George Rahming Jr. was recently honored with a prestigious Florida Music Educator Service Award at the Florida Music Educators Conference in Tampa, Florida. Known for his innovative teaching methods and unwavering commitment to student success, Rahming has left a lasting impact on both his students and the educational community.
Fifth-grade students in quarter 2 who made 95-100% attendance and had zero referrals enjoyed a gourmet meal catered by Chef Tamesha Spivey and Chef Oscar.
We have some “Royal Readers” in Mrs. DaCosta’s class. These students were caught staying focused in their literacy center today. Students earned a certificate and a bracelet! Keep up the great work Royal Readers!
The SLW Centennial High School’s Navy JROTC Navy Eagles “Black Talon” Company volunteered to participate in the Port St. Lucie’s Toys for Tots program. The “Black Talon” Cadets volunteered to work on December 16th, 17th, 19th, and 20th, 2023, to assist the Toys for Tots program in providing gifts for underprivileged children in the Port Saint Lucie area. Hopefully they will allow them to have a holiday to remember. Fifth-graders at Village Green were engaged in researching matters that matter in MATTER. During this lab research/investigation led by fifth-grade teachers, Dr. Thomas and Dr. Venzen, students learned and had hands-on experience with the method of water displacement, using and understanding how to read a thermometer, along with making hypotheses and predictions. Students learned that it was possible to find the volume of irregularly shaped items, such as a rock, marble, shell, curved shaped magnet and the like. Students enjoyed their experience as a team. Culinary Arts students in Chef Roland Foerster’s classes cook and serve tasty Jamaica-Me-Crazy lunches. Students learned Jamaican cuisine recipes and cooked up entrée choices such as Stewed Oxtail, Curry Goat, Jerk Chicken, Jerk Pulled Pork served with Pigeon Peas, Butterbeans, Rice, and Johnnycakes. Delicious!
Students work cooperatively to apply real-life math skills during math class. Third-grade AMP students in Mrs. Moore’s class at Morningside Elementary used a measuring cup to create a healthy and tasty treat which was a great reward for their learning. Students were completely engaged and committed to working together to accurately read their measuring cups.
On Saturday, January 15th, 2024, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion participated in the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade. The purpose of this parade was to showcase the importance of MLK and his accomplishments. Nearly 150 cadets attended and marched at the MLK parade for 2 miles. The color guard presented the colors, cadets marched with the battalion colors, and marched with the state flags. Overall, it was a successful parade for our Jaguar Battalion.
Buggy Boo from 4H farm came to educate First Grade about the body parts of an insect, comparisons of correct names of body parts, and ask and answer question about key details in a text read aloud! Thank you Ms. Underwood.
Holiday celebrations come in many forms and are shared through many treasured traditions. The Fort Pierce Central High School Family has made celebrating together a time-honored touchpoint in our school year. The capstone event is the Poinsettia Luncheon catered by the Cobra Culinary department. Mrs. Donnelly dips her fruit skewer into the lusciously flowing chocolate fountain. Softly lit candles on crisp linens with fresh pressed and folded napkins, along with perfectly placed silverware awaited each staff member. The SLW Centennial High School’s Navy JROTC visited Central High School in Brooksville, Florida to participate in the NJROTC Area 7 “Florida” Air Rifle State Championships on Saturday, December 2nd, 2023. The Air Rifle Championships are open to participating NJROTC programs that have an active Marksmanship Program. The participants shoot at targets that are 33 feet or 10 meters away. They submit targets for the three positions that they shot in. Those positions are Prone (laying down), Standing, and Kneeling. FPC is Feeling Seasonal all Winter Long! Central’s Jazz Band set off a week of spirit week seasonal delights with tunes that drew warm smiles across friendly faces. The Cobra courtyard was a seasonal hub of all cheer and no humbugs! The SLW Centennial High School’s Navy JROTC Navy Eagles “Black Talon” Company visited the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island on a field trip from November 28th until December 1st, 2023. The field trip is based on what a “Marine Recruit” would experience. When the cadets arrive they proceed to barrack check-in and learn how to make a “rack” and store their belongings, they proceed to the Mess Hall for “chow” and learn how to eat quickly while sitting at attention. St. Lucie Public School Outboard Marine Service Program students attended the Boat Show in Stuart. Students met with employers from the local marine industry and visited boats docked at the show. Students heard about career opportunities in various areas of the marine industry as well as the increase in marine jobs in St. Lucie and Martin counties. It was a great day for the students. Big thanks to Robb Abbott at Oceanwide Electronics, Jill Marasa at Ashley Capital, and Justin Beard at Marine Industries Association of the Treasure Coast MIATC for planning this day for students.
One hundred and twenty Floresta students earned ice cream sundaes Friday for meeting the I-Ready Challenge. These students passed four lessons in reading and four lessons in math to stay sharp over Winter Break.
On Monday, January 15, 2024, St. Lucie Public Schools, along with SLPS Superintendent and Board Members, participated in Fort Pierce’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade. The theme of this year was “Dream, Believe, Achieve” and was Grand Marshaled by Dr. Keven G. Perry and Dr. Christine Taylor. Schools honored Dr. King and his dreams of equality by creating floats that showcased his principles of racial equality and nonviolent social change.
