Fair display awards presented, Kiwanis donates to schools and foundation

Awards for school displays at the 2013 St. Lucie County Fair were presented at the April 9, 2013, St. Lucie County School Board meeting, and the Kiwanis Sunrise Club also presented annual monetary awards to schools. The theme of the 2013 fair was, “500 Years of Florida Heritage.” For the elementary division, first place went to Lawnwood Elementary, $500; second place went to Windmill Pointe Elementary, $250; and third place to Village Green Environmental Science School, $100. Honorable mention and $50 went to F. K. Sweet and Weatherbee elementary schools. In the middle school division, first place and $500 went to Samuel S. Gaines Academy; second place and $250 went to Dan McCarty School; and $100 and third place went to Forest Grove Middle School. For the high school division, $500 and first place went to Port St. Lucie High School; second place and $250 went to Westwood High School; and third place and $100 went to Treasure Coast High School. Special “Out of the Box” award and $500 went to Palm Point Education Research School, and People’s Choice Award and $500 went to F. K. Sweet Elementary. Other awards not associated with the St. Lucie County Fair include $250 donations to the media centers at Fairlawn and F. K. Sweet elementary schools, and the $1,000 annual contribution to the St. Lucie County Education Foundation.
