The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Raider team competed in South Fork’s Raider Competition against 17 teams from 7 other schools. The competition consisted of five events: 3 mile team run, Cross Country Rescue, The Raider Fitness Challenge, 200lb tire flip over a 100 meter course, and the One-Rope Bridge event.  Before the Cross Country Rescue everyone takes a written first aid test, during the event the team simulates a casualty by carrying an 80-120lb stretcher over a mile long course while wearing three 30lb ruck sacks.  To complete the Raider Fitness Challenge the team must go through a … Read More

Indian River State College Volleyball Team volunteered to read with kindergarten students at C.A. Moore Elementary thanks to Head Coach Stephanie Skidmore and Assistant Coach Aubree Parker. Coach Aubree Parker is also the P.E. Teacher at C.A. Moore Elementary.

Students in Mrs. Alice Parks’ first grade class at Frances K. Sweet worked on composing two-dimensional shapes.  The shapes were: rectangles, squares, trapezoids, and triangles.  The students created a composite shape using pretzels and marshmallows as their manipulatives.  The students enjoyed eating their shapes after making them. Students in Mrs. Stacey Johnson’s Second Grade Enrichment group created a class diorama of the layers of the Tropical Rain Forest. Students each contributed two animals with fact cards to the class project. Pictured from the left are Arianne Reif, Addison Burgess, and Dylan Gould.

On September 30, Bayshore Elementary welcomed fathers and male role models to observe the Dads Take Your Child to School Day. The media center received 120 fathers and male role models representing 146 students, or 20% of the student body, who were greeted by the school administrators and teachers. During the event, fathers and male role models participated in the signing of the pledge as a demonstration of their commitment to their children’s education. Fathers were also invited and encouraged to participate in future Dads Take Your Child to School Day events.

Meteorologist Cris Martinez from WPBF News brought Weather School to Morningside Elementary School this week. The forecast was bright and sunny for learning! Thank you Cris!

One of the 5th grade classes at Rivers Edge Elementary celebrated World of Bullying Prevention Day by defining characteristics of a bully, what measures students can take to prevent bullying, and what students can do if they see bullying within their school and community. Each student took a stand against bullying by sharing one way they can “STOMP OUT BULLYING.”

On Wednesday, September 20, 2015, the Fort Pierce Central High JROTC Cobra Battalion continued their commitment to a cleaner environment. More than 70 students headed out with pokers and garbage bags to clean up on South 25th Street. The Cobra Battalion has participated in the “Adopt-A-Road” program for many years cleaning up the section of South 25th Street between Midway Road north to Bell Avenue. After picking-up numerous bags of garbage and making the road cleaner, the Cobra Battalion headed back to the school to enjoy an afternoon bar-b-que and fellowship.

Earning the highest scores in the county on the 5th Grade Science portion of the FCAT last year is not slowing down Rivers Edge from striving to continue their long tradition in the study of science. Recently, one of Rivers Edge Elementary’s 5th grade classes explored how sound energy can be transferred to different objects.

St. Lucie West Centennial High School baseball players visited Mrs. Yancy’s first grade class at St. Lucie West K-8 School recently. The players introduced themselves to the students and read a book to them. Afterward, students asked questions about being a baseball player and what it was like over at the “big school” (SLWCHS). The players seemed to enjoy themselves and our first graders were ecstatic to meet the “big boys”! The baseball players will be returning next month for an interview session, where the first graders will interview the players.

Weatherbee Elementary invited fathers and male caregivers to come back to school! On September 30, fathers and male caregivers were encouraged to take their child to school, sign a pledge of involvement, and demonstrate the value of being involved in their child’s education.  It was a BANNER DAY at Weatherbee!  Pictured are Jahson Nelson and his grandfather.

Go Team, Go!!! There was a lot to cheer about during Mariposa’s PBIS Wear Your Favorite Sport Shirt or Jersey Day. It was a grand slam! For 10 Butterfly Bucks, students could wear their favorite sports team shirt or jersey to school. There was no fumbling with that as many excited students wore their shirts proudly. As a plus, teachers and staff could also wear their favorite sports team shirt or jersey to school. We saw many Mariposa students proud and excited to have taken part in this event.
