TCHS Medical Students Attend Virtual Presentation with Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency

Students within Mrs. Becky Loupe’s medical classes (Treasure Coast High School) participated in a guest speaker presentation with Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency, University of Miami.  This virtual event was hosted by Cynthia Hacker, the Life Alliance representative and a member of St. Lucie Public School’s Medical Program Advisory Board.                        

Students Explore the Scientific Method at Oak Hammock K-8

Elementary students in Ms. Valente’s Resource class explored the scientific method by researching the effects of gravity and air resistance on parachutes. The students were challenged with designing and creating an effective parachute model (small or large) to land on the target and stay intact. Students in Ms. Kane’s 4th grade class, were scientists for the day, as they made predictions, conducted trials to collect data, observed and reached a conclusion to determine which parachute system was effective.  

Criminal Justice Student Interns with the City of Fort Pierce

St. Lucie West Centennial High’s Criminal Justice student, Taylor Cuevas, is an Intern with the City of Fort Pierce- Code Enforcement Unit.  This internship allows her to learn and apply her training as an Accredited Legal Professional.  She states that she is gaining new knowledge and appreciates the opportunity.  Taylor plans to attend the University of Central Florida to pursue Criminal Law after high school.  Thank you to Mr. James “Jim” Nichols for offering this opportunity to his students through the Criminal Justice 4 course.

Southport Middle School Beach Clean Up

Southport Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society teamed up with Student Council members and their families for an environmental service project to help clean up St. Lucie County beaches. The “Beach Clean Up” is one of Southport’s favorite service project initiatives that students are participating in this school year. The cleanup took place at Jensen Beach.

Northport Students Shared the Love for Valentine’s Day

Northport children in Ms. Apostolico’s 3rd grade class and Ms. Fox’s Kindergarten class shared Valentine’s with each other over TEAMS! Students need to feel connected and loved. What better way than to meet with your buddy and share kind words with them! Happy Valentine’s Day!

Aerospace Grad Lands Job Working With Drones

Jacob Kendrick, 2020 St Lucie Public Schools and Fort Pierce Central High Aerospace Institute graduate, landed a job with a drone contractor for FPL.  In March 2020, while a senior at Central, Jacob received his Drone Pilot’s License.  Now, he travels around Florida inspecting FPL power lines with drones.  He is pictured working in Bunnell, FL inspecting a 37-mile-long stretch.  Jacob is also pursuing his bachelor’s Degree with IRSC.  Go Cobras!  Level up CTE!  

Forest Grove MOA Prep Students Continue Field Studies

On January 30, 2021, current 8th grade MOA Prep students joined together with 9th grade MOA (all former Forest Grove MOA students) in collecting data for ORCA (Ocean Research and Conservation Association, Inc.). The students continue to participate in this field study by collecting physical, chemical and biological data. This data will be used for a long term, quarterly study on the health of the Indian river Lagoon. Oak Hammock K-8 Sponsors A Chef Boyardee Food Drive to Support Local Food Pantry

Creating social awareness and helping underprivileged individuals and families in need are the things Oak Hammock K-8 students are learning as they sponsor their annual food drive for Grace Packs. Students from Mr. Sparacio’s 7th Grade Civics class are understanding the importance of giving back to the community by preparing the collections boxes to be placed throughout the school and classrooms for the Chef Boyardee themed food drive. Criminal Justice Virtual Advisory Board

Criminal Justice Academy Educators from St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) participated in a virtual advisory board meeting.  Board members represented: Indian River State College, Keiser University, St. Lucie County Human Resources, St. Lucie County Emergency Operations Center, St. Lucie Sheriff’s Office, SLPS Criminal Justice Educators, and Career and Technical Education department.

Pharmacy Technician Virtual Advisory Board

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy: The WEST Prep Magnet’s Pharmacy Technician Educators (Julie-Anne JnPaul and Bailey Renick) participated in a virtual advisory board meeting.  This included representatives from Indian River State College, University of Florida, Crosstown Pharmacy, Career & Technical Education Department, and Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency.

SLCREA President Presents Books to CA Moore Elementary

The St. Lucie County Retired Educator’s Association unit President, Harry Belafonte Williams, presented a quantity of books to CA Moore Elementary School.  Accepting on behalf of the school are Ms. Latricia Stubbs-James (Principal) and Ms. Kennedy (Assistant Principal).  The photo was taken by Mr. Barriner (Assistant Principal).  Special thanks to Ms. Nancy Spires for spearheading the book collection.

Mrs. Jennings’ Kindergarten Class Learns All About Antonyms

Mrs. Jennings’ Kindergarten class aims for fun with antonyms! Students learned about “opposites” through an engaging lesson on Nearpod. Students incorporated Conversation Hearts and other environmental print to discuss words that means the same, and words that mean the opposite.  

Mrs. Brehm’s 6th Grade AMP Class Has Fun with Fruit Loops

Mrs. Brehm’s 5th grade students are completing 6th Grade Advanced Math Placement work. In this new unit, students explored ratios and proportions through Fruit Loop fun, connecting it to prior units on fractions. Students in AMP love the self-discovery process and Project-Based Learning throughout the year!  

SLWK8 First Graders Learn About Force and Motion

Last week at St. Lucie West K-8 School, First grade students in Ms. Merhi’s MySchool Virtual class and Ms. Wicburg’s brick and mortar class, enjoyed learning about force and motion and applied that knowledge by creating a real-world, simple machine project and sharing with their peers. GirlsWhoGame@Samuel Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies

January 28th, was the culminating celebration for the GirlsWhoGame clubs and the completion of their January competition. Samuel S. Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies is the only school participating from Florida and one of only thirty schools participating in the GirlsWhoGame clubs across North America. GWG clubs are sponsored, mentored, and guided by Dell Technologies, Microsoft, and Intel for the purpose of encouraging young girls into the field of STEM.

Weatherbee Celebrates Literacy
