Gaines Academy 7th grade students and staff welcomed Mr. Raphael Sanchez, the Executive Director of Human Resource for the St. Lucie Public Schools, as a guest speaker in the Speakers Bureau series.  Mr. Sanchez emphasized lessons and rules he established for himself while growing up. Fort Pierce Westwood High School hosted its very own Mr. Joseph Lezeau as the guest speaker for the Speakers Bureau Series. Mr. Lezeau spoke about the basic principles that were taught to him by his father. These are two very important resources to have: information and knowledge.      St. Lucie Public Schools unites with other communities across the nation on Monday, October 17 to spotlight afterschool programs and activities. During this rally for program awareness, afterschool programs and activities throughout the county are expected to participate in Lights On Afterschool.      Two locations are earmarked for the rally in St. Lucie County according to organizers Terrance Platt and Kimberly Roberts.  The Fenn Center in Fort Pierce and the Port St. Lucie Community Center in Port St. Lucie will open their doors from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM in order for parents, students, and community members to become … Read More

Thanks to the generous donation of an alumni, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguars have a lot to cheer about as homecoming week festivities kick off on Monday, October 10.    A supersize spirit mural featuring the Jaguar mascot in an 18’ x 144.5’ display will send a roar of school pride across the campus in a ceremonial unveiling on October 14 at 6:55 pm before the homecoming game crowd. Antravious Soleyn, a recent graduate from Fort Pierce Central High School and member of the poetry club, was one of the honored guests at a recent Speakers Bureau event at Dale Cassens Educational Complex.  His positive command of the language and poetic verse captivated students as he recited a poem that he wrote. Follow St. Lucie County WeatherSTEM at Southport Middle School for up-to-date local weather. The Southport Middle School WeatherSTEM Unit is an integration of weather sensors that collects real-time atmospheric data and is available on the stlucie.weatherstem.com/spm  website or mobile app. The WeatherSTEM unit was donated to Southport through a grant by Meteorologist Edward Mansouri, CEO of Ucompass in Tallahassee. WeatherSTEM provides weather data to anyone with Internet access. The WeatherSTEM unit features updated radar, a cloud camera that takes a snapshot once per minute, as well as wind and tide information. Lakewood Park Elementary hosted a Back to School Bash at Skatetown USA on Tuesday, October 4th.  Thank you to all of the families that came out and supported the PTO.

Our MSE Blue Jays glowed with joy and pride at this year’s BBBS Bowl for Kids’ Sake event on Saturday, September 24th at Superplay USA!  Fun was had by all at this neon/glow in the dark themed event. Our team raised $636.62 for the cause!  

Mariposa Elementary students in Mrs. Michelle Smith’s 1st grade class took silly pictures with their new table team mates as a way to get to know each other! Students enjoyed the photo booth and laughed through all the pictures as they asked “getting to know you” questions to their new friends! Table team mates Lucia Costello, Zykeria Reynolds, Malaki McAdams, Kacen Maggard, and Michael Soto are enjoying getting to know one another in this picture.

Students at Floresta participated in STEAM Day. The students had to work in groups to use all recycled materials to build a car, and the wheels had to roll!

Bayshore Elementary School participated in Dads Take Your Child to School Day on Wednesday, September 28.  Dads, stepdads, grandfathers, uncles, and many other male role models  were welcomed into the school’s media center.  All of these important role models made a commitment to remain actively involved in their children’s education.  They also learned about ways to volunteer while enjoying a light breakfast.  Bayshore thanks the more than 300 male role models who attended! Mrs. Eibl and Mrs. Therrien’s class built derby cars and raced them down the hallway in their latest enrichment STEAM activity. The Race Is On At MSE!  

Morningside Elementary’s fifth grade student-led conferences received high marks on evaluation forms.  Write-in comments included feedback such as “very informative” and “it was great.”  During the 30-minute conference, parents and students were shown how to access the St. Lucie Public Schools website; the MSE website; the Skyward site; and lastly, the 5th grade 2017 t-shirt, “Think Outside the Box,” was revealed. Then students shared their work, scores on Reading Counts, goals, and interactive notebooks with their parents and grandparents.  Finally, all the students and parents signed garden pots as our 2017 contribution to the 5th grade garden.
