At Mariposa Elementary, several people donated rocks to encourage and inspire Ms. Erica Morales’ students to do well on their Math FSA. She hid the rocks around her classroom the day of the Math FSA. The students were surprised and went on a rock hunt. They had a blast!  The rocks were meant to inspire the students to do their best. Members of the LPA Health Occupations Students of America, or HOSA Club, attended the 2017 State Leadership Conference in Orlando between April 7th and April 9th.  The Club was represented by Kassandra Sanz (senior),  Adriana Sanz (sophomore), Diana Ion (senior), Catiana Romain (senior) , and Club Advisor Mr. Sadlocha.  While there, Kassandra Sanz was recognized as a bronze recipient of the Barbara James Service Award for community service and for placing 10th overall in the Healthcare Issues exam.  In addition, Adriana Sanz placed 2nd overall in the Courtesy Corps volunteer category and received recognition for her contributions to HOSA Happenings, … Read More

Student art is blossoming in Fort Pierce. As the project continues to grow throughout St. Lucie County, two of the latest utility boxes to boast of artwork by SLPS students can be found near 25th Street and Orange Avenue and Indian River Drive and Citrus Avenue.  The beauty of the artwork spread throughout the county is a joy to behold throughout all of St. Lucie County.

The Change of Command Ceremony is a ceremony to pass the command from the current Battalion Commander to the incoming Battalion Commander. Northport teachers are participating in an intensive book study led by Assistant Principal Meghan Drost using Engaging Students with Poverty in Mind. Teachers are learning and putting into action steps for making the teaching and learning experiences more real and authentic for our Title 1 school and for our students. “When teaching in a Title 1 school, every single weakness that a teacher has is exposed. Assistant Principal Jane Cox dances with kindergarten students for their monthly PBIS event.  Students who earned enough Class Dojo points through positive behavior, attended a dance and enjoyed showing off their best moves.

Arielle Fountain represented Fort Pierce Westwood in Gainesville at the FFA Agriculture Education Career Development Event (CDE) and placed in the top six to advance to the State contest in June! Arielle developed a lesson plan, taught UF professors, and took a written test on the standards she was assigned to teach! She plans to major in Ag Ed at the University of Florida, and is off to a great start!

Manatee K-8 Academy showed up with a spirited team to support Autism Awareness during April’s Charity Flag Football event. Go team!

The SLWK-8 My School Color Run sponsored by the Student Council was a huge success! Thank you everyone for your participation! Special thanks for Ms. Renee Taylor, Mrs. Shawna Portee, and Dean Lauren Kosinski for their hard work in organizing this event. Everyone had a colorful time!

DCEC hosted a THANK YOU luncheon for community members.  Members from Kiwanis, Health Department, Restoring the Village, Concetta Viggiano Parry Foundation, and Appreciation Financial participated.  The Kiwanis donated $1,000 and Concetta Viggiano Parry Foundation donated $800 to the school’s Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports Program. For both organizations, these donations are annual contributions for which the school is most thankful. According to Principal Harden, one of the luncheon guests indicated that his neighbor attends DCEC and he has seen a great difference in his behavior in the neighborhood since attending the school.
