Our annual Black History Month celebration transformed the Fort Pierce Central auditorium into a vibrant showcase of culture and achievement this past Friday, welcoming over 800 attendees including students, faculty, staff, district personnel, board members, and distinguished guests. Weatherbee second graders showcase their talents! Recently, the whole grade participated in and voted for the best entries in their coloring contest honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. With just over 100 second graders at Weatherbee Elementary, each student colored a page for the competition. All of the six second-grade classes then voted on a winner from each class. Administration even voted for the best overall in second-grade! Mrs. Portee’s jaw-some fifth-grade classes were hard at work. The students were focused on estimating mathematical sums and differences. These magnificent mathematicians worked together collaboratively by using fraction strips to determine equivalent fractions. Third graders in Mrs. Angle’s homeroom class at Village Green Environmental Studies enjoyed a “camp out” during class last week. They were celebrating their accumulation of 40 class cash for demonstrating Manatee Pride over the past few weeks and being exemplary role models to the younger students at Village Green. Palm Pointe Kindergarten students had an exciting in-house field trip thanks to The Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast’s Pirate STEM program. Each year the Palm Pointe Elementary Physical Education Department runs a yearly fund-raising campaign for the American Heart Association.  The Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser raised $5,200 this year.  Students have been learning healthy heart habits and how the heart works.  The P.E. The Girls Basketball team of St. Lucie West Centennial hosted St. Cloud High School in their Regional Semifinal game. The team emerged victorious, advancing to the Regional Final.
