MySchool 2nd Grade Class at Oak Hammock K-8 Used Project Based Learning to Commemorate 9/11

Mrs. Aristide’s Second Grade MySchool students at Oak Hammock K-8, enhanced their understanding of Citizenship and Government through Project Based Learning (PBL) by honoring 9/11. Mrs. Aristide, encouraged the students to explore: What is the significance of American Symbols? Students researched, selected and gathered data about their American Symbol. This PBL assignment challenged students to ask, collect, visualize, and create independently. Students gained insight on the importance and historical significance of their American Symbol by creating and presenting a project board. Remembering 9/11: Iconic American Symbols

“My Life in Symbols”: Fort Pierce Central High School Drawing Students Honor Keith Haring’s Legacy

  Inspired by Keith Haring’s style and influence, Drawing 2 students at Fort Pierce Central completed murals and t-shirts with their own symbols representing their life. Keith Haring commented on themes that were relevant to New York City’s fluidity in the 1960’s, such as teen drug use, greed, and building a community. Students picked themes that were broad enough to be felt collectively, such as power, tragedy, or control.  Students drew inspiration from their own personal experiences to make their symbols personal to them, while still executing them simply, consistent with Haring’s style.     Keith Haring changed the art … Read More

My Favorite Character, Pumpkin Style, at Oak Hammock K-8

Students in Ms. Pelchat’s InD homeroom class at Oak Hammock K-8, decided to enhance their book report project by creating a pumpkin character book report. Each student used a pumpkin to recreate their favorite character from a book they read in class. Students identified the character, character traits and designed a pumpkin to be reflective of their character. Students were given the opportunity to present their project and share what they learned about the character to their peers.

Music in our Schools Month was founded 1n 1973 by the National Association for Music Education. Musical Collaboration with Westwood & CAST

Westwood Band & Eurhythmics students performed at CAST as students arrived on campus. This collaboration encourages students to utilize Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind, as several students graduated from CAST. The connection between MSAP schools also focuses on one of the MSAP Pillars – family and community partnerships.

Music with Mr. Evans at Mariposa Elementary

Mariposa Elementary music students have been participating in creative musical activities and competitive games that help promote music literacy. For the month of November, students have been focused on developing their rhythm skills. From keeping a steady beat in kindergarten to freestyling over rap beats in fifth grade, students are mastering how sound works together with time to create music. Mr. Evans, Mariposa’s new music teacher, incorporates a fall theme in each lesson to increase student engagement and enjoyment. Music support foundation presents student with gift from anonymous donor

The Bluebird Educational Productions (BEP) organization which supports music education and appreciation in St. Lucie Public Schools recently received an anonymous donation from a local patron so that a deserving student could have a instrument of their own to pursue their love of music and perform in their school’s band and music programs. Cole Maxwell of Lincoln Park Academy was selected to receive a new alto saxophone courtesy of the donation. Chorus and band students from across the school district performed in spectacular fashion for a full house at the Fenn Center in Fort Pierce. As part of the annual Music In Our Schools celebration, students are specially selected from among St. Lucie Public Schools’ middle and high school band and chorus programs. Multicultural holiday event celebrated at Palm Pointe

First grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently performed a multicultural holiday event for families. The students sang songs from different countries, such as Jingle Bells and Feliz Navidad which were led by music director Christine Hill. After the performance, the families were able to sample foods from many different countries and enjoy the company of families and friends. It was a great learning experience for all!

MSE Young Authors Share Stories and Snacks

In Mrs. Eibl’s 2nd-grade class at Morningside Elementary, a group of young authors gathered to share the fruits of their creativity. Each student took turns reading their original stories aloud, capturing the attention and imagination of their peers. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and encouragement as characters sprang to life through their words. Morningside Elementary School students are charged for their trip to Washington, D.C. as the Florida Elementary School of the Year for Energy Achievement. The National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project selected Morningside Elementary as the Florida Elementary School of the Year and National Elementary School Runner-up.   NEED encourages and rewards student leadership and innovation by sponsoring a Youth Awards Program for Energy Achievement. During the past six weeks, MSE students received direction from PSLHS drama students. A love for literacy was promoted through a passion for the fine arts.
