On Thursday, November 14th, 2024, the Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion conducted our first Blood Drive of the year. A total of 35 students, teachers, and staff contributed to help save 150+ lives to support the One Blood cause. The cadets that were chosen to help One Blood were assigned different roles, such as the two cadets checking in the students to make sure they were eligible to donate, the “runners” to go out and get the students from class, and lastly, the recovery room to watch and assist whoever donated. In honor of national parent involvement month, a parent conference night was held at Lawnwood Elementary School.  Teachers, students, and parents met to analyze progress monitoring data, review academic goals, and discuss strategies for improvement.  Parents also learned how to use Skyward to track their students’ academic growth, attendance, and behavior.  It was another awesome parent involvement event.  GO LEOPARDS!    

We’re thrilled to announce that St. Lucie Public Schools has partnered with Inwater Research Group to launch Marine Marvels: Bilingual Adventures in Marine Science. This NEW program introduces 4th-grade to bilingual role models in marine science, helping them grow their awareness about marine conservation topics and expand their communication skills about scientific concepts in both English and Spanish. West Gate K8 first graders, third graders from Mrs. Jurek’s and Ms. Bowman’s class, and Mrs. Franklin’s 5th grade class, wrote to the Veterans on this past weekend’s Honor Flight to Washington DC. The amazing part of how stars aligned is that Alex Beck, a student in Mrs. Franklin’s class mentioned to her that he believed his grandfather would be on this exact flight and that he would love to surprise his grandfather with his thank you card. Such a gratitude lesson for our students in support of their service to our country.

Mosaic Digital Academy students in grades K-5 met St. Lucie’s backyard wildlife during a fun and interactive journey through the Oxbow Eco-center Preserve. Students compared local native, exotic, and invasive plants and animals, learning how they interact within our Florida ecosystems. By collecting data through hands-on exploration, students determined the status of the Oxbow Preserve’s flora and fauna as friend or foe. Solution oriented discussions gave students an opportunity to think deeply about how they can protect this fragile ecosystem they call home for the future.

On Saturday, November 11th, 2024, all of the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion’s cadets participated in the Veterans Day ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park to honor veterans who have served and continue to serve our country. Everyone gathered at 1030hrs (10:30 AM) and began the ceremony at 1100hrs (11:00 AM). The cadets gathered in the formation with their company while they learned the history and importance of Veterans Day. The cadets were honored to pay their respects to the veterans and to be part of such an important event. 

The Office of Teaching and Learning is devoted to exposing SLPS students to college and university campuses. We took 43 seniors to the University of Central Florida on November 4th, 36 seniors to the University of North Florida on October 29th, and 37 seniors to the University of South Florida on November 12th. The students were able to listen to the Admissions Department from each university and discuss admission steps/requirements as well as unique facts for each institution. Forest Grove’s annual NJHS Fall Festival was filled with fun, food, families, friends, and festivities!! So many people came out to support our Fall Festival… we have the best community members!!! A huge thank you to FGMS staff, students, and parents for working collectively to make this event a success!! Every year it gets bigger and better!!!      

Our third graders did an outstanding job with their annual Living Wax Museum. The creativity and research they put into their projects to embody Influential Americans was exceptional! Kindergarten, first and second-grade students cheered as the students made their way to the parent pick-up area. When they arrived, parents were able to drive through and cheer them on. Way to go 3rd Grade!  

In Mrs. Quiles’s vibrant 3rd grade class, math came to life with a glow-tastic area and perimeter activity! Students lit up their learning with glow lights and highlighters as they tackled real-world problems involving composite figures. With the visual models and essential formulas, students illuminated their understanding of area and perimeter, making math both fun and memorable. What a colorful journey where creativity meets critical thinking!

Congratulations to our Girls’ Volleyball A-Team and Coach Velazquez! They made it to the Top 10 Finals. They will be playing Palm Pointe at 8:30 am at Fort Pierce Central on November 16th. Come show your support Shark Nation!

Students in Ms. Dahm’s gifted 5th grade utilized the Thinking Classrooms framework to work through a performance task to help them understand algebraic reasoning. Way to get those brains working hard!  

Forest Grove Middle School’s Marine Oceanographic Academy hosted a MOA Luau at Causeway Cove Marina. When parents, community members, and educators work together it equals student success!! MOA’s annual fish fry is a great example of that success!! Thank you to everyone who came out to support our MOA program! Seeing our students enjoying the sea life they learn about every day gives us reassurance that our marine life is loved and in great hands.      

Mrs. Quiambao’s students reviewed for their unit exam through a variety of table sorts which asked the students to do a variety of skills such as identifying the historical document, a preamble scramble, the strengths and weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation, the main ideas of the content by completing an info-graph, and vocabulary matching words, terms and images.  

SKWK8 STEAM Sharks shook hands mechanically with the hands they built. Students learned about the design challenge and terminology to flex their construction muscles. They analyzed their hands, joints, and fingers and designed prototypes to accomplish two tasks. First, they had to grab an object and move it to a target, next they had to flex and extend the fingers to push an object to the target. The Wilderness Club, led by Mrs. Slappey, had its first hike of the season and it did not disappoint! The new crew got to hike the preserve and grounds surrounding along the preserve at Rivers Edge and got to observe ground doves, a pileated woodpecker, and even spotted two black racers!  They also had the chance to identify animal scat, analyze game trails, and learn their secret pack call. It was an epic hike, and they cannot wait for more adventures ahead!

Village Green’s wonderful Music Teacher, Dr. Reynolds, and our fabulous third graders put on a special Veterans Day Concert last week. Students sang and performed for their friends and families a number of patriotic songs. A huge thank you goes to the Port St. Lucie High School Color Guard, a group of JROTC cadets who perform at ceremonies and competitions, for opening the night for us! Job well done, Dr. Reynolds, VGESS third graders, and PSL HS Color Guard!
