On Saturday May 23, 2019, Port St. Lucie High School JROTC Jaguar Battalion’s Color Guard Team presented the colors at the Fenn Center for the Class of 2019 Senior Graduation. Seniors were excited to graduate and start their lives outside of high school. During the color guard the Port St. Lucie High School Chorus sang the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance. PORT ST. LUCIE – Spots are filling up at the Oxbow Eco-Center’s Summer Nature Camps, but there are still some spaces left, starting with the Wildlife Biology Bootcamp, beginning June 24. Designed for students ages 10-14, the Biology Bootcamp run June 24-28 focusing on science in nature. Campers will conduct their very own wildlife field studies on the Oxbow’s 225 acres of diverse Florida habitat. Fourth and Fifth Grade students at Palm Pointe competed in a cooking challenge on Tuesday, May 14th and Thursday, May 16th.  Fifty students participated in the event and showed off their cooking skills on Tuesday, and 40 competed on Thursday.  In order to participate, students had to read the book entitled Lights, Camera, Cook.  It was a Sunshine State Reader book for 2018-19.  In addition to reading the book, they had to pass a quiz or complete a graphic organizer showing they gained comprehension of the book.  Students were placed on teams of 5-6 and had a parent volunteer who … Read More

A group of students and their parents at CA Moore Elementary participated in a nutrition education class and enjoyed a healthy cooking demonstration as part of Career Week. They learned about making a balanced, quick, and cost-effective snack which they then made. The class wrapped up by enjoying yogurt parfaits with a variety of fresh berries!  

Students from Rivers Edge Elementary School opened the May School Board Meeting with songs from the musical, Walt Disney’s The Jungle Book – Kids.    

This year, the third annual Northport Faith In Literacy Summer Reading Program is off to a great start. The First United Methodist Church of Port St. Lucie congregation collected 3,600 new and gently used books to provide students with enough books to start a stack of summer reading books in their homes. Students learned about the importance of summer reading and not letting their skills in reading slide back. They enjoyed selecting ten books each. Northport partners, Giveback2kids Inc., along with parents and families delighted in the awesome goodness of many kids during a recent celebration of children ❤. Northport’s partnership with David Gornitzky and James Monds offers proof in the pudding that we can steer children in the right direction and help them navigate a great course for their futures. The Fire Department visited students in Mrs. Richetti’s, Mrs. Licameli’s, Mr. Patterson’s, and Mrs. D’Argenio’s classes at NPK8 today. The students were able to explore the trucks and speak with the Firefighters about their job. What a great experience for all!

Special thanks to culinary arts instructor, Rachel Ellsworth and her students. They made a delightful breakfast for Teacher Appreciation Week. The Northport Culinary department is awesome. ❤

On Saturday May 4, 2019, Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion held its annual Field Day for the school year 2018- 2019. Each Company competed in several athletic events including: relay race, Jag Ball, soccer, capture the guide-on, kickball and dodge ball. Cadets were excited to show their skills against the other Companies in friendly team games. Everyone kept the games fair but competitive. Fifth graders at Village Green Environmental Studies School were thrilled to learn about and enjoy eating food grown from their very own vegetable gardens! Students at the school grew “yummy” cabbages and “delicious” sweet potatoes.

Morningside Elementary was selected as the Florida Elementary School of the Year and National Elementary Finalist for the NEED project. The students pictured (Ben Prohaska, Paul Mukhamedov, Wyatt Taylor, Luke Prohaska, Sincere Robinson, Logan McDonald, Tyler McDonald, and Ryan Ayvaz, along with advisor/5th grade teacher, Mollie Mukhamedov) will represent Morningside Elementary at the 2019 NEED Youth Conference in Washington, D.C. this June.   To find out more about the NEED Project, click on the link below. Faculty, staff, students and invited guests were witnesses to an event dubbed the CO2 Races at Port St. Lucie High School. Students in Mr. John Picchiarini’s class designed the cars using AutoCAD 2018. The designs were then 3D printed on site. Two by two, the cars were lined up at the starting line and powered along fishing lines by CO2 cartridges.

Fort Pierce Central High School JROTC cadets participated in the Wreaths Across America fundraising effort in the fall and raised over $1,100.  The dollars raised were donated to St. Lucie County’s local veterans organizations in an effort to honor the men and women who dedicated themselves to serving and protecting our country in the armed services. Immediate Past President of the Military Officers Association of America, Treasure Coast Chapter Bobbie Williams and Treasurer of the United Veterans of SLC, Inc. Ajah English, 12th grader at Lincoln Park Academy, is the recipient of the ” State of the Jobs” Scholarship in the amount of $800.  She is the only recipient from the district.  The scholarship was presented by Leslie Haviland, Director of Student Services, Keiser University; Brian Bauer, Career Source; Pete Tesch, St. Lucie Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County; and Tonya Woodworth, Career Source.
