Volunteers help Northport K8 students and staff succeed

Northport K-8 school depends on a large and dynamic contingency of parent, grandparent, community and student volunteers to provide assistance to teachers and staff. Volunteers provide individual educational assistance to students to help increase achievement in all areas of curriculum.  There are many opportunities for volunteerism in the school. Categories are instructional, resource, organizational such as PTO and School Advisory committee, Business Partners, Mentoring and fundraisers as well as our dynamic Veterans Partners In Education program.  Pictured are parents Jackie Weir, left, and Suzie Scott who are assisting in the Media Center preparing book sets for the middle grades bookroom.  Anyone Interested … Read More

Volunteer Orientation held at Palm Pointe

Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition held a Volunteer/Business Partner Orientation on Tuesday, September 16th.  Volunteers and Business Partners were oriented to the application process and responsibilities of being a volunteer for St. Lucie County and Palm Pointe.  Volunteers jumped right in and signed up for events while business partners, Sweetcakes and Bagel Brothers, donated scrumptious breakfast goodies!   Everyone working together…that’s the Pointe.  Pictured is Karol Carvelli as she explains all about being a volunteer.  

Volunteer Orientation at Palm Pointe

Karol Carvelli, Volunteer Coordinator at Palm Pointe Educational Research School at Tradition, recently met with all the volunteers for this school year to orient them on the new on-line application system.  They also reviewed the volunteer expectations at the school while enjoying morning coffee and sweet rolls.

Voices of the Future: Lincoln Park Academy 7th Grade Civics Project Citizen

Dr. Sparacio’s and Ms. Maldonado’s 7th Grade Civics students represented Lincoln Park Academy with excellence at the St. Lucie Public Schools Project Citizen Showcase. They have poured their time, energy, and heart into Project Citizen, and it truly shows. Dr. Sparacio’s Class project was a “Route Awakening: Driving Change in Our Community” and Ms. Maldonado’s Class project was “Be Seen, Be Safe. St. Lucie Public Schools Bust Stop Signs” started as an idea in our classroom and grew into a thoughtful, research-based public policy proposal focused on making a real difference. Vocabulary parade comes to Windmill Point

The Vocabulary Parade came to Windmill Point Elementary again this year, and the students were invited to dress up to describe their assigned word.  Ashli Sivalls, kindergarten student from Tara Nettles’ class, described her word “observe” perfectly with her magnifying glass!

White City Elementary students participated in a vocabulary parade. WCE students enjoyed this visually amusing event.  Students are using their creative skills and learning new words!                  

Vocabulary Parade at Lakewood Park Elementary

Lakewood Park Elementary students and staff showcased vocabulary words in our Vocabulary Parade during Spirit Week. Students were able to create posters and/or costumes representing a word they learned during the first nine weeks. An abundance of creativity was on display as students shared their costumes on stage during lunchtime in the cafeteria. This was a fun opportunity for students to share new learning.

Vocabulary Parade at Floresta Elementary

Students at Floresta Elementary participated in a vocabulary parade showcasing their knowledge of vocabulary words they have read. The whole school paraded down the halls dressed as their favorite vocabulary word. Vocabulary is Fun at Lawnwood Elementary School

K-5 Lawnwood students had a fantastic time participating in the Vocabulary Parade. This event was a wonderful celebration of our love for words and reading. It also provided a fun and academically focused opportunity for students to dress up in creative, homemade costumes. Inspired by Debra Frasier’s book “Miss Alaineus, A Vocabulary Disaster,” the concept made vocabulary learning enjoyable and interactive. During the parade, students wore costumes that illustrated the meaning of specific vocabulary words. Vocabulary Day at Palm Pointe

Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition’s first grade students participated in Vocabulary Day. These proficient pupils transformed into vocabulary words for an audience of perfectly pleased parents. This performance task was a great success as students’ demonstrated understanding of tier 2 vocabulary, an essential skill for comprehension of complex text. Palm Pointe’s first graders are feeling fabulous about their foundation in reading! Visiting baseball team inspires C. A. Moore students

The faculty, staff and students at C.A. Moore Elementary School gave a warm Florida welcome to the Worcester Academy baseball team from Worcester, Massachusetts. This is the third year the team has visited C.A. Moore Elementary. The team donates supplies and books to the school on each visit, and this year presented the school with a video camera. The players read to the students and spent time in the classrooms motivating the students to do well in school. “Visions of Peace”

In early October, Lincoln Park Academy middle school art students participated in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest which is sponsored by Lions Clubs around the world. This art contest encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. For more than 25 years, millions of children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest. The theme of the 2015-2016 Peace Poster Contest was “Share Peace.” Thirty-three students, ages 11, 12 or 13, were selected to showcase their work in Art Mundo, a local gallery/workshop located in beautiful downtown Fort Pierce, 111 Orange Avenue. Vision Partnership Project Helps Our Students

The ESE Department of St. Lucie Public Schools recently hosted a free vision clinic as part of the Florida Low Vision Initiative (FLVI) Clinic. This is an annual opportunity for students who have been evaluated and meet the criteria for initial or continued placement in the Visually Impaired Program under Exceptional Student Education.  “Great value rests in these evaluations which are important in order to update low vision devices and to track visual changes,” explained Maria Benham, program specialist for visually impaired. Virtual Math Scavenger Hunt at CAST

Ms. Voke’s virtual 3rd grade class from CAST explored ways to find examples of math outside the actual math book.  They used magazines, newspapers, ads from the mail and any other resource they had in their home to complete a scavenger hunt of pictures of “math items.”  They created their template from folded paper and copied the items to be placed on the scavenger hunt page.  Some items for their search included examples of a bar graph, an analog clock, a quadrilateral, a fraction, and an item used to measure liquid or mass. Virtual Fun with Literacy Week!

To celebrate literacy at Mosaic Digital Academy, 5th-grade students in Mrs. Mimnaugh’s class put “Hats on for Reading”, while 2nd graders in Mrs. Lankow’s class dressed up as their favorite word for “Vocabulary Day”. Students also participated in read-aloud sessions and brought out the “Virtual Red Carpet”, wearing red in class to be “Well Read”. Awesome job Owls! #virtualfun #literacyweek

Virtual Connections Across the U.S. at Morningside Elementary

Students in Mrs. Eibl and Mrs. Moore’s class joined a Teams virtual call with a third grade class in Washington state. Both classes read “A Fine, Fine School” and participated in a chat with each other about the similarities and differences among our schools and classrooms. What a great experience for our Blue Jays!  

Virtual CAST Leader of the Month

CAST hosted its premier virtual Leader of the Month ceremony to recognize students nominated for exhibiting the leadership trait of being “balanced,” part of Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw. Though we weren’t able to meet in person, we organized a ceremony in our virtual auditorium which included a musical performance by one of our students and each leader was individually recognized by Dr. Reid. Certificates were also mailed home. Congratulations again to all of our Leaders of the Month!
