Northport welcomed five local veterans into the school media center recently to honor Veterans Day and to teach students about words with very important meanings like service, sacrifice, integrity, grit, education and commitment. The group of veterans are an integral part of the fabric of Northport and they bring their very important message to the children of the school regularly. Educators coming together to help educators is the underlying theme of this year’s annual West Gate K8 Hispanic Heritage Festival and Fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, November 18th on the school’s campus located at 1050 NW Cashmere Blvd. in Port Saint Lucie. Community members are invited to enjoy music, games, live performances, and a variety of food from 1PM to 5PM. Many schools in Puerto Rico were left in ruins as a result of the devastating winds and rain from Hurricane Maria. On Saturday November 11, test drive a new Buick and help St. Lucie West Centennial High School located at 1485 Cashmere Boulevard in Port St. Lucie receive up to $10,000. Garber Buick GMC in Ft. Pierce will have new Buick vehicles at the school for this Test Drive Event from 8:00am-3:00pm. For each 2-3 minute Test Drive, Buick will donate $10.00. When the event exceeds 100 test drives, Buick will double the donation to $20.00. The goal is to reach the maximum donation of $10,000 for the day! White City Elementary is partnering with the community. The residents of the Lake Forest Park Villa Association provided a lobster dinner to support White City Elementary School. A special thank you goes out to the Lake Forest Park Villa Association for supporting White City Elementary. Proceeds will be used to purchase school supplies for the teachers and students of White City Elementary.
Southport Middle School’s sixth grade students enjoyed an engaging, positive, and busy day at our annual Sixth Grade Student Retreat. This year’s theme was respect. To begin the day, students met in the gym to give each other positive affirmations in an unusual game of “musical” chairs. They were then split into small groups with adult team leaders and sent out to participate in various team building activities throughout the day to play games and take part in small group discussions. Caroline Duran, Art Teacher at Lincoln Park Academy has once again qualified as a Florida Art Education Association (FAEA) Member Virtual Exhibition Winner. Ms. Duran was recognized by the FAEA and her peers at this year’s conference held at the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts on October 18th, where she received the Pacon Award for her entry, “Terra Nova,” a ceramic sculpture surfaced with acrylic paint. The Palm Pointe Jazz Band had the privilege to play at the opening of the Paula A. Lewis Library on Rosser Blvd. The students were excited to perform for the mayor, city council members, library staff, and the visiting public.

Tiffany Tredor, 5th grade Rising Stars teacher, Lorri Lamm, second grade teacher along with NP Media Specialist, Lynne Gruszka are enjoying a priceless friendship and an admiration for colleagues that is not often replicated. October was National Bullying Prevention Month, and PSLHS Jaguars joined the movement to STOMP out BULLYING. Students will continue to take a stand against bullying!
Students in Andrea Logue’s fifth grade science class at Bayshore Elementary explored sound energy last week. They used tuning forks to investigate how sound is produced by vibrations. Then students were challenged to use those vibrations to transfer the sound energy to the ping-pong ball to make it move. They learned that energy is never used up, but instead it changes form. In this case, sound energy was transformed into mechanical energy. Science comes to life at Bayshore Elementary!

Third grade Rising Star instructor, Lorena Wilson, and her students had a wonderful time celebrating Amelia Bedelia and Her Idioms Day recently. Students and teacher used the lesson as an extension of a study on figurative language. Mrs. Wilson dressed as Amelia Bedelia and students dressed as the literal meaning of idioms that they learned about in class. Students then invited other classes to come into the room and play “Guess the Idiom” game. This year, Northport K-8 School celebrates our 8th annual Unity Day. Students from across the VKP-8 school make posters and banners and march throughout a path pre-marked by our PE coaches.
