At Mariposa Elementary, Mrs. Linda Auciello’s 1st grade students Olivia Watson, Joseph Rivera, Houston Bidot-Lascala, Kierstin Maggard and Brayden Myers are creating 3-D shapes using Play-doh and toothpicks. Math centers are practiced to ensure students stay engaged and gain a variety of different learning opportunities within their classroom.

Lawnwood Elementary Faculty and Staff participated in the annual College Colors Day on August 31, 2018. Students were introduced to fun facts about various colleges and universities.

The LPA boys tennis team has been awarded the top Academic All-State Team Award for having the highest combined GPA of all schools in our classification at 3.906. Florida’s Best and Brightest Teacher Scholarship Program, established by the Florida Legislature, offers classroom teachers a monetary scholarship based on SAT or ACT scores and job performance evaluations. To qualify, a classroom teacher must have received a “highly effective” rating on their most recent performance evaluation and have scored at or above the 80th percentile on the SAT or ACT.  Beginning classroom teachers who have not been evaluated must only submit official documentation showing that their score on the SAT or ACT meets the eligibility requirements.  The amended statute indicates that a school district or charter school employee who is eligible … Read More

Port St. Lucie High School had its second game of the season at 7pm, Friday night on August 24, 2018. Our Cadets set out for the parking lots around 5pm to collect fees and welcome our guests. Our Jaguar Battalion’s JROTC Color Guard kicked off the night with the presentation of the colors commanded by Sergeant First Class Lawrence Moleon-Mathews, with Sergeant Justin Bennett as the state flag, Corporal Alex Nangle as state guard, and Sergeant Justin Locklar as national guard. St. Lucie West Centennial Eagles are proud partners in the community.  The high school’s JROTC Color Guard participated in the opening ceremonies of the Port Saint Lucie Athletic League (PSLAA) Jamboree on Saturday, August 25th. Pictured carrying the American Flag is Cadet Julian Ortiz, carrying the Navy Flag is Cadet Damien Cooper, the Left Rifleman is Cadet Alek Yatushkevech, and the Right Rifleman is Cadet Dominic Casiano.

This online course offering is designed for administrators and facilitated by Megan Green, Director of Secondary Curriculum. The online course is from Monday September 17th through Friday November 9th.

FORT PIERCE – The Susan Broom Kilmer Branch Library’s ArtSpace hosts works by Fort Pierce native Andre Barnes Sept. 1-19. Currently teaching art Samuel Gaines Academy in Fort Pierce, Barnes has worked for more than 15 years as an art instructor in the Leon and Gadsden County Public School systems. He has a degree in Fine Arts with a minor in Graphic Arts from Florida A&M University. Barnes has done illustrations for four children’s books as well as murals for schools, the city of Tallahassee and art fashions for some celebrity clients. The U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board announced that Gretchan Davenport of St. Lucie West K-8 School has been offered a Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms grant. She is one of approximately 76 U.S. citizens who will travel abroad through the program in 2018-2019. Ms. Davenport was selected by the program’s leaders on the basis of academic and professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership potential. Dr. Ravi Jitta from Tradition Family Chiropractic offered free consultations to any patient who brought school supplies to his office as donations. Dr. Jitta donated all the supplies he received to Mariposa Elementary — a generous contribution that is greatly appreciated!

On Friday, August 17th at 7 PM, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion assisted the first varsity football game of the season. The new cadets who signed up were eager to help and see what these honor guards had to offer for them. The cadets collected parking fees and donations as well as directed the guests into the parking lots. The cadets enjoyed themselves, got to know each other, and observed each other’s leadership skills shine through. On August 10, 2018, Port St. Lucie High School facilitated laptop distribution and assigned laptops to upperclassmen (10th grade and up). When students and parents entered the school, they were greeted by multiple Jaguar Battalion cadets who were ready to guide them and answer any questions they might have. Guests entered the Media center to make their payment and received schedules for the school year. Then, they were directed to the cafeteria where additional cadets assisted in handing out laptops and laptop chargers.  Cadet 1st Sergeant Elyas Cardenas is pictured at his post located in the cafeteria.    

On Wednesday August 8, 2018, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion aided the incoming freshmen at open house, the school’s first event. The cadets of JROTC helped incoming students with finding their classes and enrolled many new cadets into the program. Fifty new eager cadets were assigned that day. Cadets working this event felt encouraged to reach out to young motivated students who want to better themselves and their community. National Energy Education Development (NEED) selected Morningside Elementary as THE Florida Elementary School of the Year and National Elementary School Runner-Up. The award was based on Mrs. Mukhamedov’s 5th grade class portfolio on energy studies. The fifth-grade group was highly engaged as their studies and experiments on the science of energy led them through class activities, energy expos, and community festivals.  It was an amazing opportunity for students to showcase their knowledge about energy and share information with others to support a more energy conscious community. Leah Scheible, a rising junior at Fort Pierce Central High School, was recognized at the August SLPS Board Meeting because she made a big splash at this year’s Special Olympics 2018 USA Games held in Seattle, Washington.   As one of Florida’s 7-member swim team delegation, Leah took twin silvers in her individual 200 freestyle event and 4X50 freestyle relay, and she scooped a fourth-place finish in her individual 100 freestyle event.   Leah’s swim coach, Heather Gray, who accompanied Leah to the Board meeting, describes her as an outstanding athlete.   Leah participates in swim, track, basketball and cheerleading … Read More

Excitement was in the air as students returned to school on Monday!   Every SLPS campus is supported by a School Resource Deputy. The support of all law enforcement agencies is appreciated!   316 buses were ready to roll and transport 23,000 students safely to and from school.

The Air Force JROTC (AFJROTC ) at Treasure Coast HS recently held a Basic Training week for new Cadets.  The week focused on basic training including teamwork, drill, and marksmanship activities. Treasure Coast High School is excited to announce the arrival of Senior Aerospace Science Instructor, Colonel James Golden.  He arrives with the extensive aviation experience and education required to deliver the school’s Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) dual-enrollment classes.
