Fairlawn 2nd graders recently celebrated their “Pumpkin Day,” an ongoing tradition here at Fairlawn. Students, with the help of our wonderful parent and family volunteers, and, of course, their wonderful teachers, connected the fun of Halloween with math and science. The students had fun working with partners to complete a pumpkin investigation activity, including counting their pumpkins’ seeds by placing the seeds in groups of ten, measuring the circumference of their pumpkins, weighing their pumpkins, and making inferences and predictions as to whether or not their pumpkins would float in a vat of water. Fairlawn Elementary Magnet School students in grades K-5 will be treated to their very own VIP dining experience at the all-new Green Café. Our student diners will be able to enjoy their lunches in this unique and fun restaurant-style setting, complete with music, a small library, comfy seating, and even battery-operated candles. Students will be invited to Green Café throughout the year as they enter the “green” levels of academic proficiency on various state, district, and school-based assessments. Fairlawn Elementary Magnet School was excited to host families for our first Title I Curriculum Night of the year—a special evening dedicated to building strong school-home partnerships and fostering student success. Families had the opportunity to explore classroom learning goals, gain insight into the nuances of state testing, and discover how Title I resources enhance academic achievement. Teachers shared strategies for reinforcing learning at home, and families engaged in meaningful conversations about how to support their children’s education. It was a successful night filled with collaboration, connection, and community spirit, reflecting Fairlawn’s commitment to excellence and inclusive family engagement.
