Kindergarteners and first graders in Mrs. Roberts’ class paired up virtually with students at Dale Cassens to buddy read Dr. Seuss books. Students met up using TEAMS. At CAST, we foster our love for reading early!

VIPs Read to Manatee Academy Students

VIP readers visited several classes for our Dr. Seuss Day on March 2nd. Media Specialist Debbie Remington organized this event in which our “VIPs” read to our students and engaged in meaningful conversations about what they read. Students and staff were appreciative of the VIP guests who took time to read with them and celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday. “The more that you read, the more things you will know. Congratulations to the Village Green Environmental Studies School Young Authors winners! VGESS is so proud of the creativity and effort our students have put into this contest, and we can’t wait to celebrate our winners. Village Green’s Trunk or Treat and Boo Bash

Village Green hosted their annual Trunk or Treat and Boo Bash event this past Friday! Students and their families had a great time celebrating this event. Thank you to the wonderful PBIS team at Village Green for putting on an unforgettable experience for our students, complete with a DJ and Haunted Hallway!

Village Green’s Testing Pep Rally

Village Green Environmental Studies School hosted a super fun pep rally to encourage students to try their best during testing season! Our amazing 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade teachers went above and beyond to celebrate our students’ hard work as we gear up for our last FAST testing of the school year. To cheer them on, we hosted a spirited Race to Success event—and let’s just say, it was full of smiles, cheers, and Manatee fun! We’re so proud of our students and all their effort, and we can’t wait to watch them ROCK the test! Go World Changers!    

Village Green’s Student Council Representatives

5th graders at Village Green Environmental Studies School rallied together to elect their Student Council representatives last week. We had an eventful week with students showcasing their creativity with posters and delivering inspiring speeches to their peers. Village Green strives to give our students the opportunities to develop leadership skills. Our student council representatives will be able to organize school activities and service projects and plan events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare. Village Green’s PBIS Neon Dance

Village Green Elementary School’s PBIS Committee hosted a Neon Dance for students and their families on Friday evening. Students who met PBIS expectations for the 3rd quarter enjoyed a dance party complete with DJ T&T, black lights, face painting and yummy snacks! Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible! Our Village Green Families had a wonderful time!

Village Green’s PBIS Carnival

Village Green’s spectacular PBIS team hosted their annual End of Year Carnival for students who displayed positive behavior and met the school-wide PBIS expectations throughout the school year. Students and their families enjoyed an afternoon filled with bounce houses, interactive games, an obstacle course, dunk tanks, and even a petting zoo! Principal, Mrs. Boria was in the dunk tank, and Assistant Principal, Mrs. Drost was voted by students to get pied in the face. It was a fun event and we are so happy to be able to celebrate the end of a successful year!

In honor of Black History Month, Village Green Environmental Studies School students brought history to life during our “Night at the Black History Museum” event. This event was a night to remember giving families an opportunity to learn about black history. Our Black History event was an evening of celebrating the legacy, culture, and contributions of Black pioneers! Village Green’s Media Specialist

Village Green’s Librarian, Janet Sievers, along with Librarians from around the county attended FAME-Florida’s Association for Media in Education.  This is Florida’s State Conference for Media Specialists.  FAME celebrated its 50th conference and it did not disappoint.  There were inspiring keynote speakers and many authors celebrating reading and sharing thoughts, ideas, experiences, and words of encouragement.  There were SSYRA authors who traveled from places as far away as California and overseas such as Cyprus.  Several sessions were offered and attended. We are so proud of our Media Specialist for continuing to learn and grow for her students!

Village Green’s Librarian, Janet Sievers, joined with others from across our district to attend the national school library conference in Tampa. It was exciting to meet people from around the country and learn how the library systems are run in all kinds of school districts.  One of the first sessions was a discussion with librarians from Tampa as well as North Dakota.  They were also able to meet up with New York Times best-selling author James Ponti who was also in attendance.

Village Green’s Math Masters Tournament

Village Green Environmental Studies fourth graders participated in a fun Math Masters Tournament on Friday, May 16th to help them get ready for their state math exams coming up! This fun and interactive math practice session challenged the fourth graders to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills in mathematics. Village Green’s Literacy Week

Village Green Elementary School had some special guest readers this week! Thank you to the Port St. Lucie Fire Department and Police Department for taking time out of their busy schedules to read to our students this week. Our students enjoyed their time with all of the volunteers who visited their classrooms and read to them. Our students also got to enjoy the nice weather and read outside with their friends throughout Literacy Week!

The VGESS Girls on The Run Team had an amazing 5k event on Saturday! A huge thank you to our amazing VGESS coaches – Coach Latowski, Mrs. Hood, Mrs. Collins, Mrs. Scimeca, and Dr. Venzen – for their dedication and enthusiasm in leading our girls! Village Green’s Garden Community Event

VGESS hosted a fabulous Garden Community Event over the weekend, where Village Green families, faculty and staff, and community members came together to help rebuild our beautiful garden. Volunteers helped with cutting branches, planting new trees, and creating paths for students to explore the garden. A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who came out to support our efforts to revitalize the garden.  We also donated over 40 banana trees and plants. Village Green’s Garden

Village Green’s garden is getting their students excited about eating fresh, local produce. Starfruit was the first fruit harvested this school year and the kids were able to enjoy this special treat at lunch. Students will be able to get a hands-on experience growing healthy food this year and tasting the benefits!

Village Green’s Fun Science Mini Lab

A mini study focusing on natural selection and competition was carried out in Dr. Venzen’s 5th-grade Science classroom. The characteristic that student scientists explored was adaptation. Upcoming scientists were made aware that adaptation to an environment is not solely based on the seasons. The food items students used were black beans, popcorn seed, lima beans, small red beans, and large red beans. The food items were first distributed, and then students were randomly given their beak utensils. Students quickly realize the quantity of food they would be able to gather based on their beaks. Village Green’s Fifth-Grade Scientists

Dr. Jacqueline Venzen and Dr. Thomas Gay facilitated another learning lab for fifth-grade students at Village Green Environmental Studies School.   Students have been learning about physical properties, mixtures, solutions, substances, magnetism, and other matter-related science topics. Village Green’s Color Fun Run Fundraiser

Village Green Environmental Studies School’s PBIS team held their annual Color Fun Run this past Saturday, April 12th. Students had the opportunity to raise funds that will help Village Green create Building Thinking Classrooms to help enhance student engagement. Additionally, the PBIS team aims to support student incentives that encourage positive behavior and staff incentives to foster a strong, positive school culture. Village Green’s Back To School Luau

Village Green’s PBIS team held a Back to School Luau for students to encourage positive behavior this school year. Students and staff were able to enjoy fun games, music, photo opportunities, and Kona Ice!
