Northport Deans Promote “Step Up America!”

Northport Deans Georgia Stone and Billy Hicks recently stepped into Susan Matteson’s eighth grade class and presented a solid lesson pertaining to personal security. The lesson was a group project where students were given information from the American Security Council Foundation website about personal security and the UN Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Each group was given an article to read. Students then created a word cloud about the main idea of their topic and the important words about each topic. In support of St. Lucie Public Schools’ (SLPS) continuing effort to recruit and retain experienced teachers, SLPS and the St. Lucie Classroom Teachers’ Association/Classified Unit have agreed to remove contract language that limits the years of experience awarded to returning DROP retirees. Previously, returning DROP retirees had a cap of five years on the experience for which they could receive credit. New language removes the cap and now qualified returning retirees can receive credit for all of their verified years of experience.  Current employees who returned from DROP will be credited with all verified years of experience beginning February 1, … Read More

The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion showed their pride at the annual Martin Luther King, Junior Day Parade in Fort Pierce.  Marching in this parade is a tremendous honor and privilege for Port St. Lucie High. Graduation Rates released by the Florida DOE show a historic and unprecedented measure of success for St. Lucie Public Schools. St. Lucie Public Schools obtained a Math/Science Partnership (MSP) grant focused on increasing science content knowledge. This grant provided twenty-five teachers with the opportunity to participate in the U-Futures program. Nine of these teachers continued, and through the grant along with the generosity of the University of Florida, they completed their Master of Arts in Education (MAE) in Science Education free of charge.
