All families of White City Elementary were invited to attend Hispanic Heritage Night. Students and parents shopped at the book fair, toured the Hispanic Heritage Gallery, and munched on tacos. It was a fabulous, well attended parent night at WCE.

On Wednesday, October 18th at Port St. Lucie High, the Senior Class of 2018 came together to commemorate their last year as seniors in a senior pinning ceremony. At this year’s ceremony, the graduating class broke the record for having the auditorium brimming with students and supportive parents. St. Lucie County’s Sheriff was the honored guest speaker for this event, and the Jaguar Color guard presented the colors for the Senior Class of 2018.
Northport always commemorates the tragedy of 9/11. Each year, we invite local veterans, first responders, police officers and guest speakers to bring the tragedy of September 11 alive for sixth grade students in a meaningful way. Mrs. Glidden’s first grade class tests the order of their addends in their addition sentences to find out if it changes the sum. The students quickly found out that it did not and engaged in a game of “find your flip flop fact friend” to match their addition sentence with someone else who had their same addends ordered differently.

Grade 5 students of White City Elementary are learning about the states of matter. Mr. Lewis facilitated learning as the students determined if matter can be more than one state at a time. The students discussed properties of matter, made oobleck and slime, and they recorded their observation.
On Saturday, October 14, the Jaguar Battalion hosted a practice meet for the Area 3 Regional competition. With Westwood and Central also participating, the Jaguars still dominated the competition. Although it was the first competition experience of the season, all teams put in their hard work. The Raiders will compete next Saturday at South Fork for the first Raider meet before Area 3.
Northport community is thankful and grateful for the wonderful partnership with First United Methodist Church of Port St. Lucie. Not only do many members of the congregation serve in the school as volunteers and mentors and Rev. Fifth grade students at Allapattah Flats K-8 know all about matter! They used shoe boxes to explore their creative side to display the three states of matter. Students were able to use correct vocabulary and elaboration with their provided “explanation” boxes. Some students showed the particle behavior of states of matter while others showed examples of solids, liquids, and gases. This was an optional extra credit grade and many students participated. Way to go everyone!
Ms. Rovendro’s 4th grade class has been learning about physical and chemical changes in science, and they made slime to illustrate how chemical changes work.
The Port St. Lucie Civic Center hosted the annual College Fair to inform all students and parents about colleges and universities to prepare them for the future. The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar JROTC volunteered to help the colleges, universities, and community supporters set up and prepare for the the event.
Ms. Marino’s RTI group of 2nd graders learned about recycling with Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful last week by finding and picking up items that could be recycled from their school grounds. Thank you to #KPSLB for lending us the grabbers to be used in this lesson.
“Principal Baruti Kafele, my name is Tyler, and it’s important that you know my name.” These were the words of a Palm Pointe middle school student who echoed the heart of the guest speaker’s message to students while shaking hands with the larger-than-life Kafele. On Monday October 9th, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguars went up against the Space Coast Vipers. To kick off the game, the Jaguar Color Guard presented the Colors with Damilola Jolugan and Joleen Kalonaski serving as flag bearers and Hayley Pollard and Marco Narder serving as guards.
On Tuesday, October 4, The National Theatre for Children came to our school and performed for our K-2 students. They performed an energy show sponsored by FPL titled Captain Wattage. Captain Wattage solved the mystery about who was stealing energy. (It was Vivica Voltage!) The boys and girls (and teachers) loved it!
Fort Pierce Westwood Veterinary students were at the St. Lucie International Airport on October 5th to support in the arrival of a plane from Puerto Rico carrying animals in need of homes and care. The veterinary students along with their teacher, Whitney Uribe, helped to unload the animals from the plane, unload them from their carriers for examination, as well as support the veterinarian with their examinations. That support included completing paperwork, getting the medication requested by the vet ready, as well as the vaccines as requested by the vet. Allapattah Flats hosted its annual PBIS BUS DRIVER LUNCHEON on Friday, September 29, 2017. APFK8 served their drivers with great enthusiasm and appreciation for all that they do every day to keep their Gators safe! The drivers enjoyed a special drawing and a delicious lunch along with a lot of laughter and fun! We truly appreciate our APFK8 drivers and supervisors!
John Parker, famous BMX rider, visited White City Elementary. During his presentation, he discussed the spokes of good character, motion, and speed. It was a fun, energizing, and thrilling presentation.
