St. Lucie Public Schools students started their summer learning as they took part in the Oxbow Eco-Center’s “Wildlife Biology Bootcamp.” Students had the opportunity to learn what it takes to be a real scientist by joining in field studies alongside local biologists. Students experienced what science looks like out in nature as they explored the wildlife awaiting them in the preserve. The Oxbow Eco-Center is hosting weekly bootcamps throughout the summer ranging from Ecosystem Exploration to the Art of Puppetry.

St. Lucie Public Schools will participate in the Summer Food Service Program during the months of June and July.  Nutritionally balanced meals will be provided to all children regardless of race, color, sex, disability, age or national origin during summer vacation when school breakfasts and lunches are not available.  At open sites, all children, 18 years old and younger, are eligible for meals at no charge, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.  The programs are only approved for geographical areas of need where 50 percent or more of the children qualify for free … Read More

Students from Morningside Elementary traveled to Washington, DC for the NEED Youth Awards conference and were awarded the 2019 Elementary School of the Year at the State level and a 2019 National Finalist Award. Their project was focused on the theme of Kids Teaching Kids About Energy. While at the conference, the students enjoyed meeting students from other states, touring DC, and cruising down the Potomac River. Fort Pierce Central High School’s JROTC presented colors at the Fort Pierce Farmers Market to celebrate the upcoming 4th of July holiday. The color guard marched onto the square while the National Anthem played. Afterwards, they presented the colors.

Village Green Environmental Studies students explain their roles in maintaining our permaculture garden to special guests including Port St. Lucie Mayor Oravec.  The garden includes food-producing plants from around the world growing in a system that imitates nature and is free from pesticides and herbicides.  The school has multiple ‘farm-to-table’ experiences for students throughout the school year.

St. Lucie County’s environmental education staff from the Oxbow Eco-Center worked with St. Lucie Public Schools high school teachers during a two-day workshop this June focused on water quality and environmental education. Thank you SLCTV!

Starting Monday, June 10, 2019, St. Lucie Public Schools moves to a Monday through Thursday work week. In an awards ceremony at Indian River State College, 44 8th/9th graders were awarded life-changing 4-year scholarships through the Take Stock In Children Program. Youth Leadership St. Lucie, under the Roundtable of St. Lucie, in partnership with the City of Port St. Lucie’s F.R.R.I. (Forum on Race Relations & Inclusion) has organized a FREE event primarily for teens entitled “A.N.D.?” which stands for ”Acceptance Not Discrimination.” Please see the flyer for more information. WEST Prep Academy students and cadets visited NASA and its STEM program.  They experienced the difficulties of programing and coding a robot in order to have a robot operate on the Moon and on Mars.  The event was managed by the JROTC cadets who did a remarkable job with managing time and resources.  It was great to hear all the positive comments from NASA and the transportation driver about student participants being one of the best behaved and motivated groups they’ve had. 

On May 23 and 24, 2019, 13 Creative Arts Academy musical theatre students presented the musical comedy “Dear Edwina Jr” in the historic CAST auditorium. Presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International, the musical follows the story of Edwina Spoonapple who seeks to impress a talent agent in order to feel success comparable to the success of her siblings. Performed with spectacular lights and sound, the show was applauded by both adults and students alike.

Dorothy Hall, St. Lucie County’s School Related Employee of the Year, took to the field at the Digital Domain Stadium. She made her way to the mound and threw the first pitch to start the evening’s game. Also, Westgate student Jaden Baxter called, “Let’s play ball” at the game. Congratulations, Mrs. Hall and Jaden Baxter!!

The girls tennis team at Lincoln Park Academy recently won the All-State Academic Team Award from the FHSAA with a combined 3.912 GPA.  Congratulations to the coaches and players. At Mariposa Elementary, students in grades 2-5 joined in our 100 Mile Club® which was organized by our PE teacher, Mrs. Adriana Roberts. Whether the students ran, jogged, or walked towards their personal goals, the 100 Mile Club® inspired students of all abilities to be active in an accepting, positive, and inclusive environment. Michael Resendiz-Torres, Gabriel Barahona, Yadiel Tavarez and Jaistyn Thurston ran or walked more than 100 miles each.  This year, Mariposa Elementary students walked more than 8,000 miles.  This was a great achievement for all of the students.
