St. Lucie Public Schools Superintendent E. Wayne Gent and School Board members thank St. Lucie County voters and community members for supporting the education referendum with a 66% vote. “The record number of returned ballots and support from our community speaks volumes to the value placed on a quality public school education system. The generous members of Fort Pierce Elks #1520 have done it again! Through their focused efforts on supporting students in need, they have donated 150 crock pots which can be used to prepare hot and nourishing meals regardless of the location or mobility status of students and their families. The Elks #1520 also support weekend food backpack programs, school clothing drives, and school supply donations. St. Lucie Public Schools greatly appreciates the outpouring of support from this benevolent organization.
Friends, families, businesses, and organizations came together on Saturday, April 27th for a day of fun, food, festivities, and demonstrations at the 5th Annual Safety Fest held at the Digital Domain Stadium in Port St. Lucie. The Ft. Pierce Central High School JROTC Color Guard and St. Lucie West Centennial High School Band opened the event by presenting the Colors and playing the National Anthem. St. Lucie Public Schools was represented by Transportation, FDLRS, Media Services, Magnet School Programs, and General Programs of Study.
Culinary Arts students from Port St. Lucie High School, Northport K-8, and St. Lucie West Centennial High School hosted three booths at the annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Taste of St. Lucie fundraiser. Port St. Lucie High’s Jaguar Culinary Team sautéed and served Lucky 7 Wontons with Asian Slaw and Gator Loupgaroo with Boom-Boom Sauce. Delicious! St. Lucie West K-8 students served their homemade “Shark Bites” — a combination of dark chocolate cake, chocolate cream, dark chocolate, and whipped cream. Yummy! Tower Gardens are a vertical, aeroponic growing system, compact in design, and contain a closed-loop technology system. This technology allows you to grow up to 20 vegetables, herbs, fruits, and flowers in less than three square feet – indoors or outdoors. Because this system allows you to grow plants indoors using special grow lights, with no dirt, we have incorporated hands-on learning into our curriculum in collaboration with Child Nutrition Services and the ESE Department. Congratulations to Fort Pierce Central High School Senior Laura Haggerty! Laura was honored on Senior Day for her academic and athletic accomplishments. With 4 Years Varsity Soccer and 3 Years Varsity Tennis, Laura will graduate this May from FPCHS with a 5.58 weighted GPA, and 3.98 unweighted GPA. She will also graduate from IRSC with her AA degree on May 2, 2019. Laura plans to attend the University of Florida in the fall to study engineering. Congrats Laura! Once a Cobra, Always a Cobra!

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office bomb disposal team on Thursday, April 18, 2019 hosted their annual Beeping Easter Egg Hunt. The event took place place at Westside Church in Fort Pierce. The Beeping Easter Egg Hunt is hosted each year for visually impaired students in the St. Lucie School District and features plastic eggs that beep, assembled by the bomb disposal team. The students and adults all have a wonderful time finding the beeping eggs!
In a competitive academic competition, local high school teams competed for top honors and individual team members vied for a seat on the prestigious Team St. Lucie – an elite six-member team that represented St. Lucie Public Schools at the 34th Annual Commissioner’s Academic Challenge. The 2nd Annual Student Culinary Cook-Off is a collaboration between Child Nutrition Services and the Career and Technical Education Culinary Arts Program. The purpose of the event is to provide student chefs with the opportunity to create and showcase enticing entrees that their peers would enjoy while following the USDA guidelines for the National School Lunch Program. This year’s champion team is St. Lucie West Centennial High School. Their winning entree, Braised BBQ Pork Flatbread, will be placed on the school lunch menu for the 2019-2020 school year.
