Elks Lodge Holiday Giving

On Monday, December 14th, the Elks Lodge #1520 donated 11 pallets of toys, backpacks, clothing, personal hygiene products and food to 11 schools.  The first stop of the day was at Lakewood Park Elementary School. The School District wants to thank Lenny Smallacombe and all of the other Elks volunteers for their generosity and dedication to the boys and girls of St. Lucie Public Schools.  These gifts will certainly make the holidays a little brighter for these students.   Thank you Ft. Boys & Girls Club Opens New Site

St. Lucie County Boys & Girls can soon come to the largest Club in Florida! In partnership with Westside Church in Fort Pierce, the newest BGCSLC site will access three buildings totaling nearly 55,000 square feet and 25 acres of outdoor recreational area. Criminal Justice Students Participate in Federal Court’s Teen Discourse Session

Treasure Coast High School’s Criminal Justice students from Mr. Diego Rios’ class participated in a Teen Discourse Session with Federal Judges and Attorneys.  This is a yearly event that transitioned to a virtual session this school year.  A special thank you to the following individuals making this event possible: Federal Magistrates Maynard and Brennan, U.S. Attorney Brandy Galler, and Attorney Andrew Lowenstein.

Criminal Justice Student’s Career Exploration with St. Lucie Sheriff’s Office

Criminal Justice Academy students from Treasure Coast High School (Mr. Rios’ class) and Fort Pierce Central (Mr. Wilder’s class) participated in a career exploration session with representatives from the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.  Fort Pierce Central students were able to participate virtually from their campus.  Guest speakers included Crime Scene Investigation (Bridget Blatchford), K9 (Deputy Hill), and Sherriff’s Explorer Units (Deputy Raynolds, Deputy Gomez).

Skilled Trades, Alive and Well at Port St Lucie High

Step into Bruce Gardner’s Construction Trades classroom at Port St Lucie High School and you will see and hear the action.  Students learn, practice skills, and earn industry certification in Building Construction Trades.  Carpentry, Jobsite Safety, Tools and Equipment, Measurement, Residential Electrical, Aluminum Screening, Painting, Drywall Installation and Repair, Residential Plumbing, Residential HVAC, etc. The program is a Pre-apprenticeship that leads into preferred admission into an Apprenticeship after high school graduation.  

Skilled Trades, Alive and Well at Treasure Coast High

Robotics, 3D Printing, Saws, Rulers, Measurement Calipers, CNC Machines, Drill Press, AutoCad Design, and Inventor Production, are all a buzz in Phil Depuy’s Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Lab at Treasure Coast High.  It’s a place for those who like to work with their hands, ‘tinker’, build and design. Students learn, practice skills and earn industry certification in MSSC, Inventor, and AutoCad. The program is a Preapprenticeship that leads into preferred admission into an Apprenticeship after high school graduation.

CTE Entrepreneurship Virtual Field Trip

Treasure Coast High International Business students host St Lucie West K8 8th graders for virtual field trip. Entrepreneurship is the focus topic since both classes are studying and working on Entrepreneurship Projects. Treasure Coast High Advanced Manufacturing Students Learn Virtually

Treasure Coast High Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Instructor Mr. Depuy hosted a virtual session with Ms. April Badenhop from Advanced Machine and Tool.  Via Zoom, April covered topics in advanced technology machines, precision measuring, and designing turbine blades.  Big thanks to Mr. Jerry Jacques, Treasure Coast Manufacturers Association (TCMA) for helping to coordinate this virtual learning experience for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering students.  Wow, now that’s a great partnership!  Level Up!

Treasure Coast Manufacturing Advisory Board Meets Virtually

Treasure Coast High School Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Program’s Advisory Board met the Program’s instructor, Mr. Phil Depuy and Mrs. Aliesha Seitz, CTE Director.  Treasure Coast Manufacturers Association (TCMA) President Jerry Jacques and Economic Development Council (EDC) Vice President Jill Marasa virtually connected with Mr. Depuy, Ms. Seitz and toured the upgraded lab.  Many ideas were exchanged and sessions planned to connect students with members of the Advisory Board and local manufacturing community.   Big thanks to TCMA and EDC for their continued support!  Level up!  

WEST Prep Biology Students Participate in Scientist in Every Florida School

Mrs. Merlyn Mathew partnered with Dr. Samantha Brooks, an Associate Professor and Researcher of Equine Physiology at the University of Florida, to deliver an interactive showcase of her genetics research to high school Biology students.  Dr. Brooks also shared her educational journey that led her to her eventual career path. The virtual TEAMs meeting was educational and directly aligned to content standards for the quarter. Students engaged by asking great questions which furthered their understanding of genetics and biotechnology. Gift of Reading for Oak Hammock K-8

Oak Hammock Kindergarten students and teachers were generously gifted books courtesy of MIDFLORIDA Credit Union as part of their annual Gift of Reading program. This year students were treated to a virtual read aloud of “I am a TIGER” by Karl Newson and Ross Collins. Students were truly entertained by the engaging read aloud and excited to receive a copy to enjoy endlessly! We appreciate this gift and opportunity to instill a love of literacy in our students. Southport Middle School Practices Safe Social Distancing

Southport Middle School Media Center is making good use of the generous donation of personal protection items from United Way of St. Lucie County. Our school recently received over 200 canisters of Lysol Wipes, as well as signage for social distancing and hand washing for participating in their Tools for Schools program. Our staff and students send their thanks for these essential supplies.

Port Saint Lucie Rotary Club Brings Holiday Cheer!

Many, many thanks to the Rotary Club of Port Saint Lucie Noon Club. Angela Hayle, a Rotarian and business leader from ACCH Insurance Agency, along with Northport K-5 guidance counselor, Diane Crumpton, gathered children together at Northport to offer each child a special bag of Christmas gifts. The Rotary Club usually hosts an Annual Children’s Christmas Party. This year, due to Covid, the club made a stop to the Northport Media Center. The club serves 17 SLPS and 150 SLC children at the holiday season. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to the Port Saint Lucie Rotary Noon Club. ? ❤

PSLHS JROTC Angel Tree

Every year, the Port Saint Lucie JROTC program has the privilege to work with Guardians for New Futures and Communities Connected for Kids, to help collect toys for kids during the holiday season. This year, Port Saint Lucie High School sponsored 27 kids to ensure they have a memorable and enjoyable holiday season.  

Northport Art Student Represents SLPS in Tallahassee

Northport student Chyanne Coins, 6th grader, won the district-wide visual art contest and will be representing St. Lucie School District at the state level “The Art in the Capitol” Competition, where 74 school districts will display their top winners. Wonderful job Chyanne and Mrs. Ramirez! ❤ Thank you to Mr. Gent, Dr. Perry and Mrs. Martin for coming to Northport to support the Arts in Education and our awesome student.  

Wheels and Motors Car Show Color Guard

On Saturday, December 5th, the Port St. Lucie HS JROTC Jaguar Battalion traveled to Keiser University to present the colors for the Wheels and Motors Car Show. The car show featured many different cars such as Corvettes and Maseratis, as well as classics such as Packards and a McLaren. Commanding the presentation of the colors was Cadet Command Sergeant Major Mayoliv Hernandez, followed by Cadet First Class Mery Fuentes as state flag bearer, Cadet First Sergeant Devin Callwood as right guard, and Cadet Second Lieutenant Catherine Cabellero as left guard. Music with Mr. Evans at Mariposa Elementary

Mariposa Elementary music students have been participating in creative musical activities and competitive games that help promote music literacy. For the month of November, students have been focused on developing their rhythm skills. From keeping a steady beat in kindergarten to freestyling over rap beats in fifth grade, students are mastering how sound works together with time to create music. Mr. Evans, Mariposa’s new music teacher, incorporates a fall theme in each lesson to increase student engagement and enjoyment.
