to the change of command is the passing of the unit’s colors, symbolizing the commander’s responsibility to the organization. Palm Pointe Brings Home the Hardware

Congratulations to the Palm Pointe Jazz Band. They participated in the Lakeside Jazz Festival in Port Orange Florida. Out of 19 bands they took home trophies for the Best Overall Rhythm Section, Best Overall Trombone Section as well as Overall Best Band at the festival. They also received a superior rating. The students were pleased to see their hard work pay off and are looking forward to more jazz growth!

Fort Pierce Westwood JROTC’s Annual Cadet Ball

On Friday, April 19th, the Cadets from the Fort Pierce Westwood Army JROTC put the lid on a long and demanding year of extracurricular commitments and teamwork-based missions with their Annual Cadet Ball, held at the historical 500 Orange Event Hall in Fort Pierce. Over 150 Cadets and guests were in attendance, including the Principal of FPWA, Mr. David Alfonso as well as Assistant Principals Dr. Eddie Robinson, Ms. Nicole Smith, and Mr. Derek Gordon. SLPS & St. Lucie Public Library Art Project

On Friday, April 19th, students from St. Lucie West Centennial High School, St. Lucie West K-8, Northport K-8, Westgate K-8, and Rivers Edge Elementary came to the district office to participate in the creation of a permanent art installation on the new Port St. Lucie Library. The students worked with the artist Justin Shea to create Henri Matisse-inspired cut-outs which will be turned into mosaic tiles on the exterior of the new library.

Fort Pierce Westwood JROTC Cadets Keep Port St Lucie Beautiful

Let’s give a big shout-out to our Army JROTC Cadets who participated in the Port St. Lucie 29th Annual “Caring Community Clean-Up Day” on Saturday, 13 APR. Our Cadets provided a helping hand to the “Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful” organization which strives to improve our quality of life through environmental education, area beautification, urban transformation, and litter control. They worked from 7:30 am until 1 pm in various parts of Port St. Lucie, collecting HUNDREDS of pounds of litter. 2024 District Social Studies Fairs

Students across the county researched historical topics and public policy issues in their secondary social studies classrooms.  Schools selected their top projects to advance to the district competitions to represent their schools.  February 23rd was the 32nd annual History Day fair in which 93 middle and high school students were invited to the district office to showcase a historical research project.  Their topics aligned with this year’s national theme of Turning Points in History and were displayed in either an exhibit, website, documentary, performance, or research paper format.  On March 8th, 59 middle school Civics students were invited to the … Read More

Palm Pointe Night at the Met’s Stadium a Real “Hit”

Palm Pointe students got to enjoy a Family Baseball Night at Clover Park! Students watched the baseball game, Assistant Principal Mr.Keelor got to throw the first pitch, our middle school Vocal Vision choir sang the National Anthem, our elementary chorus sang “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” during the 7th inning stretch, and students had the opportunity to the run the bases after the game. It was a fun night had by all!

Forces and Changes in Motion at SLWK8

Fifth graders in Mrs. Portee’s class prepared for their upcoming science assessment on Forces and Changes in Motion through an interactive and collaborative review. The microphone ball was tossed from one classmate to another as they broadcasted their answers to complete the review!  

SLWK8 Third Graders Conquer Academic Challenges as a Team

Third-grade students in Ms. Paries’ class were fully immersed in a dynamic Fear Factor style test prep activity. They collaborated in teams to complete academic challenges! Their enthusiasm peaked as they completed each challenge with their teams. They eagerly reached into the mystery bags for surprise rewards. It was a joy to witness their enthusiasm and hard work throughout the activity!  

Delicious Two-Dimensional Designs at SLWK8

Ms. Roberts’s second grade class learned about two-dimensional figures and their attributes. During their geometry lesson they used toothpicks and marshmallows to make their own 2-dimensional shapes. They found the perimeter and how many vertices each shape has!

Fort Pierce Central’s Lt. Colonel Saxton Selected for Prestigious Institute

Congratulations to Retired Lt. Colonel Saxton for being selected for a full scholarship to the Bob and Marion Wilson Teacher Institute from June 16-21 in Williamsburg, Virginia. This year, participants will learn more about “Evolving Perspectives on American Identity: Resistance, Revolution, and Reform (1607–1870).” The intensive Teacher Institute immerses participants in American history while staying in Williamsburg, the restored capital city of eighteenth-century Virginia. During the Institute, teachers will learn techniques to actively engage students in a complete and diverse history that helps them see themselves in the story of our shared past. First Lady Casey DeSantis announced a new website to collect family-oriented, kid-friendly recipes for a project designed to benefit the Hope Florida Fund. She invites Floridians and parents from across the state to submit their favorite recipes. “In the DeSantis family, we love cooking with the kids,” said First Lady Casey DeSantis. “I am asking Floridians to share their favorite kid-friendly recipes to be included in a project that will benefit the Hope Florida Fund. Family Fun Fair

The annual Family Fun Fair took place on Saturday, April 13th at the Fenn Center. SLPS VPK teachers and paraprofessionals from Parkway Elementary (Kimberly Davis and Melissa Tucker) and Mariposa Elementary (Claudia Bonilla and Terri Johnson) engaged children and families in learning about the Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards and how to support student learning through creating, playing, and pretending. Every child took home materials and a handout of ideas to continue learning at home. A special appearance was made by Curious George (Mary Huffstetter).
