 Leah Scheible, a rising junior at Fort Pierce Central High School, made some waves – of the good kind — at this year’s Special Olympics 2018 USA Games held in Seattle, Washington.   As one of Florida’s 7-member swim team delegation, she took twin silvers in her individual 200 freestyle event and 4X50 freestyle relay, and she scooped a fourth-place finish in her individual 100 freestyle event. Port St. Lucie High School Principal Adrian Ocampo graciously accepted a check for $4,820 at the June School Board meeting from Garber Buick GMC — a local partner in education.  Mrs. Sheila Cash, Garber’s office administrator, presented the check as a result of the school participating in the dealership’s Drive for Education fundraising campaign. For each 2-3 minute Test Drive, Buick donated $10.00.  When the event exceeded 100 test drives, Buick doubled the donation to $20.00. Congratulations to Mosaic Digital Academy’s Elizabeth Briglia and Trevor Gill who submitted applications to the Broadcom Masters national middle school science competition! Both were selected as Broadcom MASTERS nominees! To be selected is a great honor—only the top 10% of science fair projects nationwide are selected for this opportunity. Elizabeth and Trevor will receive a t-shirt and bumper sticker, and could be named one of the Top 300 MASTERS (announced September 5th) or one of the 30 finalists (announced September 19th). Principal Ucola Barrett-Baxter received the Children’s Hero Award of the Year Award for “Time” from the Eckerd Connects Mission. The third annual awards event recognized local heroes for their dedication to investing Time, Talent, and Treasure to youth and providing them with opportunities for a second chance at a successful life. A very special congratulations to Mrs. Ucola Barrett- Baxter!  

St. Lucie West Centennial High School’s Jaynell Pittman and Kevin Smith have been selected as the Florida Interscholastic  Athletic Administrators Association’s Female and Male Sportsmanship Award winners in Class 8A-9A.

Morningside Elementary School students are charged for their trip to Washington, D.C. as the Florida Elementary School of the Year for Energy Achievement. The National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project selected Morningside Elementary as the Florida Elementary School of the Year and National Elementary School Runner-up.   NEED encourages and rewards student leadership and innovation by sponsoring a Youth Awards Program for Energy Achievement. As one year begins to close, a bright new year begins to open and SLPS administrators initiate their professional development.  District personnel gathered at Treasure Coast High School to learn, reflect, and re-energize.  Multiple sessions were offered including data, instruction, safety and security.  Team building was included in the mix in the form of an Escape Room challenge! The tone was set, and this is going to be another amazing year for St. Lucie Public Schools!        

Jamya Wiley, 2018 graduate from Lincoln Park Academy, was presented with a $1,700.00 scholarship from the Florida Dairy Farmers on June 11th in Gainesville. Jamya was one of twelve female student athletes from across the state chosen for the Academic All-State Team. Congratulations to Jamya!

Representatives from Imagine Nation recently visited Fairlawn Elementary School to bestow congratulations and present Principal Pam Holmes and staff with a special Beacon Award.   Each year, Imagine Nation recognizes top schools across the country that demonstrate stellar usage of Imagine Learning, one of the parent company’s digital language, literacy, and math programs. What a wonderful evening at Northport! Our 8th graders are leaving the nest and moving on to high school. This year has been a year of achievement and success at Northport. The accomplishments of our students have been stunning. On the final day of school, Edie Majewski, City of Port Saint Lucie Sidewalks Projects Manager, visited the school along with the news crew from channel 20. On May 17th, 2018 Treasure Coast High School AFJROTC participated in the first annual Homeless Veterans Stand Down in Fort Pierce, alongside many other organizations. They supplied items such as sleeping bags, care bags, food, boots, and many other helpful items to veterans in need. This is the first of many veterans outreach events for upcoming years, making it one of their unit goals to continue to help struggling veterans. Wonderful job to the students, teachers, support staff and parents who have encouraged, prodded and demonstrated kindergartners into a successful end of their first year of school. Northport fifth grade graduation was a first-rate event! Just when you think you can’t celebrate one more thing, those fifth graders go and make the tears come to your eyes. The NP gymnasium was packed with parents, grandparents and families that truly care about the success and achievement of their children. Students were honored for perfect attendance and for highest achievement in resource, math, reading and science. Students then performed a musical number in unison facing their parents. Delegates from the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office met with the Cobra CERT, or the Cobra Community Emergency Response Team, and provided a donation for $1,000.00 to support the group’s continued efforts. A special thank you is extended to the Sheriff and his officers for their support. Cobra CERT is an extracurricular program available to students at Fort Pierce Central High School.
