Garden of Shadows Cobra Nation is beaming with pride for our Band Director Joshua Daniels and our Marching Cobras being honored as the GRAND CHAMPIONS of the 2023 42nd Annual Crown Jewel Marching Band Competition! All together our students brought home the Sheila Knight Sammon’s Memorial Award for Best Overall Band in Show. Culinary Cobras Participate in Top Tier Event! The Fort Pierce Central High School Culinary Department’s advanced class contributed significantly to the fundraising event at Hutchinson Shores Resort and Spa in Jensen Beach on October 19, 2023. This event was an initiative sponsored by the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association Treasure Coast Chapter to raise money for high school scholarships across the Treasure Coast. Mrs. Taufa’s Geometry Class just completed a unit of study on Transformations. They learned that a transformation is a manipulation of a geometric shape or formula that maps the shape or formula from its preimage, or original position, to its image, or after-transformation position. Mosaic Owls took this knowledge into Virtual Reality to solve a real-world problem. Our Real-World Problem: Most of us don’t think about where the food we eat actually comes from. Fifth-grade students conducted a science experiment to determine the most effective adaptation of insulation for animals in the Arctic. They compared human skin, aluminum foil (fish scales), marbles (turtle shells), and Crisco (blubber) by placing a hand inside a bag filled with an insulator and then into buckets of icy cold water. After making observations through repeated trials, the students concluded that blubber was the most effective adaptation for warmth, with aluminum foil coming in second place!

After learning about Frida Kahlo, students designed and created their own paintbrushes, ran multiple tests, and made improvements where needed. They also created a self-portrait and put their paintbrushes to use to color parts of their portrait.

White City Elementary third-grade students have been very busy; Mrs. Reid’s and Pizzarello’s math classes were fully engrossed in learning to demonstrate geometric concepts through body signals. Mrs. Sharpe’s class is learning about plant absorption through the celery experiment. Ms. Thompson’s class is busy editing tasks using their newly acquired grammar and writing skills.  Ms. Drawdy’s class proudly shows off their trophy for having the highest proficiency rate on their ELA unit assessment.

  The SLW Centennial High School’s Navy JROTC “Black Talon” Company’s Academic Team Traveled to Cooper City, Florida, on Saturday, October 14th, 2023 to participate in the Cooper City Brain Brawl hosted by the Cooper City High School’s NJROTC. The Academic Team competed with two Teams, Team Alpha and Team Bravo, against 15 others teams from all over the State of Florida. Fort Pierce Central’s Sunshine Committee, administrative team, ELL & ESOL team, and Culinary Department partnered to celebrate Hispanic Heritage in a big way at FPC! Faculty and staff were welcomed to a uniquely themed luncheon featuring traditional Latin foods and some sweet treats too. Decorations lined the walls of pathways weaving through the auditorium proudly displaying flags, authentic attire, and cultural iconography. FPC is a family representing so many vibrant areas from around the world, all coming together to support each student and colleague, every day. The Cobra way is Once a Cobra, Always a Cobra!

Big Apple Pizza on Bayshore Blvd was filled as students and parents of Oak Hammock K8 School participated in the Read to Succeed Family Give Back Night. Bookman greeted the students and gave them a free book and reading log to take home. This was a fun-filled night in which students Leveled Up Learning! Leveled up Reading Success! A great time was had by all who participated.
