St. Lucie West K-8 School’s third, fourth and fifth grade students learned all about potential energy, transfer of energy and kinetic energy during P.E. using balls and movement. JAWSOME JOB AND SUPER ENGAGING SHARKS!

First year art students in Ms. Douglas’s art class were challenged with creating their own “Among Us” online game character. Students combined artist styles and visuals from this popular game to produce their masterpiece. The project required students to choose an artist from an 8-poster panel and incorporate characteristics from this artist into their artwork by using enlarging techniques. The student’s final design was individualized by choosing a specific art media and using craftmanship practices.

To kick off literacy week, students at CAST shared their favorite book and explained why they enjoy reading it. The book recommendations encouraged learners to have conversations about different genres.    

Fifth Grade students in Coach McKenna and Coach Sides’ MTSS group participated in a fun and engaging coordinate graphing activity on Friday in the PE area. Students had to pick a cone and name the coordinates. Once they lifted the cones, students either found prizes or a chance to roll the exercise cube.

Science vocabulary words came to life at Allapattah Flats K-8 on January 27th! Elementary students and staff had fun and remained safe as they marched in outdoor parades. Everyone enjoyed showing off the words they learned by dressing up or sharing their display boards. We had a great time coming together to celebrate science and literacy!

Students from left to right, Leah Aquino, Noah Farley, Reynier Ridel-Torres and Tyson Young, in Mrs. Linda Auciello’s first grade class work safely in reading centers every afternoon. The students favorite is the listening center where they get to listen to a great book and then draw and write to tell about their favorite part of the story or their favorite characters.  

Media Specialist, Janet Sievers is excited to host the Mel Fisher Maritime Pop-Up Museum in the Media Center at VGESS. The topic of this year’s museum is While the World Waited-Florida and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Students in 3rd-5th grade will read and discuss the eight panels of the museum while learning new vocabulary. Accompanying PowerPoints are also provided to provide students with real news footage from the events.

5th grade students at Fairlawn Elementary honored the Highwaymen by painting iconic scenes from the Indian River. Their pictures will be displayed at the 6th Annual Highwaymen Show next month in Fort Pierce.

During the week of January 11-15th students at the Village Green Environmental Studies School participated in Kindness Week to remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Various weeklong activities included an in-school field trip of the MLK Monument in Washington D.C., historic videos about the life of MLK, songs, and read-alouds about Dr. King as well as writing and drawing activities that highlighted Dr. King and his historic I Have a Dream speech.  Student work from the week was selected and placed in the main hallway of VGESS.

Students in Mr. McNab’s 8th Grade Early American History class were challenged to create visual representations of Alexander Hamilton’s and Thomas Jefferson’s opposing viewpoints and ideas for the new country.   Students used the course textbook as well as internet resources to illustrate and describe: The Constitution, National Bank, Structure of Government, Human Nature and Economic or French Revolution. Students were encouraged to use similes or metaphors in their drawings as they created a visual of the viewpoints that connected to the theme and title.      

Mrs. Fairbrother’s class explored the differences in Prose and Plays by participating in a virtual Flip Grid Reader’s Theater lesson.  We are creating 21st Century learners at Rivers Edge Elementary!
