Successful Attractor Night Event

St. Lucie Public Schools hosted a well-attended event for students and families interested in learning about Attractor Programs at Fort Pierce Central High School, Fort Pierce Westwood Academy: The WEST Prep, and Lincoln Park Academy. Attendees met with current students and staff from each school to gain information about their extraordinary programs.

Gaines Academy Holiday Travels

With suitcases in hand, Samuel S. Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies Kindergarten embarked on a journey around the world to learn all about the different holiday traditions in each country. With passports stamped, students read and wrote about one country each day and built their knowledge on holiday traditions celebrated everywhere!

CAST 2021 Fall Dance Performance

Talented dancers in Mrs. Murphy’s and Mrs. Curtis’ dance classes just finished their fall performances. Our outstanding dancers shined on stage as they performed Jazz, Lyrical, Hip-Hop, and African-style dance routines.

PNC Purchases Books for VPK Students

During Jumpstart’s Read for the Record event on October 28, PNC bank generously donated copies of the book “Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon” to VPK students. During the event, Mariposa students drew pictures of their dragons while PNC bank employees read virtually to students. Thank you PNC bank!

FPC Spreads Joy at the Holiday Parade!

Fort Pierce Central came out to the Annual Christmas Parade in Fort Pierce to share joy and cheer! FPC Marching Cobra Band and Key Club showed Fort Pierce that the new Christmas colors are Purple and Gold!  Over 100 Key Club members participated! Thank you to Mrs. Peschio, Ms. Nicole Hood-Child, and Mrs. Santoro for their assistance in making this year’s parade a Cobra success!

Reading is Fun for Oak Hammock K-8 Students

Students in 7th and 8th grade at Oak Hammock K-8 were surprised to receive to 3-5 books from Scholastic Books. Ms. Gallick, their support facilitator teacher, raised funds with the help of friends and family to buy the students their own books. After weeks of waiting due to supply issues (and thousands of times asking Ms. Gallick, when will the books be arriving), the students were so excited to finally receive their books in time for Thanksgiving break.

Gaines Academy Students Glowing

Mr. Nicks is back at it again with another engaging science lesson for 8th graders at Samuel S. Gaines Academy! Students investigated how temperature affects the chemical reactions happening inside a glow stick. With the lights down low and the chemical changes happening in the glow stick, students were able to see first hand how increasing the temperature of a chemical change can speed up the reaction and lowering the temperature can slow the reaction down. The only thing brighter than these glow sticks is the future of these students!

Lincoln Park Academy Graduate Wins Miss Teen USA!

Breanna Myles, a 2021 graduate of Lincoln Park Academy, represented Florida, on Saturday, November 27th in the Miss Teen USA Competition in Oklahoma. Breanna won 1st place and was crowned “Miss Teen USA!!!”  This is the first time in the history of the competition that Miss Teen Florida won the competition! Breanna graduated from Lincoln Park Academy in 2021 with her A.A. degree from Indian River State College. She is currently enrolled at Florida State University where she is majoring in Computer Science. SLWCHS Student Named Outstanding Youth Philanthropist of the Year

St. Lucie West Centennial High School sophomore,  Janelle Palmer, was selected by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Treasure Coast as the Outstanding Youth Philanthropist of the Year and was recently honored at the National Philanthropy Day event on November 18th. Janelle was selected because she consistently gives her time and talent to support the mission of Treasure Coast Hospice. She has encouraged her friends to do the same by sharing her personal story and engaging them in her efforts, resulting in volunteerism and awareness of their mission. Congratulations Janelle!

Southport Middle School Filled With Gratitude this Holiday Season

Southport Middle School has been blessed with several organizations to support our Southport Grace Pack families with a Thanksgiving box each year. A special thanks to the Port St. Lucie Ballantrae community, Holy Family Catholic Church’s Council of Catholic Women, a VERY generous parent, and various Southport staff members who provided monetary donations and food items to support our Grace Packs program. Each box was filled with items for a Thanksgiving meal, a gift card to buy a turkey or ham, and meals for the week. SLW Centennial NAVY JROTC Assist in Vietnam and Global War on Terrorism Memorial Wall Tribute

On Saturday, November 27th 2021, the SLW Centennial Navy JROTC assisted the Reverence Motorcycle Association and the Historical Society of Martin County in presenting Colors for the “Tribute to Valor” in remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defending freedom during the Vietnam War and the Global War on Terrorism. The Color Guard personnel were right rifleman Cadet Petty Officer First Class Daniel Sharpe, unit flagman Cadet Petty Officer First Class Peyton Mangine, ensign flagman Color Guard Commander Cadet Ensign Casey Scott, and left rifleman Cadet Lieutenant Commander Gregory Vetrano.

Gaines Academy Designing Ankle Orthosis

Mr. MacKenzie’s Project Lead the Way class at Samuel S Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies is working on an Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO) in PLTW class. The students are tasked with designing, building and testing a AFO as a prototype for children with Cerebral Palsy. The students are to use the materials given by the teacher to create the prototype and then present their build and how it works all while following the criteria given.  

Soroptimist of St. Lucie Adopt Chester A. Moore Classrooms

On November 19, 2021, the Soroptimist of St. Lucie provided school supplies, gift cards and other incentives to 12 Chester A. Moore teachers and their classrooms. The local Soroptimists are a part of a global network of volunteers collaborating to provide economic empowerment to women and girls by providing access to education and training. The organization believes education is the key and selected CAM for their community project. The Soroptimists recognize that teachers work tirelessly and frequently spend their own money on supplies and incentives, so they wanted to pay it forward by ensuring both students and teachers receive nurturing … Read More

Mariposa Elementary’s Publix Math Night

Mariposa Elementary families participated in a Publix Math Night.  Our amazing Math coach, Mrs. Ashle Henderson, organized the event with our partners at Publix at the Towne Center Shops. Approximately 60 families participated in this evening of fun. The parents and students really enjoyed the activities and put their math skills to the test. We appreciate Publix Supermarket at the Town Center Shops and are so glad to have such a wonderful business partner. They provided cookies and gift bags to all the students. 6th Grade Eagles at Oak Hammock K-8 Learn About Veterans for Veterans Day

Two of Oak Hammock’s K-8 6th grade teachers joined together to teach their students about Veterans Day. Mr. Sherrer, Social Studies, and Ms. Campbell, Language Arts, spent the week before Veterans Day teaching students about the importance of the holiday. Students also learned about the sacrifices members of our armed forces made to guarantee their freedoms as Americans. The students were given an opportunity to create summaries of biographies in Language Arts and expressed their new knowledge through art in Social Studies.

Youth Advisory Council Holds Inaugural Meeting

The St. Lucie Public Schools Youth Advisory Council held its inaugural meeting on November 16, 2021.  The newly established Council is a resource for St. Lucie Public Schools and its students. Its function is to discuss district-wide student concerns, provide the School Board a youth perspective on issues that affect the School District, and serve as the primary liaison between students and district administration. Each high school in St. Lucie Public School has selected 2 representatives to serve on the Council.
