Join Superintendent E. Wayne Gent and the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office for Town Hall Meetings scheduled at high schools around the district.  The purpose of these meetings is to inform the public about the referendum scheduled for mail-in vote on April 3, 2019.  Superintendent Gent will share a brief presentation and afterwards the floor will be open to the public for questions.

Join us for the 2nd Annual Student Culinary Cook-Off, a collaboration of Child Nutrition Services and the Career and Technical Education Culinary Arts Program.  The purpose of the event is for our student chefs in the Middle School and High School Culinary Arts Program to create enticing entrees that their peers would enjoy while following the USDA guidelines for the National School Lunch Program.  The winning entrée will be placed on the menu for the 2019-2020 school year. On various Thursday and Friday nights from January to May, parks in local neighborhoods will host FREE outdoor movies featuring today’s blockbusters and classic family favorites. Movies in the Fort gives residents in all parts of the city an opportunity to engage with their neighbors and community. Fort Pierce is committed to increasing access to family-friendly cultural opportunities, and this new movie series is a perfect example of this work. All movies begin at dusk. Please see the attached flier for the annual Kickin’ It 5K Run/Walk to benefit the Andrew Schmeer Foundation. The Andrew Schmeer Foundation honors the memory of Andrew Schmeer who, on September 8, 2014, was tragically killed in a car accident. Funds raised help to recognize well-rounded students along the Treasure Coast by providing college scholarships for those in need. We also raise funds for animal rescues as well as children’s charities. Proceeds from this event will benefit our scholarship program and families in need. Andrew Flier PDF

St. Lucie Public Schools Criminal Justice students from Fort Pierce Westwood High School, Fort Pierce Central High School, St. Lucie West Centennial High School, and Treasure Coast High School were invited to Keiser University.  Students were afforded the opportunity to partake in guided tours, hands-on demonstrations, and an informational session on college scholarships and planning.  Thank you Keiser University for providing this experience to our students!

Students from Fort Pierce Westwood High School, Performance Based Academy, and Treasure Coast High School attended a Civil Discourse and Teen Decision Making session at the Federal Courthouse.  U.S. Magistrate Judge Maynard and U.S. District Court Judge Rosenberg invited the students to this unique opportunity to have a Federal Courtroom tour and simulation of a civil case.  The students enjoyed this special experience!

Parents of high school students are often concerned about the cost of college. Dual Enrollment at Indian River State College (IRSC) provides an opportunity for high school students to begin work on their college degree for free while finishing high school, saving time and thousands of dollars in college tuition. Courses such as College Algebra and English Composition, which cost approximately $600 at a state university can be completed with no tuition charge. Courses are offered at convenient times and weighted the same as Honors, Advanced Placement, Advanced International Certificate of Education and International Baccalaureate courses. The Career and Technical Education (CTE) department collaborated with the Economic Development Council, Treasure Coast Manufacturer’s Association, and Treasure Coast Builder’s Association to host the School Counselor Bus Tour.  The bus tours included CTE teachers, guidance counselors, and graduation coaches from our high schools, who toured various businesses in our county including: Ross Mixing, Dragonfly Graphics, St. Lucie Battery and Tire, Radical Cosmetics, and Premier Fabricators.  This event creates awareness of the employment opportunities available to our students and graduating seniors, as we work to close the skills gap.
