Fairlawn 2nd graders recently celebrated their “Pumpkin Day,” an ongoing tradition here at Fairlawn. Students, with the help of our wonderful parent and family volunteers, and, of course, their wonderful teachers, connected the fun of Halloween with math and science. The students had fun working with partners to complete a pumpkin investigation activity, including counting their pumpkins’ seeds by placing the seeds in groups of ten, measuring the circumference of their pumpkins, weighing their pumpkins, and making inferences and predictions as to whether or not their pumpkins would float in a vat of water.
