Fairlawn Elementary Celebrates Literacy Week

Fairlawn Elementary spent the last week of January celebrating Literacy Week! Students were able to wear “fashionable to read” attire one day. Students were also treated to guest readers from all around our community, including the Fort Pierce police department, St. Lucie Public School Board Members, and even the Mayor! All students were gifted finger lights to help track their reading in school and at home. As part of Literacy Week, Fairlawn Elementary proudly hosted Community Reader Day, a special event that brought reading to life in every classroom. Community members joined our students throughout the day, volunteering their time to read stories, share experiences, and model a love for books. From kindergarten to fifth grade, students listened eagerly as guest readers helped make stories engaging, meaningful, and fun. Fairlawn Elementary Builds Big with Valentine’s Day Sticky Structures

Fairlawn Elementary’s second graders put their engineering skills to the test during a fun and creative STEM activity called “Valentine’s Day Sticky Structures!” Students used heart-shaped fruit snacks and toothpicks to complete 12 different shape-building challenges. From triangles and squares to more complex geometric designs, students carefully constructed each shape while learning about stability, angles, and teamwork. After completing the challenge shapes, the real excitement began! Students worked in teams to design and build their own unique 3D structures. Fairlawn Elementary Begins All Pro Dad Chapter

Fairlawn Elementary hosted its Launch Meeting for All Pro Dad. All Pro Dad is a fatherhood program focused on building strong relationships, character development, and providing practical parenting tips to foster better father-child connections. We welcomed over 30 dads who came together to explore the power of consistency in parenting. The session focused on practical strategies for creating routines, setting clear expectations, and following through—key elements that help children feel secure and supported. A wonderful time was had by all at the annual Shade and Fresh Water Art Show held on Friday evening, where creativity and talent were on full display. Fairlawn Elementary proudly showcased the artistic achievements of 35 students, each contributing unique and inspiring pieces to the exhibition. Fairlawn Elementary are Read to Succeed Champions

Superintendent Dr. Jon R. Prince was joined by Big Apple Owner Scott Vanduzer, Representative Dana Trabulsy, and Sean Boyle, CEO of the Children’s Services Council of SLC to announce Fairlawn Elementary as the Big Apple Read to Succeed Program CHAMPIONS. They will receive $10,000 to support student achievement along with a school-wide celebration!

Fairlawn Elementary 4-H Students Shine at the Fair

Students from Fairlawn Elementary proudly participated in the St. Lucie County Fair through their involvement in local 4-H groups. Students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade had the opportunity to showcase animals they had been raising and caring for over the past several months. Fair visitors were able to see a wide variety of animals presented by Fairlawn students, including chickens, goats, turtles, bunnies, swine, and even steer. Participating in 4-H gave these young students the chance to learn valuable lessons about responsibility, commitment, and animal care. Fairlawn Elementary 2nd Graders Celebrate “Pumpkin Day”

Fairlawn 2nd graders recently celebrated their “Pumpkin Day,” an ongoing tradition here at Fairlawn. Students, with the help of our wonderful parent and family volunteers, and, of course, their wonderful teachers, connected the fun of Halloween with math and science. The students had fun working with partners to complete a pumpkin investigation activity, including counting their pumpkins’ seeds by placing the seeds in groups of ten, measuring the circumference of their pumpkins, weighing their pumpkins, and making inferences and predictions as to whether or not their pumpkins would float in a vat of water. Fairlawn – Designated Beacon School for Imagine Nation

Representatives from Imagine Nation recently visited Fairlawn Elementary School to bestow congratulations and present Principal Pam Holmes and staff with a special Beacon Award.   Each year, Imagine Nation recognizes top schools across the country that demonstrate stellar usage of Imagine Learning, one of the parent company’s digital language, literacy, and math programs. Fairlawn Cleans Up & Appreciates Staff

In honor of Earth Day, Fairlawn’s Student Council worked Saturday, April 24th to beautify the school grounds by picking up trash around campus.  The students ended their morning with creating a small token of appreciation for Fairlawn’s staff by planting individual plants for each staff member.  Student Council would like to thank our supportive parents that made this day a success and JBR Exteriors for purchasing the supplies necessary for the Staff Appreciation gifts.

Fairlawn Celebrates Student Appreciation Week

Fairlawn Elementary celebrated student appreciation week April 7-11. The week was filled with opportunities for the students to share how they are shining stars, walk the red carpet, and feel the love they deserve each and every day. Fairlawn Celebrates Proficiency

Students in fourth grade were able to hold assistant principal, Mrs. Reid to her word from last year. The grade level with the highest proficiency was able to duct tape her to the wall! The students had a blast taking turns taping her and making sure she didn’t budge! Way to go fourth grade!

Fairlawn Celebrated Grandparents

Last week, Fairlawn Elementary celebrated all of its grandparents by inviting them out to lunch with their grandchildren. Over 400 grandparents showed up to celebrate the special day! 

Fair display awards presented, Kiwanis donates to schools and foundation

Awards for school displays at the 2013 St. Lucie County Fair were presented at the April 9, 2013, St. Lucie County School Board meeting, and the Kiwanis Sunrise Club also presented annual monetary awards to schools. The theme of the 2013 fair was, “500 Years of Florida Heritage.” For the elementary division, first place went to Lawnwood Elementary, $500; second place went to Windmill Pointe Elementary, $250; and third place to Village Green Environmental Science School, $100. She will also share how 8th graders can apply now to enroll in one of the programs next year. Fa-boo-lous Fifth Grade Music at CAST

Fifth-graders at CAST practiced playing some spooky Halloween music during their Fine Arts classes in October. In Dr. Irwin’s music class, students played hand drums, tambourines, triangles, and claves along with the Silly Symphony Skeleton dance. In Mr. Guess’ instrumental ensemble class, students combined the guitar, keyboard, xylophone, and the Nuvo Dood in an awesome arrangement of “Monster Mash.” Boo-tiful job, Performers!

F.S. Sweet Loves Dr. Seuss!

F.K. Sweet staff and students were so very excited to wear our favorite hats to honor Dr. Seuss’ book, The Cat in the Hat. F.P. Westwood Teacher’s Creativity Nationally Recognized

Fort Pierce Westwood High School would like to recognize and celebrate one of our teachers, Mr. James Norcia. Mr. Norcia created a motivation plan known as the “The Raceway Contest” which has made its way onto the Reading Plus© Training Site – Creating Motivation Plans.  Mr. Norcia developed this plan last spring during our initial implementation of the Reading Plus© program. Fort Pierce Central Hosts Basketball Leadership Camp

Fort Pierce Central High School hosted over 200 student-athletes throughout three weeks of basketball camp this summer. The FPC Basketball / Person of Influence Camp challenged campers to maximize their athletic potential while encouraging these students to extend past comfort level and to open their minds to learning new techniques and drills. Additionally, students were engaged in coaching-instruction  that focused primarily on teamwork, leadership, and self-confidence. F. K. Sweet’s Challenge Program Awarded a Grant

Mrs. Stacey Johnson was awarded a $100.00 classroom grant from the Retired Florida Education Association.  Mrs. Barbara Kaste presented the award which will be  used to  purchase rocket engines for building model rockets from recycled materials with students in the Challenge Program.
