Fairlawn Elementary Odyssey Team goes on to state competition

Fairlawn Elementary competed in the regional Odyssey of the Mind competition recently in Palm Beach County.  Four teams, which included 28 Fairlawn Elementary students, competed in four different problems.  Odyssey of the Mind challenges students to write a play, design costumes, props and sets, and perform the play to an audience of judges.  Then, they are evaluated based on the creativity and quality of their performance.  While all the teams performed well, Fairlawn’s “To Be or Not To Be” team placed first and will be heading to the state competition in Orlando, and, in a separate problem, Fairlawn’s “Weird Science” team placed second.

Fairlawn Elementary Magnet School’s Student Council Helps Pack Food for Families

Fairlawn Elementary Lights Up the Night with Literacy & Family Fun

Fairlawn families made memories to last a lifetime at our recent Movie Night celebration! As the grand finale to our One School, One Book journey with Nim’s Island, students, parents, and staff gathered together for an evening filled with laughter, learning, and community spirit. Fairlawn Elementary kindergartners visit the fire station

Students in Fairlawn Elementary kindergarten classes recently visited St. Lucie County’s Central Fire Station. The students toured the fire station and explored the fire trucks. Some children were able to spray a real fire hose!  Pictured is kindergartner Mason Cohen and a new friend.  

Fairlawn Elementary kindergartners learn about fire safety

As part of Fire Safety Month, kindergarten students at Fairlawn Elementary School recently traveled to the central Fire Station near Lawnwood Regional Medical Center. Students learned about what to do if there is a fire and what equipment the firefighter may use. Students also got to see a firefighter in full gear to show not to be afraid of them if they see them in a fire. Fairlawn Elementary kindergartners learn about butterfly life cycles

Kristie Wuycheck and Vanessa Solomon’s kindergarten classrooms at Fairlawn Elementary School have became virtual butterfly gardens of learning! Boys and girls from both classrooms learned about the butterfly’s life cycle, then participated in a live butterfly cycle project. The students were able to follow the full life cycle from a “hungry” caterpillar, to fascinating chrysalis, and finally into beautiful Painted Lady butterflies!! Watching this remarkable transformation helped to give the students a profound understanding of the delicate life cycle of the Painted Lady butterfly.

Fairlawn Elementary Kindergarten Welcomes a Special 4-H Visit

Kindergarten students at Fairlawn Elementary recently enjoyed a very special visit from our local 4-H club! The excitement filled the room as Ms. Candy introduced two adorable animal friends — Mario the guinea pig and Bowser the bunny. There were lots of smiles, giggles, and wide eyes as students had the chance to see the animals up close and learn all about them. During the visit, students learned important lessons about pet care and responsibility. Fairlawn students enjoyed a joyful and well-deserved Picnic on the Green as we celebrated their academic growth from PM1 to PM2. The event brought smiles, music, and plenty of excitement as students gathered outdoors to relax, connect with friends, and celebrate their hard work. Fairlawn Elementary Green Party Celebrates Student Achievement

Fairlawn students were recently recognized for their academic growth and achievement during the ACALETICS Green Party, a schoolwide celebration held in the cafeteria, which was transformed into “Club 67” for the event. The celebration honored students who met established academic goals by achieving at least 50 percent mastery or demonstrating a minimum of 20 percent growth in their learning. All participating students received glow-themed incentives, including bracelets, necklaces, snacks, and juice boxes, as a way to acknowledge their hard work and commitment to improvement. Fairlawn Elementary Fun Run Brings Big Support

Fairlawn Elementary recently hosted its annual Fun Run, bringing together students, staff, and families for an exciting day filled with school spirit. Fairlawn Elementary food drive benefits local pantry

Fairlawn Elementary First-Graders Reach for the Stars at IRSC

Fairlawn Elementary’s first-graders had an out-of-this-world adventure during their recent field trip to the Indian River State College Planetarium! What made the experience even more special was that students were able to walk there together, enjoying the beautiful day and the excitement of heading to such an amazing local resource right in our own community. Last week, Fairlawn Elementary’s fourth-graders traded their desks and textbooks for hiking trails and discovery as they visited the Oxbow Eco-Center. Students in Shirley Helton’s fifth grade class at Fairlawn Elementary swept the fall competition of the Florida Stock Market Challenge. Fairlawn Elementary recently welcomed K–2 families for an engaging and informative Camp UFLI Parent Night that brought learning, community, and fun together.
