It’s early morning and Treasure Coast High’s Manufacturing Lab is busy! Mr. Ordonez’s students are working the machines using critical thinking, engaging in teamwork, making connections, and applying classroom lessons to hands-on activities. Awesome things are happening at Treasure Coast High!  Go Titans!   

On December 7, 2018, Port St. Lucie High School’s Army JROTC Battalion’s Raider Team participated in an overnight Wilderness Survival Campout at Camp Tanah Keeta. Cadets who were invited participated in several activities including canoeing, rope bridge, roasting marshmallows by a bonfire, making tin foil meals, and playing team bonding games. Cadets enjoyed hot chocolate and sandwiches for breakfast before cleaning up camp to head home.  

This year’s book fair was a huge success thanks to all the amazing parents, students, teachers and staff who supported the media center for the annual library fundraiser. In cooperation with student-led conferences, we had a wonderful turnout of parents who joined us. Students enjoyed helping create the ambiance of the Enchanted Forest of Books theme, as well as the games and activities tied to the theme. For homework recently, Mrs. Madorma’s Northport fifth grade students taught their parents how to divide fractions using “Keep, Change, Flip!” They then sent their pictures to Mrs. Madorma through Class Dojo. Looks like Math is fun!  

On Saturday December 8, 2018, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion’s Color Guard lead the procession with the National Colors and the Puerto Rican Flag in the 2nd Annual Puerto Rican Day Parade of St. Lucie County. Southport Middle School Heart & Sole team had an exciting day when they joined the remaining girls in the Treasure Coast branch for their Fall 5K Celebration Run. This culminating event followed weeks of practice and life lessons. The girls distributed handmade musical notes, based on their practice 5K run theme, Let the Music Move You. The notes included inspirational messages to girls on the other teams in support of their run. Great job to A’aliyah Ventura, Abbi Cartagena, Chase Justin Brown and Colton Martin for being selected as Northport’s November and December GiveBack2Kids Students of the Month. We celebrate a successful 5K for our Northport middle grades Heart and Sole team! Wonderful job everyone ❤  

Northport culinary students were guests at the Daytona State College culinary competition. The 8th grade culinary students were spectators rooting for St. Lucie West Centennial High School and Fort Pierce Central High School in the culinary competition, waiter relay and edible arrangements competition. This was a great experience for our young chefs.  

Bayshore Elementary School’s kindergarten team received a very special visit from Mrs. Mullan who teaches VPK at the school.  Mrs. Mullan participated in kindergarten’s celebration of Holidays Around the World. She shared the special story of Diwali, brought interesting artifacts, and wore a beautiful cultural dress. Diwali is the five-day festival of lights celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. The festival, which coincides with the Hindu New Year, celebrates new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. Taking flight! 8th grade students in Mr. Fess’ Northstars STEM class have been working hard designing their own airplanes online and constructing them out of balsa wood. Students competed against one another both in an on-line simulator and in real life!        

Congratulations to Lincoln Park Academy’s Jonathan Geraghty. Jonathan won his second gold medal at this year’s FHSAA State Dive meet November 17th.  This was the first time since 1955-56 that a Treasure Coast diver has won back-to-back gold medals.

Forest Grove Middle School is excited to share that the Forest Grove SUPERIOR Chorus BROUGHT IT for a third time at the Holiday Music Festival in Universal Studios on Friday! They won 1st Place for Middle School Choir then took top honors as GRAND CHAMPION for Middle School Vocal Performance overall! What a great day! Please join us at our WINTER CONCERT on Thursday at Ft. Pierce Central High School at 6:30 p.m. to see this dynamic choir in action!  

Northport Breakfast With Santa was a wonderful success. Larry Kaskey and his 7th grade Northstar students at Northport are having fun and learning about how to build a working volcano. Great hands-on lessons! The students are loving the lessons and being outside on this glorious day!  

Southport Middle School students have been working on a number of service projects this year. For their service project, the Hawks team chose to raise funds and collect donations to benefit Save the Chimps, the world’s largest privately funded chimpanzee sanctuary located in Fort Pierce. As part of the service learning project, the students have been collecting blankets, food, toys, etc. to donate to the sanctuary. Northport Principal Glenn Rustay gave our Northport Media Center Christmas decorations an “A” Grade after the Student of the Month celebration. HATS OFF to Mr. Rustay for topping off our “It’s A Hallmark Christmas @NP.” Everything we do at Northport is with our children and families in mind. Stop over and visit our “Hallmark Christmas @NP!”

On November 28, Mariposa Elementary had an assembly to honor men and women who have served and those who are currently serving in the United States Military.  Our students were encouraged to invite a family member or friend who is a Veteran or currently serving to attend this assembly. During the program, a group of Veterans came to speak to the students. Mr. Chad Guess had his Mariposa Marching Band Drumline put on an amazing performance.
