Engineering in Kindergarten at Morningside

At Morningside Elementary, teachers teach the engineering design process beginning in Kindergarten. These students in Mrs. Spurr’s MTSS stem group used materials to try to build the tallest tower that could stand on its own! 😍 By working with others, and thinking outside of the box, these amazing bluejays designed and then redesigned until they arrived at a winning structure.  The winner was a structure that was 18 inches tall!

SLWCHS’s Criminal Justice Students visit Keiser University

On February 14th, St. Lucie West Centennial Criminal Justice students attended Keiser University.  Speakers included program directors, professors, a current student, and even the university president.  Students learned about the criminal justice and legal studies programs offered at Keiser and the unique way that students take classes and earn their degrees at the Port St. Lucie campus. VGE’s Safety Patrol

The Village Green Safety Patrol members have been doing a fantastic job exhibiting leadership throughout our school. Mrs. Bergerman selected certain fifth-grade students for the Safety Patrol Program back in August and they have helped with many things around campus, including raising the flag, keeping an eye to make sure students remain safe, and assisting with morning drop off and afternoon pickup. Thank you to Mrs. Bergerman for leading this program and to our Safety Patrol members for being exemplary students, we appreciate your hard work and leadership!

Everglades Coin Challenge

Gold status Everglades champion school, Morningside Elementary, had a school-wide contest where students were asked to research an Everglades animal and plant and submit a design for the annual Everglades Coin Challenge. The school-based Everglades Committee had a challenging time choosing the winners. The winning submissions from each grade group are shown. The winning design will be made into an actual coin to be given to the Everglades Champion schools in the future. Way to lead the way, BlueJays!

Readers are Leaders at Floresta

Floresta Dolphins participate in a weekly Reading Challenge.  For each book they read students submit a one-sentence summary to enter a weekly drawing.  On Friday afternoons two lucky readers per grade level win a prize. Keep on reading Dolphins!

Daddy/Daughter Dance at Oak Hammock K8

Kindergarten, First, and Second-grade girls at Oak Hammock K8 invited their dads to the Daddy/Daughter Dance that was held in the school’s cafeteria. They enjoyed pizza, cupcakes, and stencil painting while dancing the night away. Both daughters and dads had a memorable time. A big thank you goes out to the teachers and staff who facilitated this event. Also, thank you to JROTC from Treasure Coast High School for your support.            

Everglades Literacy at Lakewood Park

Lakewood Park Elementary fifth-grade students are working hard on their endangered species activity. They enjoyed conducting research on the Everglades’ threatened or endangered species and created posters to inform others about their chosen species. This is just one way that Lakewood Park is integrating Everglades literacy into the curriculum and working towards becoming an Everglades Champion School!

Centennial Marine Program Meets with Advisory Board

St. Lucie West Centennial High School’s Outboard Marine Service Program teacher met with his Advisory Board. Local marine industry members virtually met with Mr. Bob Kachanis to collaborate on classroom projects and industry needs. More meetings and activities are planned. Third Grade goes Wild at Morningside

Third-grade students at Morningside Elementary visited WILD Florida near Orlando. They observed the characteristics of different animals and compared their observations to their learning from science class. Students enjoyed their time “going wild” with friends and animals.

Palm Pointe Jazz Band Receives Superior Rating

Congratulations to the Palm Pointe Jazz Band on their Superior performance at the Florida Bandmasters Association District 13 Music Performance Assessment. They were the only Middle School Band to achieve this honor! We are so proud of them and their conductor, Mr. Jason Hatfield!

Career & Technical Education Entrepreneurship Mentors, #CTEmonth

Career & Technical Education (CTE) teacher, Mrs. Jasmine Shepherd, lead teacher for the Sports, Recreation & Marketing program at Port St. Lucie High School, is strengthening her students’ connection to community and business experts. Another Victory for PSL JROTC

Another Victory for Port St. Lucie High School JROTC On Saturday, February 10th, the Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion competed against 8 other schools in a Drill competition held at Jupiter High School in Jupiter, Florida. The events our Female and Male Teams competed in were Unarmed/Armed Squad, Color Guard, and Solo/Duo Exhibition drill. PSL placed 1st in Female Armed and Unarmed Squad, 1st in Female Color Guard, 1st in Female Solo Exhibition, and 1st in Female Dual Exhibition. Problem Solving Sharks

SLWK8 eighth-grade students in Mrs. Boham’s STEM class explored creative problem-solving by using limited resources to create a paper pallet to hold the most books. They could only use 3 sheets of paper and 10 cm of tape to complete the project. The students were able to support 39 books equaling 156 pounds. Way to problem-solve, Sharks!
