CAST artists in Ms. Swabon’s Visual Arts class were inspired by the Australian Papunya culture and community to create their own spirit animals. Their sensational artwork was showcased at the St. Lucie County Fair and embodied the theme of, “Dream Makers -Arts, Academics, and Athletics.”

From a quiet 60-acre farm in St. Lucie County, a future MIT graduate is designing and building the next head-turning invention. Currently a student at Fort Pierce Central High School, Robert Sansone has turned his barn into a well-designed workshop. NPK-8 Media Clerk’s Artwork Selected for Display on Fixed Route Buses

Mrs. Assunta Bailey is the Media Clerk at Northport K-8, but she is also a very talented artist. Her work can be seen around the city on utility box wraps and even a little library. CAST Students Debates

Seventh-grade students in Mrs. Battle’s Language Arts class debated over driverless cars and their safety. Students read an article “Are Driverless Cars a Good Idea?” and used evidence from the article to support their stance. Students had the opportunity to make their case and defend it. Students are now using this experience to write an argumentative essay on the topic.

TCHS JROTC – The Bataan Death March

Over the two-day weekend of February 12th and 13th, Cadets at Treasure Coast High School participated in the Bataan Death March. The march was originally the forcible transfer by the Imperial Japanese Army of 60,000 – 80,000 American and Filipino prisoners of war along a 60–69-mile march. Around 5,000 to 18,000 Filipinos died and up to 500 to 650 Americans died as well. CAST Celebrates Black History Month

Sixth-grade students in Mr. Cruz’s Visual Arts class collaborated to make pieces of art honoring Black History. Students were assigned different parts of the faces and then came together to finish each portrait. They also created Kente cloth by weaving paper.

Oak Hammock K-8 is Wild About Wildlife

Oak Hammock K-8, 7th-grade students participated in the Project Citizen District Showcase. We are excited for our students in Mr. Sparacio’s Civics class for having the project “Wild About Wildlife” place in the top three projects. Students collaborated to address the concern of losing the local habitat of native animals in the surrounding community due to the alarming rate of homes and business development. Students worked together to thoroughly research the policy to address their concern, identify a solution and develop an action plan through the Project Citizen Showcase. Call To CAST Artists!

St. Lucie County’s public transportation system, Area Regional Transit (ART), announced a Call to Artists! In partnership with the St. Lucie Cultural Alliance, Area Regional Transit invited local artists to submit images of their artwork for display on the exterior of the county buses. CAST Intermediate Visual Arts students researched and created their own designs for the contest.  

Black History Month Proclamation at CAST

Ms. Edwards, eighth grade American History Teacher, had the honor of speaking at a recent school board meeting to present the Proclamation for African American History Month so that students, faculty, and staff in St. Lucie County can recognize and acknowledge African American History Month with various programs, activities, and ceremonies. Ms. Edwards was awarded St. Lucie County’s Outstanding First Year Teacher for the District last year. CAST Creates Three-Dimensional Cell Models

Sixth graders in Mrs. Alber’s and Mrs. Proctor’s science classes are learning about animal cells and the structure and function of major organelles. To help students understand this concept better, they created 3D animal cells using the collage art technique. Models help them to gain knowledge in the structures and organelles of a cell. The students compared their animal cells models to the 2D plant models they created last week.

Lawnwood Leopards Are Tech Savvy

Lawnwood Teachers are using technology to enhance instruction. Ms. Bellone uses the smartboard to help students as they use number lines to deepen their understanding of fractions.

FPC Celebrates the SOUL of Black History!

In honor of Black History Month, FPC faculty and staff shared a thoughtfully prepared Soul Food Luncheon provided by the FPC Sunshine Committee and Cobra Culinary Dept. FPC employees were invited to the Cobra Café to partake in the Soul Food Feast during both lunches. The custom menu honored rich food traditions, favorite dishes, and wonderful desserts. Excitement was in the air for the FPCHS Black History Month Celebration. Staff and students were encouraged to dress in Afrocentric attire that highlighted our B.H.M. Celebrations. Mariposa Elementary’s Media Center Gives Students a Unique Experience During Story Time

Mariposa Elementary students enjoyed having story time in the media center amongst themselves while using the app Novel Effect. The app follows along with interactive music and sound effects which makes for an extraordinary read aloud. Mason De La Haye Hendrix is seen here reading his favorite book, The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend by Dan Santat to his three friends David Sagre, June Collins, and Yalena Pastes . Mason’s friends enjoyed the magical moments listening to their friend read to them.

On February 26th, the Area 3 Regional State Qualifying Drill Meet was hosted at Port Saint Lucie High School. PSLHS JROTC competed in Male and Female Let 1 squad, Unarmed/Armed squad, Unarmed/Armed Platoon, Color Guard, Solo/Dual Exhibition, Exhibition squad, and Exhibition platoon. The top 2 teams in each event qualify for the state Drill Meet. Port Saint Lucie High School ended up qualifying in Unarmed/Armed squad, Unarmed/Armed platoon, Exhibition squad, Exhibition platoon, and Female color guard. On April 2nd, the cadets will travel to Lakeland, Florida to compete in the Florida State Drill Championships.

Lincoln Park Academy Visual Arts Visits Major Exhibition of American Impressionist Work in South Florida

Mr. McGraw’s LPA visual arts students were invited to visit the Society of the Four Arts on Palm Beach for their 2022 season exhibit, In a New Light: American Impressionism 1870–1940. Students were able to view works from major American Impressionists from the 19th and early 20th century as well as learn about the history and mission of the society. “For students to have the opportunity to see the actual pieces in person significantly impacts their understanding of how paintings are made, and this knowledge positively impacts their own work/projects in the classroom”. WEST Prep FFA Food Booth at the St. Lucie Fair

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy: The WEST Prep Magnet came out in solidarity to support the FFA/Ag students and their tremendous efforts showing their steer, swine, and small animals. St. Lucie County School Board members Debbie Hawley and Troy Ingersoll joined proud Principal Joseph Lezeau and the Admin team with several panthers in the food booth at the fairgrounds. The food booth is the largest fundraiser for the Agricultural program and it is no wonder why. The bbq served is excellent and the customer service is always stellar.

FPC Unites the Community with Blood Drive

  The Fort Pierce Central Medical Academy partnered with OneBlood and held a blood drive on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, in the Fort Pierce Central Auditorium. We collected 115 units of whole blood and performed 19 apheresis procedures for plasma and red blood cell donations. Total donations will equal 400 lives impacted by the FPC Cobra family participation in the blood drive! Thank you to OneBlood and all those who donated, organized, and participated to make this event successful. Cobras are making history and saving lives!
