Fourth grade reviewed skills to rock the FSA with the 2nd annual Glow Day! The kids had a blast glowing while reviewing all they have learned this year. We can’t wait for them to “glow” when they show what they know on the FSA!! ?
First grade had a Poetry Café! Each student in the class was able to get on stage and read aloud a poem of their choosing. We were lucky enough to have so many wonderful spectators observe all our hard work. Thank you to all that came to share in our special moments!
FPC Poison Pens Win AGAIN! Fort Pierce Central’s Poison Pens won first place in the state during Jason Taylor’s Louder Than a Bomb Spoken Word Poetry Slam! This is the second time they have taken home the top prize. We are very proud of our poets: Laura Eugene, Trinity Scott, Emerson Dent, Alli Smith, Jay Valentin, and Taylor Prescott!!! The National Energy Education Development (NEED) project congratulated Morningside Elementary for an outstanding energy education project and selected our school as the Florida School of the Year. The mission of the NEED project is to promote an energy conscious and educated society by creating networks of students, teachers, educators, and business, government, and community leaders to design and deliver objective, multi-sided energy education programs. Fifth graders completed a project that included learning and teaching others about the science of energy. Students hosted an energy expo at the Earth Day festival at the Oxbow center last weekend.
Mariposa Elementary recently held pep rallies for their third, fourth, and fifth graders. Mrs. Whitaker and Ms. Patton led the group with several cheers. Kindergarten, first, and second graders showed their support with posters and cards, and teachers prepared skits and cheers as well.
Family, friends, former students, and colleagues through the years, gathered to honor Mr. Jim LeBon and celebrate his 40 years of service as a band director at his annual Spring Band Concert. The evening began with a surprise reception with family, friends, and colleagues as well as performances in the courtyard by Port St. Lucie High School and Treasure Coast High School bands, where many of his former band students are now in attendance. Lincoln Park Academy Students4H2O celebrate Earth Day 2022 at their new garden plot at the Fort Pierce Community Garden! Having this plot not only aligns with the United Nations missions of Global Goal 13: Climate Action and Global Goal 15: Life on Land, but allows Students4H2O members to have hands-on interactions with their environment. On Friday, April 22nd, 2022, Mosaic Digital Academy 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students participated in the school’s first annual Field Day event. Teachers, students, and families gathered at McChesney Park to participate in Earth Day-themed events such as the Water Savers Race, Save the Endangered Wood Stork Egg Challenge, and the Pizza Box Recycle Relay. Field Day classics like the Potato Sac and Wheelbarrow Races were also entertaining and competitive challenges for owl students. At Samuel Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies, early release means “Stop and STEM Day”, where ALL students look forward to participating in fun STEM activities. This month’s theme was ESCAPE ROOMS. Each grade level was given escape room materials that were designed specifically for the students to be successful, yet required problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Ms. La Bare’s students loved being included in solving problems, puzzles, riddles, and codes to discover the pirates lost treasure! To top it off, the students made pirate hats and eye patches to get into the spirit of the day.

National History Day is a historical research project that allows for a creative display of research, based on the theme of Debate and Diplomacy. 8th grader Kaleel Dennis was selected to move on to the Florida National History Day competition. Kaleel submitted a paper on “The Politics of the Reconstruction Era”.

At Mariposa Elementary, Ms. Mackenzie Buck’s 3rd grade class scientifically explored a sink or float experiment! The students were discovering how much mass their boat could hold! It was a great day to test their hypothesis and collect data.
Middle school students from St. Lucie Public Schools attended a virtual field trip for Criminal Justice without leaving their campus. The virtual field trip was hosted by Ms. Mildred Brown and the Career & Technical Education department on the campus of Fort Pierce Westwood Academy: The WEST Prep Magnet. The virtual field trip included a demonstration of crime scene investigation, fingerprinting, and the 911 Telecommunications training. Virtual field trips allow middle school students to explore CTE programs for career exploration initiatives.

Physics and Geometry are alive and well in the Art turned STEAM studio! Juniors Hannah Trigg, (Ceramics III) and Vanessa Niederhofer (Ceramics II) preform a Laminar Flow Pour test with clay teapots. Hannah, on the left, created her traditional Japanese-style teapot and lid on the pottery wheel.
