Literacy at Mariposa Elementary

Literacy Week was a success! Students participated in daily Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R.) time. Students got cozy with a good book! Pictured are Cameron Wright, Josue Ajucum, and Abigail Santiago.

We also had first grade teddy bear picnics, a third grade vocabulary parade, fourth grade guest readers, as well as “Going Bananas for Reading” and book exchanges at Mariposa.

Mrs. Delancy’s third grade class also met up with Mrs. Smith’s second graders to read books and create bookmarks for literacy week! Students in those classes communicate with each other regularly through pen pal letters and activities each month. “Having older students to mentor my second graders is wonderful! My students are more motivated to check their work and make sure it includes adjectives and details! We are so thankful for Mrs. Delancy and her amazing class,” said Mrs. Michelle Smith, second grade teacher.
