On April 10, 2019 Career Source Research Center hosted the 4th Annual Treasure Coast Homeless Veteran Stand down. The Stand Down brings together government agencies, housing providers, nonprofit agencies, and local businesses to connect homeless veterans with permanent and supportive housing, intensive case management, benefits eligibility screening, employment, legal assistance, and mental health services. Veterans are provided with basic needs, such as food, shelter, clothing, hygiene kits, shoes and blankets. The Adobe Advisory Board met April 3, 2019, focusing on St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) teachers whose students earn the Adobe Suite Industry Certifications in Flash/Animate, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign, PremierePro and Illustrator. The Allied Health Advisory Board met in early April at Fort Pierce Central High School in Samantha Jackson’s Health Science classroom. Lei’Nitia Robinson, Program Specialist for Career and Tech Ed (CTE), brought together Health Science teachers from across St. Lucie Public Schools and representatives from local partners including: ABC Medical, Keiser University Admissions Department, Keiser Sports Medicine and Nursing Programs, Indian River State College Nursing and Health Science Department, and Johnson and Wales University Admissions Department. Dr. Donna Mills, SLPS School Board Member, was honored by the Chamber of Commerce as April’s Woman of the Month. Dr. Mills was introduced by her daughter, United States District Court Judge Shaniek Maynard – a past recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Month Award. This made for a unique pairing for the mother and daughter team to both hold the Chamber’s “Woman of the Month” distinction. Every registered voter in St. Lucie County will receive a postage paid mail-in ballot on or about April 3rd. This is a very important referendum to raise teacher pay, keep a school resource officer on every campus, and enhance mental health services for our children. A Citizens Advisory Committee will have oversight to guarantee every dollar goes where it is intended. Please cast your ballot and make your voice heard. Return your ballot on or before April 23 in the postage-paid envelope.

The PSLHS Jaggernauts ranked 48th out of 64 teams at the First Robotics Competition in West Palm Beach, including international teams. The students learned the value in collaboration, and they will keep building from it! Prior to their arrival, their robot worked at 70% of its attainable project. Combined with the selfless dedication of other teams, they assisted in getting the robot to 100% of the envisioned robot. Cheers to the future engineers of PSLHS!

PSLHS students have successfully managed a kiosk at the St. Lucie County Administration Office for two years.
