St. Lucie County Partnership with Fort Pierce Westwood’s Criminal Justice Academy 911 Program Wins NACO Award

Fort Pierce Westwood’s Criminal Justice Academy was recognized by St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners during the county board meeting.  Ms. Mildred Brown and St. Lucie Public Schools was recognized for the joint effort where students go to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) as interns, guided class tours of the facility yearly, and guest speaker presentations.  This partnership enables students to earn training hours towards their industry certification.  Additionally, students completing the program and earning their 911 industry certification can apply for and become hired by St. Lucie County as Emergency Dispatchers.

PSLHS JROTC Football Color Guard 9-11

On Friday, September 11, Port St. Lucie High School JROTC Jaguar Battalion’s Color Guard presented the colors at the first football game against John Carroll High School. With COVID-19  restrictions hindering a lot of our activities, the color guard was ecstatic to finally honor our country and show respect for the victims of the 9-11 attack. Commanding the Color Guard was National Flag Bearer Cadet Command Sergeant Major Mayoliv Hernandez accompanied by Cadet Sergeant Mery Fuentes as State Flag Bearer, Cadet Sergeant First Class Robert Pollino III as right Guard, and Cadet First Sergeant Devin Callwood as left Guard.  

Oak Hammock K-8 STEAM Program Awarded Grant

Angela Flynn, Oak Hammock K-8 STEAM teacher, received a $500 grant from Aldi Smart Kid Program to fund engineering design materials, circuity and technology resources for the new STEAM program. The fourth-grade students explore the engineering design process this week by creating and designing a standing boat using only one sheet of paper, tape and scissors. Students were engaged in experimental learning by inquiry, dialogue and critical thinking.  

Northport Culinary Arts Program off to an Exciting Start!

Northport Culinary students have been studying Food Safety. Virtual student, Eric Hoffman-Harris showed his excitement for Culinary Arts with a graphic kitchen safety poster. He went above and beyond on the assignment including pictures of himself in the kitchen. Eric even had his dad drop off the poster so Ms. Savela can hang it in the culinary classroom.

Palm Pointe Recognizes Project Citizen Winners

The Project Citizen National Showcase was recently held, where students from Massachusetts to Arizona tackled problems in their community. Students from Mrs. Wright’s 3rd period Civics class from last school year earned an Exceptional rating on their project, “Water We Waiting For?” Last January, Hannah Dorval, Devin Habyan, Alexia Morgan, and Caleb Chuquillanqui represented their class at the district showcase, where they presented the class project, seeking to combat the high rate of child drownings in the state of Florida by proposing changes to public policy.  They were interviewed by multiple judges and answered questions about their proposed policy, which helped the … Read More

New Masks For Weatherbee Mariners

Selfie Time!

CAST elementary students in Ms. Swabon’s on campus and MySchool virtual visual arts classes started their school year by drawing a self-portrait through the lens of a “selfie.”  The young artists were given the option to use a template provided to them or to trace a cell phone to create an image of how they see themselves. This first project is always a great starting point for both the artist and the teacher to open conversation about the artistic experience.

Desk Fairy Visits Weatherbee

  The Desk Fairy recently visited Miss Petrie’s first grade classroom at Weatherbee and left a gift on this student’s clean and organized desk!  Way to go, Journi!

Northport Continues Annual September 11 Commemoration

Each year at Northport, our school prepares and presents a huge and unified presentation to commemorate September 11, 2001. This year, unfortunately, due to social distancing and mask wearing, our program will not be the same meeting in the media center that we have done every year. We will never forget how important it is to teach the children though. Our lessons will continue. The Northport media center is dedicated to the eight children who lost their lives on 9/11. Social Emotional Learning in Action at Morningside Elementary School

Students and teachers at Morningside Elementary School are actively engaging in Social Emotional Learning both live and virtually. Students are participating in Sanford Harmony lessons, Circles, and Meet Ups.  They have set Harmony Goals for their individual classrooms and are creating unique greetings and responses to emotions.  Blue Jays are creating safe, healing and relationship-centered environments and we are so proud of all their hard work as we begin this new school year!

Fairlawn Student Gives Back

During his distance learning challenge class, Mikhail organized a fundraiser to benefit students in Saint Lucie County.  His fundraiser ended up providing 133 laptops to students through the Education Foundation and over 1,000 meals to families through Feeding America.  He is truly an amazing individual.

CAST Kindergarten Driveway Visits

CAST Kindergarten teacher and STEAM Advocate Mrs. Rebecca Benton made some special deliveries to her brand new kindergarten students. She went door-to-door delivering goodie bags filled with some treats, an all about me poster, and “jitter glitter” to make sure there were no nerves for their very first day of school.

Northport Media Center Celebrates With “It’s All About the Kids” Theme

Thank you for the beautiful gift to our Northport K-8 School media center from our art teacher, Stephanie Ramirez. A Frida Kahlo design! We can’t wait to show the piece off to our students. Frida is an expressive artist of Mexican descent. Frida believed in open self expression and so do we. It is perfect for the theme for the media center this year…”It’s All About the Kids!” Mrs. Gruszka and Mrs. Majors are so excited to see the kids and start talking about good books. ❤

CAST MySchool Teachers Go The Extra Mile

MySchool teachers at CAST have found some amazing ways to go above and beyond for their virtual students! Mrs. Robyn Church framed pictures of each of her wonderful fourth grade students and placed them on individual desks in her classroom to help create the same warm in-person environment she’s used to. Learning Launchpad

Learning Launchpad locations are providing FREE school-day care for St. Lucie Public Schools‘ MySchool students whose families have been impacted by COVID-19. Through a partnership with St. Lucie County, the Children’s Services Council along with its network of funded afterschool program providers are offering parents a free option for their child during the school day.
