LUCIE COUNTY -State Representative Larry Lee was present at Tuesday night’s St. Lucie Public Schools Board meeting to accept an original artistic rendering from Palm Pointe seventh grader Kimberly Quigley. LUCIE COUNTY – St. Lucie Public Schools boasts a thirty percent increase in the number of schools recognized with Model School status for Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS).  The University of South Florida (USF), manager of the PBIS Project for the State of Florida, provided District personnel with notification of this prestigious distinction.   PBIS is a school-wide behavioral approach that focuses on increasing academic performance and increasing safety while decreasing problem behaviors with specific and consistent strategies.  A focus on individual needs using data along with positive and effective strategies are also key elements to a successful … Read More

After difficult and complex work for several years, our school has achieved the highest status awarded to a school. PTO recently honored teachers and staff with a beautifully orchestrated holiday luncheon. The ladies served teachers and staff a lovely chicken parmesan dinner that included ziti, salad, rolls, and desserts catered by Big Apple Pizza. LUCIE COUNTY – What started out as a small packing party for approximately 150 meals to support students and families in need turned into a holiday wish-come-true as donations poured in to accommodate over 300 meals. The St. Lucie Public Schools District Office Events Committee in conjunction with Grace Packs, Pan Florida Challenge for Hungry Kids, and St. Lucie County Fire District packed over 4,000 pounds of food into weekend packs on Tuesday in preparation for deliveries prior to the holiday break. “Each year our Grace Packs December food drive campaign provides a boost for the Organization’s ability to … Read More

Cadets from Fort Pierce Westwood High School recently traveled to Cape Canaveral to learn about an ongoing scientific project. Cadets spent the morning with Dr. Deborah Gordon and Kurt Leucht understanding their studies of the foraging and communications algorithms of ants and how these algorithms have been converted into software that will be used for the search robots that will roam the planet Mars during the Mars missions in 2030. In the spirit of the holiday season, SLW Centennial’s National Honor Society partners up with the St. Lucie County Guardian Ad Litem’s office to collect toys for local area children in need.  

On Friday, December 9th, the Lincoln Park Academy Concert Chorale participated in Disney’s Candlelight Processional which was held at Epcot Center. The Candlelight Processional tells the story of Christmas in words and music including a mass choir joined by a 50-piece live orchestra and a guest celebrity narrator. The guest celebrity narrator for this evening was Anthony Mackie who played the Marvel Superhero Falcon in the movie Captain America: Civil War. This is the Lincoln Park Academy Concert Chorale’s 10th consecutive year being selected to participate in this very prestigious event.      

The Lincoln Park Academy Key Club participated for the first time in the City of Fort Pierce “A Cattleman’s Christmas Parade.” The Sunrise Kiwanis Club sponsored and provided a small trailer along with a 1949 vintage tractor.  The members worked very hard to build a float. Forty-two students walked behind the float and represented the newly reinstated club and our Greyhound pride.          

In the spirit of the season, students and staff made a joyful noise filling the hallways and classrooms of St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) as the Education Foundation of St. Lucie County and SLPS administrators surprised the three finalists for School Related Employee of the Year on Friday.  Juana Garcia (Mariposa Elementary), Dawn Parker (Dan McCarty Middle School), and Natasha Ramos (Oak Hammock K-8) will represent the District as this year’s finalists. Mariposa Elementary celebrated its PBIS by having a Pokemon Day. Students paid 20 Butterfly Bucks to participate in Pokemon Day where they created a unique Pokemon with special powers and a Poke-Ball and then played charades as they became a Pokemon. Maurice Johnson and Tristan Coe are working hard to create their Pokemon. Jha’keriah Galloway, Brianna Granja, and Beverly Garay are discussing their Pokemon with each other. On December 3, 2016, Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition celebrated its annual Breakfast with Santa.  The event was a huge success with families enjoying a delicious pancake breakfast, kids making holiday crafts, a face painting booth, raffles, pictures with Santa, and holiday songs performed by Mrs. Melanie Larsen and Mrs. Deborrah Estrada. It was a great time to relax with Palm Pointe families and staff at the beginning of the holiday season.  Pictured are Mrs. Luv Lima and her two sons, seventh grader Marcos Lima, fifth grader Rio Lima, and  many other families in the background.

National Beta is committed to recognizing high academic achievement, rewarding and nurturing worthy character, fostering leadership skills, and encouraging service to others. Last week students from Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition’s Beta Club were building on the school’s tradition of excellence by attending their first State Beta Convention in Orlando. Students went above and beyond by competing in eight different areas against other Florida Beta members. In Division I Robotics: Nico Tovar, Estaban Gomes Lopez, Ava Borgella, and Newman Crews received 1st Place. Mrs. Patrick’s 2nd grade class was visited by Superintendent E. Wayne Gent! He read them a wonderful Christmas story entitled Christmas City by Michael Garland. The students thanked him with a present of their own — new socks! Mr. Gent promptly put them on and wore them with pride! Thank you, Mr. Gent, for a wonderful visit!  

Each month Lakewood Park Elementary celebrates students with attendance awards.  These students are present every day of the month, arrive on time, and complete the school day.  They receive a special treat each month as well as a certificate of recognition. This month they walked away with a handmade bracelet to remind them of their dedication.  Way to go, Falcons!

Manatee Academy’s monthly SUNDAY BRUNCH had a special guest for December. The Big Guy himself Ho-Ho-Ho’ed his way into the library and children were treated to something better than candy canes from Santa — free, brand new books TO KEEP! Families also enjoyed Mrs. Remington’s world-famous chocolate-chip pancakes after snapping pictures with bigger-than-life holiday characters, singing Christmas carols, and checking out up to 10 books!
